Hey everyone,
After wanting a lego train since I was 10, my girlfriend bought me a Horizon Express for my birthday last month, and since then I've bought another HE, and the current Cargo train model to fuel my developing addiction!
I've also been playing with the Lego Digital Designer, and created a model of the Glasgow Subway trains. These trains are quite small (think the track gauge is only 4 foot or something), and I quite like their compact look, so I though I'd try digitally create one!
This is my second or third major revision to this model, and I'm still not happy with how it has come out, but it's a lot closer to how I would like. I've not followed any real scale, other than keeping it in proportion to itself, and I've had to cheat and make it 8 wide, and an extra 3 long to fit my own scale. It's a bit "lumpy". When I grew out of lego, they only just started using all these curved pieces, so I'm still getting the hang of putting all these curves together. I'd love some feedback on what I could do to improve things though, what parts I could use etc. The back and the front of it aren't great, and as it stands, it couldn't run on real track with curves. I may move the front forward a stud or two, and take that length off the back, to allow the front bogie to turn.
I've also not applied much of a colour scheme. The current Subway colours are used, but not the livery, as the diagonal lines it uses wouldn't come out very well right now.
I'd love to make the actual height of the model smaller, make the body sit a bit more over the wheels, but I'm not sure that would really work with current track curvature?
I'll keep toying with this model, then build a trailer car. The subway in Glasgow is made up of either 3 driver cars, or driver trailer driver, so one more design would cover all rolling stock!
