Hi,
I'm Perza (Pertti) from Jyväskylä, central-Finland. I was born 1972 and have two kids; a boy, born 2002 and a girl, born 2006.
As most of us - I think - I used to play with legos when I was a child. Then eventually I grow up and stopped playing, although I was still every now and the trying to build up a train yard. But at that time (mid -80s) those were really expensive, at least here in Finland. So the legos were left alone for quite some time, but every now and then I drooled over at the new sets in stores.
Finally my son was old enough, so I could buy him some. As most we started with dublos and gept on going. We've gone through city, creator, bionicle, Star Wars, ninjago, chima, technic, PotC, indy, Harry Potter, the Lone Ranger, monster fighters, mindstorms, the lego movie, hero factory, power miners and atlantis. My daughter has been focusing on lego friends .
During the past few years I've been getting more and more envolved with legos; mostly mindstorms and technic. Due to the fact that I'm an engineer (of computer science though) I've been more focused on how things work. I've build some "experiments" and been reading "The Unofficial Lego Technic Bulider's Guide", by Pawet 'Sariel' Kmiec, while my son has been building the guns from "Lego Heavy Weapons", by Jack Streat.
I've been surfing the net for ideas and MOCs by other people in order to be able to build the model I'd like to build. I've been ordering parts needed from bricklinks and I was finally able to build a functioning poc of my idea. The idea is to build a tank. I know there are several around the net, but so far I have not been able to find one quite like my idea. We'll see if it ever actually sees the light of day :)
There are several rules for my design: 1) only lego parts 2) remote control of all functions 3) firing mechanism with minimum of five rounds 4) automatic reload 5) mobility on most surfaces 6) getting over simple obstacles 7) track pulling 8) low and hi speed 9) barrel angel adjustment 10) gun tower 360 rotation.
In addition it should resemble a tank (even remotely ). This far I've been able to accomplish 10 out of 10 , but there is always room for improvement and I haven't even stated on the casing yet ... have some thoughts though.
I think that's about me in a lego nut shell . Could some one point me into a right forum, please, so I can post my pick of the poc and get some feedback and ideas how to improve it.
Question for Moderators: In the intro 1:st there was a note that this is not a photo db so I should use only links, but later on on the same document, there was an advice to prefer pics over links 'cause it's easier that way. Which is it?
