I'm talking about http://www.bricklink....asp?P=55206c03 . It was working fine until my son dropped it . . . on carpet. It still makes the klaxon sound, but quite faint. I replaced the batteries, but that's not made any difference; so then, I took it apart. Besides the electronics, the sound comes from a cone speaker and a membrane. As far as I can tell, the brick itself doesn't function as a sound board or anything, it's just the speaker and the membrane that amplify the klaxon sound to playable levels.
My question is, how does this work? I managed to pop the membrane in just right, and for a very short split second it was loud, but then it went back to being faint and broken. I can't figure out the sound engineering principles behind this, so I have no confidence that I can repair this brick.
Does anyone have any experience, or want to speculate with me on ways to troubleshoot and fix this thing? I'd hate to toss it out just because my engineering skill isn't high enough.
