I know what it is, I've already checked the first page of the thread, as I said. Point is, I didn't know if it counted as the second UCS of the year 2013, which means I won't have to check on that matter till March-April 2014, or if it was given a 10XXX set number in order to justify its size. Guess it actually meant this years's second set is a diorama rather than a ship. Oh, well, time to hybernate till next spring, when "official" rumors of the new UCS will surface. Sigh.
-
Just a quick, open question: judging from the first page, with all the sets displayed, is it pretty much safe to assume that this year's second UCS will be the Ewok village? I've lost touch with the EB community for a few months, and since I won't be able to check every day for news, it would help a lot knowing I should not expect anything else on that front until the next year.

My 2 cents: 1) 200 euros for 1500 pieces? Here, Lego, here, let me pat your head. (I will probably buy it, though, since I have quite a feq points to redeem in their shop). 2) I fear that the longer "axis" wing will bend in a matter of months. Even in the video itself it was clearly bent, and I don't believe they've had that precise model hanging around for a couple of years just waiting to shoot the video. (Check at 1:16 for the full bending-parts-glory).

Thank God there are none. I'm not willing to pay a hundred or more extra bucks just for some ultra-super-mega-limited-exclusive-onlyfortoday-anniversary-jubilee minifigs that have nothing to do with the set. It's an UCS, for God's sake, let the minifigs swamp the other sets as they are already doing, with the most obscure and forgotten characters being thrown in just to inflate the price.

Any info about the B-Wing? I remember someone recently said we would get some tidbits of information soon enough, but I must admit I have no idea of the line-up of forthcoming LEGO/toy events where it could be seen.
-
My suggestion: the Death Star's Core with the Millennium Falcon and the other ships flying towards it, as in the final battle of ROTJ.
-
Random question about the new sets: I see that they are going to release the Fury, on of The Old Republic's iconic ships. Do they intend to test the ground before a future full release of models about the game, or it's just a one-time-only set that somehow was thrown among the usual waves?

The fact that you can remove it doesn't mean it doesn't happen at all :)

Well, since you have already decided the battle will be between those two sets, I'll highlight their pros and cons (I own them both). LAMBDA SHUTTLE: -)extremely well proportioned -)movable wings and a well engineered internal mechanism -)huge on all 3 dimensions, which means you will have to find a box-shaped place where to fit it (while the Executor is only long). EXECUTOR: -)quite literally BIG. Find beforehand a place where you will display it, trust me on this. -)repetitive, but the greater amount of pieces if compared with the Lambda is very noticeable. Good if you want to feel like a God after the 4000th piece is set in its right place. -)the center holds an anoying small set made for minifigures. After a while you won't notice anymore the slight bump its makes on the mdoel, but at first you'll look at it half the time. Also, if (like me) you're thinking of displaying the set without any means of shielding it from dust, remember that the Executor is a pain in the megablocks to clean, unlike the Lambda. However, dust on grey is infinitely less noticeable than on the Lambda's white; also, remember that white pieces tend to gain a yellowish tint after some years, while the grey ones don't.

Incredibly enough, I don't think I've never seen someone looking so desperate to please the public with a UCS. Throughout the whole video I felt as if the two designers were screaming "please tell me you will buy it! look, we managed to fit as many gimmicks as possible into it! OOOOOh, shiny!". I was looking forward to this set, but they really scared me away.

[OT] If I remember correctly, the developers asked a member of eurobricks (cavegod or others, one of the bigger MOCers anyway) to copy the outstanding mechanism he had come up with for the wings. I suppose that using an engine at the time would have led to criticism since a cheaper and working option had already been succesfully used. (However, as I said, an engine could have made sense because the gears make the wings close reeeeally slowly. It must be said, though, that it is a problem related to the kind of mechanism in itself, so it could not be avoided with such pieces). [/OT]

We have to rotate that friggin' small lever on the back of the Lambda for three. damn. minutes. just to close its giant wings, and we get an engine for the B-Wing's cockpit? I suppose that after the eleventh minifig (at least three of them with newly molded eyes, one with an extra new smirk and two Uber Giga Limited minifigs of an actor who ate a sandwhich in the background near a B-wing (complete with super limited Lego Sandwitch)), TLG just couldn't find another way of inflating the price of the UCS. The developers looked each other in the eyes and asked "We need to make this set more expensive". One of them said "Let's use some gears. It worked with the Lambda". The chief said "Still too cheap. And we don't have an excuse for making them out of pure platinum. YET." The most clever of the bunch said "What about a pound of gold dust?" "Nope, it must have something to do with the set. Good idea, though, I'll write it down here". The last one said "Let's add a motor". Roaring applauses ensued, together with bottles of wine and cakes.
-
Power functions on the b-wing? And what for? Just to open and close the wings? I can't really see the utility of including a true motor just to move two wings, unless you like the idea of setting it on a loop and watch it clap its wings to death. Or maybe you need a fancy fan for those really hot days. If you are sweaty and like Lego, I say it's two birds with a stone.

Technically speaking, the entry was added after discovering that foreign shop. I'm not sure if the UCS tag was added as a placeholder or not. Maybe it's just there to remind us that the set was already clarified to be part of the 10XXX series.
-
Just a simple question: what do you mean without the stands? You can't place this set on a table, because the bottom is indeed flat, but the engines are not on its same level (they are a bit lower, ~1 cm).
-
10221? Isn't it the SSD?
-
Thanks for the excellent review, Dcflake! You sure have a lot of patience for taking all those pics and arranging them!

Sorry, my bad. Minifigs can fetch extremely high prices on Bricklink, and there are tons of people who would buy without batting an eye whatever has a bunch of minifigs (as if their inclusion suddenly made any set worth buying). By adding some minifigs, TLG instantly raises the number of future sales AND can consequently raise the set's price "because there are minifigs in it!". Yeah, as if we asked for them. In a UCS.
-
Well, if you already knew that minifigs were threre just to inflate the price of the set, you would be complaining about them before the set's flaws. Those may be there because the builder could not make a better set with the pieces he had, but the minifigs were included just because the set needed a higher price tag.
-
Maybe we nailed the correct numbers, and TLG asked to leave them alone just to stop Google from indexing them, and consequently "spreading the word" about the leak.
-
Youmay be right. I was thinking on the line of "last year we got two Ultimate sets, so why not", but it's also true that the B-Wing seems something that wouldn't fit into the 100€ range (like the overpriced JSF) due to its complexity.
-
Quick question: is the rumor about the B-Wing here because it's "confirmed" that it will be part of next year's waves, or it is just being discussed here and noone knows which year it belongs to?

EBAY SCAM: UCS Millennium Falcon10179 - £186.99 NEW
kamigawa replied to skyliner's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Oh, that can be circumvented very easily. Get the money through Paypal, send a bag of flour, then take away all the money from your Paypal account or linked credit card. Eby user protection kick in, Paypal checks the scam and declares that you have been scammed indeed. Paypal issues a refund, then sees he has already withdrawn everything. You are then told you are right but won't see a penny because his account is void. You will then understand that Paypal's protection has a major flaw and means absolutely nothing unless the scammer is from your own Country and you can report him to the police with ease. -
EBAY SCAM: UCS Millennium Falcon10179 - £186.99 NEW
kamigawa replied to skyliner's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Lol, it's obviously a scam. Take a look at just his most recent sales: all private with people who have only a bunch of votes. Also, two of them have only joined in the last months, and often have bought small items with no particular valure or reason (come on, who the hell buys a tootbrush on Ebay??). Either he decided to blow his cover and try the scam of his life, or his account got hacked a few days ago and he hastily bought some shit just to raise his feedback counter and go for the scam. I'm 100% sure that those who will pay for those empty boxes (if they receive anything at all) will never get a refund because he will withdraw every single cent from his paypal account while they happily wait for the package (thanks, Paypal!). -
Sigh, the more I look at close-ups of this set, the more I can notice that horrible bridge part and the bump it creates on the surface. I hope that someone will steal the car of the "I'm a conformist" who decided to put minifigs in this set just to increase its price.
