Wow, you even tried presuming how others would respond to your last post and wrote retorts in advance. You must be very fun at parties. Ultimately your opinion on the matter is as worthless to LEGO as mine or any others you read in here. Honestly I think I've outlived my necessity for this forum, so my calling you out as obnoxious is probably the catalyst to make sure I don't bother coming here anymore. LotR was the only reason I came here and now that it's ended these threads are only full of people like you (and noticeable others) who insist on whining over the details ad nauseam. Members like Faefrost who actually seem to have a decent grasp on what's going on try to explain with what seems to me like very sound logic, but it typically falls on deaf ears. There is so much circular discussion going on in here that it's doomed to entropy; paying attention to these threads has been mostly a waste of time for a while now. If the Minas Tirith somehow makes it through Ideas I'm sure I'll hear about it. Enjoy your toys everyone, and lighten up.

Attempting to force your weak opinion this way is what I'm calling lazy. If you feel so strongly about your opinion that you feel the desire to force it onto others online more than once in multiple places, take the time to re-state your argument. The "read my argument elsewhere because I don't have time to educate you fools" approach is lazy, at best. The hubris of that suggestion alone leaves a bad taste in my mouth. And I never put any words in your mouth, I pointed directly to the center of your "argument". You claim that making these sets character focused was the sole reason the sales faltered. You also claim that the movies weren't hero-centric like the books, simply because there were cinematic battle scenes. Both arguments are narrow, misguided, and (I feel) incorrect. Yeah, I mean I wonder why LEGO even bothers paying for a presumably expensive marketing team when they could just tap the community for deep insights in the vein of, "kids don't care about main characters!"

Lazy argument is lazy. I've read your points and still disagree with you. Tolkien glorifies the hell out of the main characters in all of his writings, and PJ accentuates this heavily in the films. Yes there are battles, but there is also so many levels of character development and heroic themes that you have to be delusional to think that the main characters aren't the main focus. Suggesting that others are "in denial" because they're pointing out the massive holes in your argument comes across as desperation. I'm confident that the line has ended, and that it was poorly executed in some respects, but I still disagree with most of the points you're (trying) to make.

haha this gave me a chuckle to be fair this could be said about pretty much any thread; it's easy to get lost in any fanbase conversation if you aren't a fan. There's probably some cross-over, but they really aren't the same thing. There are plenty of Tolkien fans who would buy WETA collectibles but wouldn't consider buying Tolkien-themed LEGO. The aesthetics are entirely different between a brick toy and a reproduction/memorabilia piece.

maybe someone on the Ideas team follows the crazy speculation in this thread and put it there knowing how easy it would be to troll everyone

yeah I actually just came back to edit that out of my post haha. I already found the form on their website and submitted the request. The 'select which pieces' format was very easy and well-thought out. I'm very impressed by their website all around, to be honest.

And after a few hours of building, here it is. Can't really say I understand why there were so many gripes about this set. I think it's fantastic! Also makes a perfect display for The Company. Also, my set was missing one 2x1 sand-green brick. Has anyone else ever experience this before? I've never had a LEGO set with a missing piece before. I was building on a clean table and dumping bags out into bowls, but I still looked everywhere around the table and double checked the bags and am positive it was not included. Will LEGO send me a replacement brick if I contact them? Seems silly but it's noticeable (you can see the lower pillar just to the right of Bofur)

I get what you're saying, but you can't really use the generalized "you" in those statements because those are exactly the reasons I watch the films. Maybe many people watch them as action films, but my favorite parts of the LotR and Hobbit films have always been the parts that take place in the Shire.

decided to go ahead and buy lonely mountain. Amazon Prime got them back in at MSRP so I went ahead with it rather than missing out on it and having to pay more at TRU (not to mention the added tax). Can't wait to finally get my hands on Smaug and get the final pieces of a complete Tolkien LEGO collection :)

awesome packaging though, and I love the lack of logic behind LotR characters fighting the Goblin King!

and don't forget that sweet Eye of Sauron piece!
