For those interested, the Control Lab 1.0 software provided in this thread works fine on Ubuntu, through Wine (the windows compatibility layer). I get one error when I start the program, but after dismissing it, everything works fine. Ubuntu also supports most USB-to-serial adapters without needing to install any additional software. Also, the cable included in 9751 is a null modem cable. You'll probably still need it to connect to a USB-to-serial adapter, or some other kind of null modem adapter.
