Welcome to Eurobricks! I also got back in due to the theme kits -- great way for AFOLs to reignite our love of LEGO.

Expand the Winter Village Contest IV - Winners!
programmerdan replied to Pandora's topic in LEGO Town
I am in awe of the submissions here! Bravo and congratulations to the winners, your attention to detail and creativity are inspiring. -
That's a great question, one I'd like to know the answer to as well. I know that the developer of the Wall-of-bricks (www.wallofbricks.com) had some interest in that exact problem but from a different angle -- building sets using PaB wall selections -- but I'd be interested in making an approximate inventory of my loose parts and seeing what sets they combine to form, that'd be useful (to a degree -- my loose parts are generally used just for MOCs). [edit] @Phoxtane -- of course. I keep meaning to sign up over there, thanks for reminding me!

Welcome back to LEGO! I'm glad to hear you rediscovered this wonderful toy for creative expression.

"Doesn't he want anything else for Christmas?" -- my mom, to my wife, in reference to my Christmas Amazon wish list, which was about 75% LEGO kits. I'm sure someone else here has heard similar before! Of course, to humor, I put some power tools on my list (I also do woodworking and other construction-type projects on the side, when not LEGO'ing) -- but in the end, she got me the LEGO kit (it was more affordable!).

I'm in a pretty sweet spot -- all you folks living far from LEGO or outlet stores, I feel for you! On the East Coast USA, just about the only thing anyone does is shop, and malls are huge here -- so i'm within 45 minutes of three big malls, four LEGO stores (five if I expand to 1 1/2 hours) and countless Walmarts, TRUs, Targets, and the like. The hardest thing in this area is to NOT spend all my money on LEGO. As for pricing, it's hit or miss. Walmart periodically discounts sets, and sometimes puts runouts in their "clearance" isle for half or more off (I've gotta a few expensive kits on the cheap that way). Target and Walmart carry very different types of kits in store, usually, so that makes it interesting to visit both. TRU, while having a great selection in my area, of course suffers from the 20%+ markup they put on all their toys. With so many LEGO stores in my area selling at RRP, it just doesn't make sense for me to buy from TRU, unless it's a kit exclusive to that store (which has happened from time to time). It's a LEGO world, I just play in it.

Hello everyone, greetings from East Coast USA
programmerdan replied to programmerdan's topic in Hello! My name is...
Thanks all! I'm actually in New Jersey -- I've got four stores in state, and one in NYC that's easy to get to (actually just a few stops off my commute home). Good guesses though ... I'm surprised at the concentration of LEGO stores in the Northeast USA -- we must all be LEGO nuts :D. @eurotrash -- sounds like fun! I wasn't trying to hit as many as possible, but I did visit all four NJ stores over the Christmas holiday while travelling between relatives -- good thing my wife is patient with me and my hobbies! -
I'd like to tell you my love story
programmerdan replied to DreamsKnight's topic in Hello! My name is...
What a wonderful story! Glad to have you here, and maybe the love story is with both? :) -
I'm blessed with an understanding wife. I've always enjoyed LEGO (although I went through my own dark ages), and I collect them proudly. Just about everyone I knows is aware of my growing collection, as do my co-workers. Different people react differently, some positively and some negatively, but I figure that's their issue. As has been mentioned, it's a hobby -- nobody has to understand or appreciate my hobby for it to be legitimate. And as I'm discovering more and more, LEGO especially has an enduring appeal both young and old, so the outright acceptance of my hobby has been rather heart-warming. This isn't just a kid's toy any more -- it's a major art form, and ties into many other interests (Star Wars, Minecraft, super heros, comic characters, etc.). So, with that said -- @DebkoX, be proud! If you love LEGO, revel in it. Some people will mock you, sure, but that's their loss. The majority of people will accept it as a legitimate interest, so don't be afraid to live it up.

As close to goals as I can get: * Figure out how to managebly organize my growing LEGO set and loose bricks collections -- without taking over the entire house. * Get into the Modulars series * Build more MOCs ** Build season-appropriate "mini-displays" on the shelf my wife has reserved for me in our living room ** Update and cycle the models on display on the shelves in my office * Get involved in a LUG (any Northern New Jersey LUGs? PM me!) * Go to at least one fan-of-LEGO convention And of course ... not go broke buying LEGOs ...

Philly Brick Fest 2014
programmerdan replied to Philly Brick Fest's topic in LEGO Events and User Groups
Thanks for posting this! I'm about 2 hours away, but this looks like a great first LEGO convention for me too. I'll have to see if I can convince my schedule keeper to let us go :). -
I've got a long wait ahead of me -- but I'm definitely planning to attend the New Jersey fair later in the year. Looking forward to it!

Hi everyone! I'm an AFOL based in middle/north East Coast USA, with a growing collection of LEGO kits and parts for MOC'ing. I started back into LEGO a bit more than a year ago, as more spending money allowed me to begin seriously considering theme kits that coincide with my interests, such as Star Wars, LoTR, Minecraft, and The Hobbit. I've also been making aggressive use of the Pick-a-Brick walls in my local LEGO stores (I'm within 45 minutes of 4 stores, I feel blessed!) to grow my loose brick collection. All these things combine to bring me here, as I'm looking toward to getting more involved in the broader AFOL community, to share ideas and gain new insights into the use and collection of LEGO kits and pieces. Anyway, glad to be here, and I look forward to sharing this mutual joy with all of you.
