The 16 foot side is against a wall, but everything else I can walk around. I have a step ladder/stool that I can kneel on to give me more arms reach if I need it. Also the way it's setup is each rectangle is it's on "table". Each table will be bolted together and I'm putting feet *think appliance feet* under all of the legs with furniture sliders so that I can move the entire layout around to access stuff if I can't do it with a little step stool. I have had full size air hockey machines in this spot and didn't have any issue so hopefully everything will work like I want.

Update: The guy is supposed to start building my layout possibly this weekend so hopefully it will be fully built by next weekend! Also managed to get my hands on a lot of sets for a really good price from a friend: 1-7938 Passenger Train 1-7939 Cargo Train 1-7937 Train Station 1-7936 Level Crossing 2-4645 Harbor 2-3180 Tanker Truck 1-3221 Lego Truck I also have the Maersk train coming in soon. So far at home I have the red cargo train, one tanker truck *not including the 2 on the list*, and the recycle truck!

I started designing one last night that is 2 sections wide. I like the look of the dual rail tires on both ends, but not sure if I will keep it like that since I want to put some stuff under it for unloading purposes. Only problem I'm having is finding the gauge piece in LDD that is on the octan truck...Anyone know how to find that piece in LDD? After playing around with different ideas Roams was the best looking that I liked. So that's the design I will be using for mine.
-
Wow he's good! *fixed!*
-
I just like the way it's layed out and not because it's "bigger"... I think I'm going to use Roams design and put a ladder at each end or something. Not sure if the under parts will be grey or black yet either.
-
Thanks for that Roam!

The version I like the best is this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Lego-Train-Octan-Custom-Car-11-5-inches-long-3677-4512-7939-7898-10133-10219-/120852426437?_trksid=p5197.m7&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D5%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D6138530315697115973 Although for my layout I will take out one of the sections to make it closer to the tanker in the yellow cargo set. I see how it's all done, but can't really tell how he did the wheel base on each end.
-
Exactly like that! What extra pieces/parts did you have to order to make this work? I'm getting the yellow cargo train in the next few weeks and wanted to have 4-5 tank cars for my layout... Edit: Anyone have a picture of one like this next to the tanker in the yellow train set? I'm curious how the two look together.
-
Has anyone ever used the Octan tank truck to make a tanker car?

I really like this setup good work! I'm also planning on getting the new harbor and the 7994 harbor set. Now If I could find a big red lego boat!

Ok so I've been working on a train layout and I will update this thread as I progress in the build/setup of this! I'm doing a harbor/freight yard setup, switching yard, and a city/cities... Big thanks goes to Kyphur for being an awesome person and extremely helpful! If someone can convert that PDF to a picture and post it in the thread I would be very thankful! Oh yeah I meant to mention that so far I have the red cargo train and the new train station which I plan on expanding and making better! I also have the entire space police 3 set, but I think that will probably find a shelf soon because I don't see it working with my plans. 4912_001.pdf

Hey everyone I'm John from Louisiana... I've been a lego fan for years and have wanted to make a train layout for an extremely long time! Well about a week ago I cleared out my house, started rebuilding all of my legos, and have been designing a nice sized layout for my stuff. Last night I grabbed the red cargo train (3677) and the train station (7937) which are my first lego trains sets. I'm hoping to get around to building them as soon as I finish my back log of other lego sets to rebuild... Will post pictures as everything starts to come together and I get further along with my layout.

Thanks Brick! I played with the one that most people use, but trying to judge without dimensions is slightly difficult!
-
I played with blue brick and train designer a little and didn't really care for either to be honest! Anyone know of a cad like program that allows you to set the size of your entire layout and then lay it out? I would like to be able to make the table first*one color* and then start adding the track on top of it.

Dude I dig it! Maybe some helmets *it is space lol* on the cops, but otherwise I like it.

In need of some design help
spanks_4 posted a topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Any good designers have free time to help me out with something I'm about to start working on? It's going to in the theme of Space Police 3 so have to have an idea of working with those parts. Sorry if this is the wrong section to ask, but anyone interested please PM me. -
Can HO-scale Wheels be Used for LEGO Trains?
spanks_4 replied to spanks_4's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I guess I will have to run 1-2 Lego trains along with my HO stuff then... Hopefully my 12foot x 8 foot space will be big enough. -
I searched for this, but didn't see what I was after so sorry if I missed it. I have a bunch of HO scale train stuff and was wondering if it's possible to use the HO scale wheels for making my own lego cars? I'm not sure if the HO wheels will snap into a lego base or something so if anyone has any idea or info I would greatly appreciate it.
-
Thanks for the info Rock... One of my biggest issue's with using the space police stuff is like you said it's big! I should have a pretty large area to work with, but trying to make buildings for some of those things is going to be hard! Any pictures of your layout?
-
Anyone do a space police layout yet? I'm thinking of doing a big layout with trains running threw/around it and trying to get some ideas if anyone has done it before.
-
I have been a lego fan for years and also been a fan of HO scale electric trains. I have the entire space police collection *the new set* and wondering if anyone has every done a layout as I'm trying to figure out how it would be best to lay it all out... I'm hoping to have enough space to throw in some of the city stuff also, but can't see how the space stuff will fit in unless I do an entirely seperate platform for that stuff.
-
I am using the latest version, but it seems a lot of the pieces for trains and older sets are just not there. I agree LU version has alot of stuff, but it would be nice if they could figure out a way to put every piece ever used in the system. Someone also mentioned in another post about the visibility of bricks with different colors. I agree that in a lot of colors it is hard to see the bricks, but I find red to be the easiest.

Anyone know if the missile launcher piece on the SP3 thug ships is in LDD? I have looked and don't see it, but I could be looking right past it. page 13 of the SP3 base has the black piece I am talking about.
