  1. Big companies like TLG (Now the biggest toy brand) are a lot like Hollywood. Regardless of how good a script you write, Michael Bay will never come knocking on your door. He's gonna produce his own project. Even if the next Jurassic Park is staring him in the face. There's a .0001% chance TLG will ever get involved.
  2. It's a neat idea, but the ship is (because it would fall apart otherwise) VERY INTERCONNECTED. It would honestly be 2x the work just trying to figure out how to break-up and then connect all the sections.
  3. Thanks for all the warm words / donations, guys! Here's the link: https://www.kickstar...?ref=nav_search
  4. Are Kickstarter links allowed? I remember some anti-promotion mumbo-jumbo. Just search "Executor" in the Kickstarter search field. BTW, the posters are beyond awesome. I mean 50" wide at 9600 x 5400!
  5. To update: I've started a Kickstarter campaign for it. If it doesn't work (and there's a 99.9% chance it won't) I'll give up. Someone else will have to come along and build an SSD.
  6. Right now I'm still trying to gather funds for the project. I'm starting a Kickstarter campaign soon. Even if I do, I'm still not sure I could construct it. Let me know if you're interested :)
  7. I was waiting for over a decade for someone to build a large scale ISD SNOT. Apparently, no one had the design and build skills to pull it off... until now. Bravo. There's so much remarkable detail and greebles that there's literally nothing you could add that would make it look better. IT'S PERFECT. Until someone provides evidence otherwise, this is the best Lego SW MOC ever constructed. Lego master designers couldn't even design/build this. I like the length you decided on. 6 1/2 feet is epic, but affordable. Someone else tried too hard for epic and tried to build a SNOT 13 feet long, but only got to the bridge section before they realized it would weigh 400KG and cost $100,000. See below:
  8. Yes it will haunt my dreams for many years. I'll place one support beam right in front of the engine section. That's the center of mass. At least, that's where the studio model's is. I think it will crash most people's LDD. But an inventory list is useless given she's hollow / missing 30% of final parts.
  9. Thanks for the kind words, mortesv! The trench does seem a bit wide, but I happen to like the way it looks. Bob is also right, she's too narrow, by about 8-10 studs. You can tell because the left and right engines are too close together -- I think I used the resin model for a guide when I began the design. Stupid disproportionate resin model! And the city is a bit too narrow and low by 2/3 a stud. It "pops out" more in the studio model. And the tail is 4 studs too long, and needs to slope inward more. Whew. I'm exhausted :) You can see how problematic this can get. In fact, even the "perfect" reference guides are not so perfect. This was Aeroeza's render based off sketches: As you can see, the ridgeline of the city in the tail should not be straight. And the engine flap in the middle is much wider in the studio model. And (not shown here) the flap in the belly groove is too narrow. And overall, I still think this render is a bit too wide-- Ahhhh! You see how frustrating this is? In the end, you have to borrow design elements from 10 different sources. You also have to take into account inherent Lego size issues. At 12.5 feet, her engine cowlings should technically be something like 5.22 studs wide, well, I only have rims 5.5 studs wide. Her city blocks should be 3.63 studs wide. Well, I need an integer. I'll use 4. The real question now is should I bother to make adjustments during construction, or just build the ship exactly the way it is? Make her MY interpretation. I'm not quite sure yet.
  10. Thanks for the bridge design, I'll give it a try! I actually remember making that antenna gray at one point, but it looked terrible. It's funny, many people never even notice that color issue until it's pointed out It's one of those odd psychological effects.
  11. I too had a fiber optic ISD. But I was too young / dumb at the time to build it. Would it be possible to add light sources to the blue tiles as well? Maybe we can see the city lit-up after all :)
  12. Blakbird is the best! I'm going to make the actual build (God willing) light up as well. It would be awesome to see the 3000+ blue tiles on the city aglow.
  13. EB Forums' Blakbird did some beautiful test renders with the LDraw file I just had to show.
  14. LDD doesn't have a piece limit, but a polygon limit. Those base plates + mini-figs alone have more polygons than half my ship.
  15. The bridge needs to be 1 stud wide at this scale, and basically 1 stud high. If you have a better design, post it! I'll use it in the actual build (God willing).
  16. Thought I'd add two more shots.
  17. Thanks for your input! I'll take it under advisement. Recall, I also built a 7-foot, 30,000 piece, 24 Kg Mon Calamari. In fact there were some nervous moments where my hand was keeping it from splitting in two. Also, If I build my SSD in a garage, I wouldn't have to worry about moving it down stairs etc. As for the modular issue, gimme me a blueprint of what you have in mind, than I'll think about it :) Sylvain's last entry for his giant Venator was 18 months ago. Is he even continuing to build it? Maybe it was just impractical. You double a ship's L/W/H and the weight goes up by a factor of 8. If his 8-footer was 80 Kg, his 16 footer should be around 640 Kg! And the stresses would increase by a similar factor. This is why elephants don't look like giant mice. Their legs need to be EXPONENTIALLY THICKER. Also, given the cost of tiles, a 320,000 piece model would cost upwards of $100,000! As for my SSD, A pure Lego build is out of the question. It doesn't possess the HEIGHT required to remain firm along its length. She'll be too flimsy. For eg: A 1 cm thick 3'x12' Plexiglas slab bends A LOT MORE than a 2-inch 3'x12' slab of much heavier weight. She'll bend, no matter what you try and do. You'd better be offering me money to build it!!!!! :) You can e-mail me at Eagle1_VFA_113@hotmail.com. To all you people asking about instructions: Are you bloody insane!!! :) There would be at least 10,000 steps, and you'd have to sell your soul for the necessary parts. In fact, lemme give you a little piece breakdown: 2x2 tiles -- 4400. 1x2 tiles -- 5600. 1x1 tiles -- 5,000, 1x2 Jumper Bricks 11,200! Even if you literally bought up every tile on Bricklink, you'd still be short!
  18. You can convert the LDraw file to 3DS. And yes, thank you Erdbeereis for putting it on the front page! And for Brickdoctor for blogging it! And for all your kind words! Here's a clear engine shot:
  19. That's what I'm worried about, Lego Otaku. If I sell the LDD file, the last thing I need is someone complaining it won't run on their computer and they want a refund. Or what if they can't render it? Are they gonna bombard me with questions? BTW, thanks to Lego Otaku for rendering the first pic!
  20. I should point out that due to severe LDD crash issues at 38,000 pieces, there is NO INTERIOR. The final model will need an additional 30,000 -- (God knows how many) pieces of structural support. And it will need to be built on a steel frame AND superglued together. So the final price will be in the 20,000 Euro range. As for getting in touch with TLG. I'll definitely take you up on that offer. Thanks! However, I doubt I have the credentials for them to entrust me with that kind of money :( Kickstarter is a serious consideration. As for a modular build, it could never happen. The model slopes in too many directions. It would need to be shipped in a 13-foot STURDY crate. a) She's perfect dammit!!! :) In fact, since the ILM model's never been properly captured from a high and flat shot, it's hard to judge what her true angles are. My version is definitely wider than most Computer game models of the SSD. b) This isn't a giant Hogwarts! The 3D slope of the wings prevents cutting it into pieces. I'm not an FX guy. If you know someone who is. Lemme know! You're right. There are no instructions, or supports. But this isn't for builders. I thought casual LDD'ers might want to just screw around with it on computer. But the consensus is obvious. You guys think I should scrap the Ebay sale all together and try Kickstarter instead? If no one here wants to buy it, maybe I'm wasting my time.
  21. After 1000 hours and 1 billion fried brain cells, I finally finished my Executor design. She's in midi-scale, but that still makes her almost 13 feet long with a weight of 100 Kg. She fits on TWO LDD files (35,000 pieces each) but will fit completely in Ldraw (MLCAD). If you can believe it, I'm actually trying to build this behemoth. Sadly, I don't have the $25,000 needed, so I'll be selling the LDD/Ldraw files on Ebay starting next week. Does $35 sound reasonable? If anyone you know might be interested, I'd appreciate it if you'd give them the heads up. You can check out more mindless commentary / pics here: http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/376591 The design is VERY TRUE to the original model used for Episodes V and VI. She's got all the correct dimensions. And I didn't just randomly place long rectangular blocks to fill up the dorsal city like MOST PEOPLE :) All blocks are the correct shape, size and in proper position. I also crammed in as many barrels / slopes / pipes I could discern from the reference pics. I don't want to toot my own horn, but TOOT -- pro (non-Lego) model builders don't go into this level of detail. I dare you to show me one! :) I also painfully recreated the engine section to specs. There's over 20,000 pieces in the rear alone. I think this would be great project to screw around with like I did here. I built a ton of scale ships to recreate the battle of Endor. The ISD is Brickdoctor's and the frigate is Legostein's. No variety of laser color looks good. Anyway, thanks for viewing. You can check out high-res shots in my BL folder when it's public here: http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=401256 Bye for now and Happy New Year EB'ers!
  22. OMG! It's you! Big fan here :) That ISD is absolutely brilliant! You've got 1/3 the length of the UCS ISD to work with and you STILL made it with better proportions! And It's also nearly perfect to scale with my SSD. As for a physical build, I was once told building a 7-foot Mon Cal was impossible, so... :) If I use a steel cross with the intersection at the ship's center of mass (just under the bridge) I'll have the necessary support to build the Executor around it. The problem is cost. Tiles are worth their weight in gold. That's why I'm trying Ebay. On that note: Can I have your permission to include your ISD in one of the Executor files I'm selling? (The LXF of the rendered pic) Since it wasn't my design, I was going to just include a link where others could download it, but it would be easier if I just packaged the two. I'll send you a free copy :)
  23. Thanks everyone! As for the Executor, I've currently completed the full design (It's shown in the LDD2POVRAY thread) but can't afford the $30,000 for parts! I'm selling the LDD file on Ebay next week. But will likely only receive a puny amount :( I need George Lucas to fund this.
  24. There is no solution. It's a program problem. LDD can't display more than 7.8 million polygons (see post at top of page). But I feel your pain, buddy. On each version of LDD released since 2005, there was a giant capital ship I couldn't design (in one piece). But it's getting better. LDD2 maxed out at 11,000. LDD3 maxed out at 31,000. And now it's around 41,000 pieces. In LDD5, I bet you can take it up to 50,000. BTW. I wanna see your capital ship. Post a pic!
