  1. That's a drop in the bucket compared to some of the members here. I know Itaria No Shintaku has bought in excess of 30-40 of some of the individual CMFs.
  2. I hope we are proven wrong so everyone that wants them has a chance to find these figures. It really is a great series. I realize there's a certain irony in saying this when I have been busy snatching up Cheerleaders and Gargoyles. Hey, this is nothing compared to my efforts to stockpile S6 Roman Soldiers and S13 Goblins (20 of each)...
  3. I might grab a couple more Specters and possibly another Spider Lady, but I'm content with six each of the Zombie Cheerleader and Gargoyle (independent of my display of the set of 16, of course). If these really do have a short production run, I'm glad my minifig paranoia drives me to snap up all I want from each new set ASAP.
  4. I raided four Walgreens in my area on Sunday and ended up with a complete set of 16 plus 27 extras. My local Target did not have any, when I asked they brought Simpsons S2 out from the back. Wal-Marts are starting to get them too. Just stopped by my local store today. They had an untouched endcap display (two aisles away from the Lego aisle, I might add), so I grabbed 6 more spares. And my Wal-Mart usually has a fairly terrible Lego selection. I now have all of S14 I think I'll need. Glad I could wrap it up quickly. My favorites are the Zombie Cheerleader and the Gargoyle. I think this is one of the strongest series so far. I don't mind themed series as long as they are done well, and Lego has hit the mark here. As for why the Gargoyle has short legs, I am guessing that this is supposed to simulate a crouching position. I'm no authority on gargoyles, but you normally don't see them standing bolt upright. We all know that articulation is not a minifigure's strong suit, and crouching is not something they do well at all. To achieve a proper crouched pose, Lego would have to introduce a newly molded lower half, and I suspect they would be loath to do so for an application such as this. Or he could just be a short gargoyle. I'm sure they exist :)
  5. I happened to be studying abroad in Oxford during the summer of 2012, so I couldn't pass up buying a complete box of 60 Team GB Collectible Minifigs. When I learned of their release and exclusivity earlier in the year, I made getting a box my goal. I'm proud to say I accomplished that goal on my first full day in England! Still probably the best souvenir I've ever acquired.
  6. I have a somewhat weird and specific photo request. I'd be really grateful if someone would be able to do this for me. I have the Parisian Restaurant and the Detective's Office and am loving both of them. I think they're great sets as-is and have no immediate plans to modify them. Looking at them head-on, I have them connected with the Restaurant on the left and the Office on the right. Here is the request: I am thinking about picking up the Pet Shop, and would like to see how it looks next to the Detective's Office - but if I were to get the set, I would reverse the order of the brownstone apartment building and the blue pet shop. I would put the pet shop on the left and the apartment on the right, the inverse of how it appears in the promotional pictures. Would someone with both the DO and the Pet Shop please take a picture of the sets connected in this order, from left to right: DO, PS Pet Shop, PS apartment? Thanks in advance!
  7. You should ask the employees, but I've been to a couple Lego stores that will just let you pick out any 15 parts. It's quite handy if your local store has nifty parts and you don't feel like doing a little Bricklinking.
  8. Did anyone get a second Ma Cop torso instead of a Pa Cop torso? I did today, time to contact TLG and get everything squared away!
  9. I'm a huge fan of Yotsuba &! This is some great work. However, I feel compelled to tell you that your custom minifig is the middle daughter, Fuuka Ayase. Asagi is the eldest daughter (and Ena is the youngest).
  10. I'd go for the Haunted House. It's an amazing display piece and one of my favorite sets. It sounds like it's more up your alley anyway, what with having the rest of the MF line and liking the theme, yet only being a casual LoTR fan. I don't have the Orthanc set but it looks more fragile, which might be a concern if your kids will be playing with it. The hinged dollhouse-like nature of the HH only adds to its playability. If you have a large amount of reddish brown 1x6, 1x4, 1x2, and 1x1 tiles you can give all three floors of the house wood flooring. I did this to mine and it looks amazing.
  11. Great review! What a nostalgia trip...this set provided me with my very first skeleton, back in 1995.
  12. After spending some time poking around on the customer service site, I'm reasonably convinced that it is the avenue through which the seller I mentioned is getting his part stockpiles. Maybe they're out of stock on the dark red hoods because he cleaned out their inventory? I did notice that certain license-specific parts are not available through the system. I'm sure it's part of the licensing agreement. For example, another old part in a new color I'll be wanting to snap up from 75025 is the Luminara Unduli hat in white. That piece isn't even listed on the service website, but the hood is because it is a more generic part, even if it only ever appears in dark red in the one SW set.
  13. https://service.lego.com/en-us/replacementparts#WhatIndividualBrickBuy/98011 Wow, you learn something new every day! I didn't know this was an option.
  14. These hoods appear to be completely legit. They're not mismolded, discolored, or repainted. Knowing how purist a lot of Lego fans (including myself!) can be, I imagine that there would be a large outcry if it was known that sellers were dealing in counterfeit parts. Note that I'm talking about Bricklink. Anything goes on eBay...
  15. Most of the parts I've seen in the Build-A-Minifig bins (which are more relevant here, as I am referring to minifig accessories) are either fairly generic or from earlier Collectible Minifig serieses. I'm not saying it never happens, but I've never seem parts like hoods, rarer hairpieces, or armor plates in the BAM bins. Over several years of Bricklinking I've come across several sellers that have very large inventories (in the hundreds) of parts I would consider difficult to stockpile in large quantities.
  16. I've often wondered how some sellers on Bricklink obtain such huge quantities of certain parts, primarily minifig accessories, that are only offered as one-ofs in expensive sets. Take for example the hood piece in dark red. The only set it appears in is the 75025 Jedi Defender-class Cruiser, which isn't even out yet in most parts of the world and will likely retail for over $100 USD. I bought four of the hoods from one of my favorite Bricklink sellers earlier in the week, and at the time of this posting he has 357 of them in stock. Does Lego offer some sort of bulk parts program for minifig accessories in potentially desirable colors like this? Can anyone shed light on how certain sellers stockpile such huge quantities of rare parts? I apologize if this has previously been answered elsewhere.
  17. Great review! I was lucky enough to be studying abroad in Oxford (I'm also from the US) last sunmer, so I was able to buy a box of 60 for retail price at an awesome shop called Boswell & Co. I still consider them to be the ultimate souvenir.
  18. Hey, I'm not complaining. It's a relatively new piece, only having been previously included with the S7 Swimmer. It has a lot of potential applications. Of course, I do have 60+ of them now...
  19. True, but there are those who dislike fleshies and the Legolas/Haldir hairpiece has flesh ears. The S3 Elf hairpiece will always be useful for those who only work with yellow.
  20. Yeah, that was me. 6 each of the boxer, weightlifter, and equestrian; 7 each of the other 6.
  21. This looks awesome! The Forest Temple was always my favorite dungeon from OOT. You've done a fine job recreating the iconic Sacred Forest Grove.
  22. natelite, the receipt says that VAT was 19.90, but it was included in the total of 119.40. Also, this deviates a bit off topic from the Team GB minifigs but it does involve a CMF piece... I picked up The Zombies set from Argos yesterday since it's not available in the States yet and I was tired of waiting for it. Jack McHammer + Team GB Archer's Superman hair in Dark Orange = Chuck Norris. When I get back to the States, I'm switching out his robotic arm for a right green sleeve and standard hand.
  23. Here's the case breakdown: Row 1 (left), front to back 1. Archer 2. Archer 3. Gymnast 4. Tennis Player 5. Gymnast 6. Gymnast 7. Weightlifter 8. Weightlifter 9. Tennis Player 10. Swimmer 11. Archer 7 Archers, 6 Boxers, 7 Gymnasts, 7 Judo practitioners, 7 Tennis players, 6 Weightlifters, 7 Runners, 7 Swimmers, 6 Equestrians. Overall, I'm pleased with this series. It may not be as dynamic or interesting as the seven numbered serieses, but it will always have special meaning for me because I was in-country to find and buy them. It's great to have the newer ponytail piece in bright yellow and black as well (Series 6's skater girl with her purple stripe doesn't count). The Equestrian's helmet and hair combo is the same one used in one of the new Friends sets. I'm a big fan of the 3L bar piece, so it's great to see it in white (Weightlifter) and flat silver (Runner). I think it makes a better wand / handaxe shaft than its 4L counterpart. I have a serious surplus of gold medals now... AmperZand, I thought it was a great store. The two clerks assisting me were very courteous, and were even hesitant to cut the seals on the box so we knew how many to ring up! That's my fault though, I was throwing around the term "sealed box" too much. I meant sealed as in "factory ratios not tampered with," so I made sure to tell them that I did not mind, as I was going to open the box and all the packets myself anyway. I thanked them profusely and told them that being able to buy a box really meant a lot to me!
  24. I'm studying abroad in Oxford for a month. Just got in yesterday, and one of my first things to do today was go Minifig hunting. I'm happy to report that I was able to buy a complete, sealed box at a shop called Boswell & Co. I've opened 29/60 of the packs thus far and took a little break because I just opened the Karate girl and now have a complete set of 9 on display. I first saw them at WH Smith, where they were 2.50 pounds apiece. I'm glad I didn't jump the gun in my excitement, since Boswell was just a few stores down and they had them for 1.99 each. I paid 119.40 in total. I haven't bought an entire box since series 4, since it's a lot more economical to feel for a complete set of 16 plus any spares. Take series 5 for example: I only wanted one 80's fitness instructor for display with the rest of the set, while I wanted 20 Romans from series 6. However, since I'm from the US and these are UK exclusive, I bought a box because I consider them to be the ultimate souvenir. It really is lucky that I'm studying here just as they release a country-exclusive item. I'll provide a breakdown of the box's contents by column when I've finished opening all the packets. Let's hope I can get these home safe...
  25. I apologize if this has already been answered elsewhere in this thread, but is the new helmet included in the Castle Fortaan set compatible with standard minifigs, or is it only sized for microfigs? I was speaking with an employee in a Lego store about this today, and neither of us could remember.
