We had some good looking entries for challenge 3, here's to hoping we stay on top!! GOLD!! -
Haha. You're right, some of your WIP pics were much nicer in quality. Try retaking the photos outside, in a shaded area with no flash on. I think you will like the results MUCH better!

I believe so long as it is May 12 anywhere in the world an entry can still be made. I think the intent is the deadline is the end of May 12th where you live. -
Oh yeah! I hope the minis are of the good quality and I will be snapping some of these up!

Round 3 Altar of the Earth Crystal
ZCerberus replied to Captain BeerBeard's topic in Guilds of Historica
Nice work. I think you did a good job of keeping the colors balanced on the final version. I like the house build. The dragons on the eves look pretty cool. Also, good head choices with the fleshies. The story is a bit sparse, but I think that is fine when you have great pictures. Finally a reason to get heroe factory/bionicle for the castle fans! I don't follow hero facotry, so I didn't know where those pieces were from. I think of all the heroe factory guys/parts the Toxic Reapa guy has the perfect "plant" face, so good choice using him there. A couple of other notes: 1. Though I know the story says the crystal is attached to the rock the guardian is holding, it would be cool if we could see that in the photos. 2. The staging of the bashed/killed figs could look a little more "real". The just look toppled over still holding everything in the photo like they are. 3. Where's the crazy, Beerbeard stylized, super bloody photo? -
a firey from me.

I do like sourcing material for builds from movies and games (like the trebuchet on the Great Gatehouse of Albion was taken from Minas Tirith in LotR) but perhaps surprisingly, I am not a big RPG gamer and I have never played final fantasy. I googled final fantasy churches after your (that would bea collective 'your' I guess ) comment and found a few shots that do sort of have the same vibe. Looks like Final Fantasy may be a new source of art I will have to examine for inspiration! Here is a still from the google search. I guess for me the idea started with the guardians. I saw some "hardsuit" builds that I thought were pretty cool (which is probably why the anime comments are spot on) and figured I could make a giant knight using similar techniques.

Depends a lot on the build. I don't keep many actual official LEGO sets together unless they are 1) modular buildings or 2) Star Wars UCS builds (with the exception of the last two SLAVE I models. I can't help it, I love them!) As for MOCs, I have a lot of them together, but some get taken apart if they use a lot of pieces I don't have many of. Avalonian Farm... together. River Run Watchtower... together (going to BW, may do a little extra something on this one to spice it up). Great Gatehouse of Albion... together (going to BW with bridge addition). Keeper's Tomb... together. Wolfpack Tower... together. Prince of the Forest Build... taken apart. Rossen Manor... together, but destruction pending. I think when I get around to some of the other Albion and title builds, they will only last long enough to be photoed. EDIT: Hey check it out... POST #1600 in the thread! Go Avalonia!! -
It is a bit too "jaggy" maybe you make part of it out of cheese slopes to "round" it out. Also, maybe add a dark pupil to the center?
-
Thanks everyone! Well I guess I just had nowhere else to put them. As you can see from the "renegades" shot I built a bunch of the Wolfpack figures to make a mini-faction (I didn't even get all the guys I made in the final shot of the renegades picture) so I wanted a few on there to represent the guys I made for the faction. Maybe I could have left one of the figures off, but I figured if they were there, they would want to check out the action. What about the guy hiding behind the tree?

I should have about 100 of that head, so I think I can do that. I missed Kingdoms II and the Bull knights in a mini dark age, so you will have to suffer with the random head I put under that giant beard. I will try putting the head in the hair piece first. Levels of activity definitely change. Several of those figs I had made from earlier MOCs like the Great Gatehouse of Albion or Rossen Manor. I did try to focus on people who, for the most part, are still around. -

They are certainly similar... you're right... his head is this one I think... Bricklink Me Which I don't have. So you too will have the same head for now. -
I have three tips. LIGHTING, LIGHTING, LIGHTING!!! I take the photos outside so the lighting is very "natural" and I take the photos in a shaded area so there are no, or very limited shadows. The other big hint is to turn your flash off. The flash adds glare and makes the photos look totally unnatural. Maybe not the most EXTREME example, but the only real difference between these two photos is one is inside with "unnatural" lighting and the other is outside with the natural lighting. The colors, shadows and sharpness are just better with the better lighting!

Not really. I think Timura and dG had the same head... that was about all I really noticed. There may be a few others but if the face is relatively generic looking, i.e. no beard or glasses or something, then I didn't really notice. -

Adventure time! The search for the Water Crystal
ZCerberus replied to Erynlasgalen's topic in Guilds of Historica
The story is long, but quite funny and cute. I sort of want to play a game of kick the 'ye olde' can now. I loved the game growing up! We used to have "night" games every now and again when we would play a game of some sort in the dark once a week. Kick the can was a fav. thanks for the memories! I great job on the main build. It doesn't quite feel "ancient" but it is pretty darn close! It is very detailed and ornate I like your guardian too. He is so mean and cute at the same time. -
Oh yeah, I wedged that spider web in there at the behest of Beerbeard. Thanks every for your comments and for checking it out. Both builds were a lot of fun!
-
Nice work. I think this maybe more of a super duper MOD than a MOC, but you added some nice detail! Linking this to the "update my classic castle" thread!

Looks like member drakke is updating some classic castle too! Click the picture to go to the EB thread for drakke's black falcon fortress.

I am on the mailing list and attended a few meetings when the group first started but the Sunday time slot just never really worked for me. I would recommend joining if the timing works for you!

The given rational for NOT doing "Shawn of the Dead" was it would not market well to their core audience of 5-11 year olds or something. Then again the CUUSSO projects that have already been made weren't really super kid friendly either... Just sayin'. -
