Tereglith Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 The AT-ST is a tough vehicle to capture in Lego form - those weird angles, its relatively small size, the need for legs that are poseable yet support its weight. For my money, it's the most iconic vehicle that TLG has yet to get right in any of its releases. Of course, it doesn't help that the most recent one was in 2009! Since they steadfastly refuse to release a new one (maybe next year?) I decided to design my own, using new parts like the Mixels hinges to achieve the subtle angles of the head in a smaller space than had been possible before. AT-ST by Tereglith, on Flickr AT-ST Top by Tereglith, on Flickr AT-ST Rear by Tereglith, on Flickr It has a high range of poseability, from the bow-legged "just stepped on some logs, uh oh!" look... Nom Carver Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Wow, that thing looks amazing! I will always have a crush for walkers, especially AT-STs, how sturdy is it? I would like to give a try on one of these. Quote
-Horizon- Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Nice Job! The AT-ST looks really good, and so does the updated battle pack. Quote

I would like to give a try on one of these. Thanks! As for its sturdiness, the head is solid as a rock. I used four the of the new mixels joints to achieve the angles, and they work great. The legs are a bit less secure; it will pretty much stay in any balanced pose indefinitely, but it doesn't take much disturbance for the legs to collapse to their lowest energy state. Using newer click-hinges might make it sturdier (all of mine are quite old), and I'm also considering switching the hip/thigh joints to the Knights' Kingdom/Exo-force ones if I can find the pieces, which would definitely be able to take the weight better. Nice Job! The AT-ST looks really good, and so does the updated battle pack. Thank you! Until you said this, I forgot I had updated the BP... the original tree was rather pitiful, wasn't it? Quote
-Horizon- Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 (edited) Thank you! Until you said this, I forgot I had updated the BP... the original tree was rather pitiful, wasn't it? Yeah, it was so pathetic. Wish LEGO had done a bit better with something like yours. And really, Who takes gray tool racks out into the wilderness! (BTW your Toothbrush is awesome, My toothbrush is a lightsaber, that turns on when you click a button) Edited May 13, 2014 by lego3364 Quote
Calanon Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 This looks pretty good! However, if it's minifig-scale shouldn't it be able to have two full minifigs inside? Quote
Tereglith Posted May 14, 2014 Author Posted May 14, 2014 This looks pretty good! However, if it's minifig-scale shouldn't it be able to have two full minifigs inside? Well.... let's just say it's in scale with minifig height, but not their exceedingly great width. All of Lego's official AT-STs have only bothered to make room for one figure, so that's all I felt the need to do. There are a few creations that fit two, but they're all taller and wider than mine - the AT-ST is actually a pretty small vehicle, at only 8.6 meters in height, and I wanted my creation to reflect that. I was more worried about the exterior looking right than the interior. Quote

Brickboy123 Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 I think that this model is better than the lego models with the shape and size of the AT-ST. Nice job. =D Quote
Im a brickmaster. Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Cool, they reeeeally need to make a UCS minifigure scale one, that would be sweat. But I like yours quite a bit, especially the legs Quote
BEAVeR Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 I always like new attempts at recreating this tough vehicle in LEGO, and yours is quite succesful! the angles of the head are nicely done, and everything looks pretty sturdy, making it a pretty realistic set. Still, I have some problems with it... I think the cockpit looks too much like an actual face. There's a bit too much relief in it compared to the actual thing. Lowering that vertical tile in the middle one plate would make for an improvement. and I don't think that would be too difficult to implement. Also, the area with the cannons is off... They shouldn't be that far apart, and should be in some kind of hole. I imagine this would be more difficult to adapt, working on a 3 stud wide surface, but you could use the side panels as well. Also ,cutting down on dark grey and lowering that section a bit would look etter in my opinion. Although it might e a bit lacking in details in certain places, I still think you did a wonderful job in recreating this ultra-difficult vehicle. You executed the hardest part really well, and I appreciate the fact that is actual fit for a minifig. I hope there's mie to come! Quote
