More than a year ago I made this:

8602872442_98d8203970.jpg

It was my very first MOC coming out of my dark ages. Now, I'm working on her return. The last few months I've learned alot from looking at other people's trains, making a copy off Jayhurst Bigboy and Tony Sava's Allegheny. I was still pretty pleased with my early version of this triplex but I knew deep down that I'd need to rebuild her sooner or later to get her better. Seeing Cale's beautifull challenger and the solution for the sloped window at the front of the cabin put me to work on her, it was just the solution I needed to pull her off.

Now, it's time to reveal the Design renders, Zephyr1934 was the first to see them as I was informing about which rods I'd actually need.

There's still some changes that need to be done, like the front platform and some tubes underneath but overall she's done as far as I want her to be virtual so I've starting sorting the parts (destroyed the old version to harvest parts) and making the list of what I still need to order.

The design pictures:

she won't be build for several months though, first I'm getting the rods for 1 drivetrain in order to test everything properly and do ajustments if needed, then it's testing if she'll run in the set up I've done. After that it's redesigning the front and looking for solutions to add the bigger hoses on her belly. If all that works out I can build her. My goal is to have her done in time for Brick Mania Antwerp and that's in November so I have plenty of time to tweak her.

You'll notice that she's much sleaker than the first one I made and still she'll have a lot of power. Where the first one was powered with 2 XL motors, this one will have 4 L ones, all in the boiler. Even with this design the tender has room for 2 PF recievers and 2 PF batteries

Hello alias Barduck ,

I had you better and more easily written in Dutch , right? French does not go with me unfortunately . Next in bad English. Is your Real built Virginian 2-8-8-8-4 (photo next to the Emerald Night LEGO 10194 ) which I really like . So constructed as shown in the first screenshot ( against white background) . Or on the other screenshot ( " bluish " background)

Against the white background of the steam - boiler front is 6 wide (front gray tank range) rear 7 wide (black boiler section)

Before the " bluish " light of the steam - boiler front is 7 wide (front gray tank area)

rear 8 wide (black boiler section)

The version before the " bluish " background 8 would far better to my rather large steam engines fit BR 01 , BR 23 and my version of the Emerald Night.

The " proportions " are important to me , the three are not small :

which would then look like this about ( a faster trial for the comparative sizes )

I need facts and reliable figures . And despite WWW I find nothing .

I'm not quite following what you want/need. You can always PM me in German too, I can read it but can't reply in German (never learned to write it, but reading it isn'nt hard)

Hello alias Barduck,

you ask what I want. I wants the my locomotives in her size to each other fit. The BR 01 is my first Steam locomotive.

The original BR 01 is 23,94 meters long (= 78,543 Foot). My Lego BR 01 is approx. 70 nubs long.

The original BR 23 is 21,32 meters long (= 69,963 Foot). My Lego BR 23 is approx. 62 nubs long.

If you that after calculated agreed that size ratio the locomotives approx. to each other.

An original BR 53 would be 27.35 meters long (89.730 = Foot). At Lego corresponds that approx. 79 nubs.

For a Erie 2-8-8-8-2 have I until now the following numbers found.

Length over all : of 102 to 105 Foot ( 31,09 Meter to 32,08 Meter ) ((The numbers varying)

Original from 31.09 to 32.08 meters = about 90 to 94 nubs

Firebox : 162 X 108 Inch ( = 4,11 Meter x 2,74 Meter ) interesting numbers for the width the Lok.

Primarily is Lego a toy, for children. I can so much to build. But unfortunately not everything. But my locos should the reals difference in size if possible mirroring.

Best regards Udo

Started ordering parts and building with what I allready had in stock and found the first "mistake", forgot to forsee room for the PF cable connections of the front motors. Allready adapted it by increasing her length with 1 stud, this shouldn't be noticable once she's build.

Man, all these very large, very ambitious steam projects. Very cool. :)

I'm looking forward to seeing this take shape in real bricks. It looks like you've got a decent design all ready to go. I will be keeping an eye on your progeess.

She's nearing completion now, it's time to start fase 2 which consists in to correcting any errors in the design of the boiler, and adding extra tiles with clip where needed in order to add all the hoses (well, all is impossible but many)

credits for the design of the tender truck go to Scruffulous, used on the flatcar he designed:

Once I'm done with fase 2 I can look in to chancing the design of the front truck to add more detail there

Hello alias Burduck,

this looks very promising.

If the wheel position (normal wheel - blind wheel - blind wheel - normal wheel) more appropriate?

What are the driving characteristics? There are some my reflections. with you already reality. My congratulations it looks very good.

Best regards Udo

PS: Can you understand my request for a video? I am very curious

Hallo alias Burduck,

there's a bit less swing in curves which helps for the connection of the front pony truck and of the tender with FBBF. SHe drives nicely, had her pulling 14 standard LEGO cars (some from the old ICE train, got 5 cars like that for example) no noticable decreasement of speed in turns. She even runs so nicely I'm considering putting 4 L PF's in the Big Boy aswell instead of 4 medium ones. A video won't be up until she's 100% finished (or rather, 99%. Like Jayhursts said to me when I posted pictures of the old triplex version; a MOC is never 100% done, there's always things that can be changed)
