cimddwc Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 Hello everyone, I've had these two bridges for quite some time – originally I wanted to wait until more of the surroundings is completed and more cleaned up, bur since the former will still take some time and the latter potentially forever, well, there you are, two moveable bridges: The small one on the left is also supposed to look like a real moveable bridge – hence the non-functional gears: If you'd put enough heavy stuff in the big counterweight box, it might even be possible to open it with a Lego motor. But that wouldn't be fast enough for me when I want to open it, go through, and close it again. :) Opened: Opposite: Fixed part protruding beyond the table due to the curve (had to use a wooden board there). You also see the "socket" for the bridge into which it slides and sits firmly in place. (The yellow and black markings are mostly for me so I don't accidentally hit it...) Bridge no. 2: This one is supposed to look like a fixed bridge, but I need to be able to move it for myself, too, of course. It's handle is the mast on the left, by the way. Note that it was originally a few brick rows lower, but I needed the additional black understructure to keep it from bending down too much. And if that understructure would hang below the (imaginary) water level, it would look too odd... A worker is painting some parts with anti-corrosive paint: (Which is also the excuse for not having enough black L-shaped liftarms...) Quite dangerous to climb around there and doing silly stungs: Luckily, the train passed without hitting the ape suit guy. Opened: Solid connection for this bridge, too: The tracks just sit next to each other – thanks to its connectors, the gap is minimal, and the trains have no problem crossing them. When open, the bridge rests against the reinforced mast here, which is connected with some Technic stuff and enough studs... Note that on this side, the three-stud track gap is closed by halves of flex-track. » A few more photos on Flickr. Comments, praise, and suggestions welcome as always. :) Quote
UrbanErwin Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 Looks good, nice to see that you are still making progress with your layout can't wait for more. Quote
Hey Joe Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 Hey, I really like those bridges a lot. I also like how the street in the background goes uphill. Cheers, Joe Quote
AussieJimbo Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 (edited) Great work, cim. Nice practical solution for access around your layout. The hacked up flex track is an an interesting way to achieve the track join. I like the sloped street too. :classic: Edited August 17, 2013 by AussieJimbo Quote
LegoSjaak Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 Great work....i'm always surprised by the things people create and make, and by those great details!!! Lego in this way should be mentioned 'Art' in my opinion.....!! Quote
ronenson Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 Great bridges. I was toying around with bridges myself recently, but yours add much more detail than what I came up with. Yours inspires me to add more detail. Thanks! Quote
Hrw-Amen Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 Very nice couiple of bridges there. I like the raisng Action a lot. Quote
Wabbajack Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 (edited) This is beautiful, I surely must incorporate this in the future. Off to googling LEGO train bridges !! I took the liberty to look at your layout - simply impressing. Edited August 17, 2013 by Wabbajack Quote
Aussie BJ Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 Great bridges you'v created there. It wouldn't take much to motorise them and you could have a simple switch so if you need to enter or leave quickly you could manually lift them. Thanks for sharing and that slopped street I would love to see more on that one day over in 'CITY' Quote
cimddwc Posted August 18, 2013 Author Posted August 18, 2013 Thanks, everyone! The sloped street's topic is here. Quote

timmyc1983 Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 These bridges are amazing!!!! I will eventually need something similar in my layout, but was thinking of one I could just pick up and put back down, but this way is heaps cooler I'm going to study these photos quite a lot And your whole layout is very impressive! I look forward to further updates, happy building Quote
Dubai- Fan Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 Great construction! How long is the bridge? Quote
