VKTechnic Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 I recently got myself 4 of these tires, so I figured that it was time to try my hand at a small rock crawler. I decided that it would be drive-by-wire (no battery on board) so that I could build to the scale of the tires. Of course, there's no build without some failure, so here's the first prototype, which failed because of slipping steering pulleys. This issue was fixed in the next prototype by removing the belt altogether, but it had another issue -- not enough front axle clearance. I also didn't particularly like the way the rear links were set up, nor did I like the way the L-Motor was sitting. Third time's a charm, or so the saying goes. This time, I went to a lateral MOA (Motor On Axle) setup, and I moved the steering rack up 2 studs. This allowed me to still have a supported steering rack without it being too low to the ground. Now the question I am here to ask of you all is...what should the body be for this crawler? (Or should I leave it as a bare chassis?) Quote
LEGO Guy Bri Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 A mini 'BOSS' of course! Neat job, it looks to have good articulation Quote
VKTechnic Posted August 14, 2013 Author Posted August 14, 2013 A mini 'BOSS' of course! Neat job, it looks to have good articulation I think the chassis is a little too long for a BOSS, but I might give it a shot! Hmm...maybe interchangeable bodies is a good idea... Quote
Trawler Man Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Look good, man. I like the idea of a mini crawler! If you can pull it off in terms of scale and available parts, i think a Generation 1 ('66-'77) or 2 ('78-'79) Ford Bronco would be awesome. Quote
Kronos Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 I see you put some "headlights" on your GT-R. Looks good. Quote
VKTechnic Posted August 14, 2013 Author Posted August 14, 2013 I see you put some "headlights" on your GT-R. Looks good. Indeed I have. They block the steering though, so I had to make them removable. Will post details on the GT-R thread later today. Quote
Doc_Brown Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Sweet man! Yes you should make a mini boss! Quote
VKTechnic Posted August 15, 2013 Author Posted August 15, 2013 Honey I shrunk my BOSS! (and painted it yellow) Quote
MrNumbskull13 Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Is it only me that sees an empty little rectangle and no image? :/ Quote
VKTechnic Posted August 15, 2013 Author Posted August 15, 2013 Is it only me that sees an empty little rectangle and no image? :/ Probably just you. Try this. Quote

MrNumbskull13 Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Probably just you. Try this. Thanks! Your little boss is really awesome! Quote
VKTechnic Posted August 15, 2013 Author Posted August 15, 2013 Experimented with some photo editing, so here's another teaser. Quote

VKTechnic Posted August 16, 2013 Author Posted August 16, 2013 im just a bit tired of seeing the Boss everywhere but it's cool anyway ^^ I'm going to make another body for it that can be swapped with the BOSS. Quote
Technyk32231 Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 Will there be instructions or more detailed photos, at least for the chassis? Quote
Trawler Man Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 im just a bit tired of seeing the Boss everywhere but it's cool anyway ^^ Same here. Would love to see something cool, in terms of body. 1969-1972 Chevy K5 Blazer, maybe? Quote
Junpei Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 Yeah, well who isn't? I don't even want it anymore.. Sorry for the late comment, but that's a nice crawler. How about something model team style, maybe like this: Is it too big? Quote
VKTechnic Posted August 29, 2013 Author Posted August 29, 2013 Finishing up the project. Got 3 bodies built (Yellow BOSS from before and two new ones...). Filmed the video already, now going through editing. Body #2: Gray BOSS Body #3: Bronco-inspired truck. Quote
z3_2drive Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 Love the second body, too much BOSS going around so you have extension cables going to a battery box? Quote
VKTechnic Posted August 29, 2013 Author Posted August 29, 2013 Love the second body, too much BOSS going around so you have extension cables going to a battery box? If switches count as extension cables, then yes. My cables are all used up on my GT-R. Quote
