Lazarus Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 (edited) Hello All. This has likely been done a tone of times before but i decided to do this when i was thinking about getting the metroliner. I turned away from that just due to cost and the old loco does not look that good. This is based on the club car from the metro setup and changed to match the Passenger train. The Train base had to be made from other parts and the train base does not come in white and it needed to be white to keep the flow going though the train. As you can see from the complete set pic it matches up quite well. C&C welcome. Ta Matthew Edited August 3, 2013 by Lazarus Quote
Man with a hat Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 Nice job. It looks good. That would be a very nice expansion to the train as you showed. There actually is a white train base that came with set 7686 . It may be difficult to get though. But it would help with making the white line double at the same thickness as the original carriages. Then it would be perfect. Quote
Lazarus Posted August 3, 2013 Author Posted August 3, 2013 (edited) Ya that would do the job looks a bit rare :-P But price is not bad only a few bucks. I was looking for that but the part number must of changed. Edited August 3, 2013 by Lazarus Quote
pinioncorp Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 Complete missed opportunity. The standard base is available in white (admittedly in short supply) but the roof is completely pointless. This piece is available in the required trans-black, whereas the part you have used is not. You'd need to get 6 of those trans-clear clear hinges (which are extremely expensive) and they don't even match the colour or curvature of the roof. Quote
Lazarus Posted August 3, 2013 Author Posted August 3, 2013 OK with the white base Front one 2.0 rear 1.0 I see the issue with the windows but just tried to put those other bits in but it just dont look right. Quote
Luke_likes_Lego Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 Nice design Lazarus!! 'pinioncorp' please do me a favour and don't ever critique one of my designs LLL Quote
Lazarus Posted August 3, 2013 Author Posted August 3, 2013 OK well what pinioncorp advised looks worse so not way i am going down that road. But yes cost is put them out the window so will have to deal with Trans light blue. But i think in the end it will look good I have also dropped the upper level my a Plate that make the top bit look a bit more rounded and a consistent shape. Quote
JopieK Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 LEGO should be enticed to create a panel version of the 45411 part. The new hinges are more sturdier, but also less elegant for train designs! I like the design, I could go for an official set! Quote
Chilis Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 (edited) Looks very good! Love the overall design and the addition to the original train! The white trainbase isn`t that expensive or hard to get; http://www.ebay.com/...vectorid=229466 Brick on! Edited August 3, 2013 by Chilis Quote
timmyc1983 Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 Yeah I love this design. It suits the other carriages really well and by the looks of it you have made the interior match the old club car very well, very well adapted! I look forward to seeing it brick built, happy building Quote
Bricktrain Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 Looks good. I am doing one for the Sante Fe but am also having some hic-ups with the sunroof. Quote
pinioncorp Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 I apologise, I didn't intend to sound too critical but in my opinion I thought the part choices were sub par. This is my club car. It's your design to do with, but keep in mind the spectrum of parts available and what you're trying to achieve. Quote
legoman666 Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 (edited) Looks good. I am doing one for the Sante Fe but am also having some hic-ups with the sunroof. I tried my hands at an observation car too. Not 100% pleased. It's too big and busy. http://imgur.com/yW7onJJ,3tw5kbX,q2dq0ui Edited August 3, 2013 by legoman666 Quote
keeganp1234 Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 That a nice one. I would change the colors to Amtrak colors though. Is there any chance I could get the file? Quote

Luke_likes_Lego Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 Do we really want to take this bus to 'popularity' town? Both designs have their advantages and disadvantages, and I suspect the Eurobricks community are as grateful as I am to you both for sharing your ideas. Let's all just move forward together as mature adults. LLL PS Lazarus's design is better  Quote
Lazarus Posted August 3, 2013 Author Posted August 3, 2013 OK well had a bit more of a play and the outcome i think is getting there. Quote
dr_spock Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Looks good. I think I like your previous upper window design better. The fun is to build something within your budget. Quote
JopieK Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 That is actually even better than those hinge windows I think!! Your car is becoming better and better! This could really pass on for a real set I think. Quote
Hrw-Amen Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 This does actually look good and is something that I can see myself copying at some point in the future. I actually think my red passenger train is a little bland, but this would make more impressive and actually very nice. Thanks for showing us. Quote
ronenson Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Looks really good. I'm wondering what the inside looks like. Quote
Lazarus Posted August 5, 2013 Author Posted August 5, 2013 Inside as requested. Only flaw so far is the smaller windows have no support from the top of them so not sure it is will work out ok it should be fine for what i am using if for. And adding an extra plate height might kill the look again. Quote
ronenson Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 Nice inside. Any chance of making the roofs easily detachable? You could have the top row of windows detach together with the roof for instance. Quote
Lazarus Posted August 5, 2013 Author Posted August 5, 2013 the middle roof will only be held on by the 4 gray 1x1 bricks so it will pull off easy. The way the top window is it wont clip to all the other windows and that. Quote
