WIP MOC A6 Juggernaut

Hi guys,

After my last build (http://www.eurobrick...topic=70041&hl=) it struck me again and I started my next big MOC. I thought I share my progress every now and then.

I am working on a minifig scale A6 Jggernaut, also known as Clone Turbo Tank.

Some info about the project:

The MOC is 30% done. The rear is still without cover. You can see the underlying superstructure there.

It is missing most of the details so far, since I first build the rough shape to get the proportions right and then rebuild it including greebles and details.

It is 1,09m long. It is powered with Power functions. It features 10 in hub XL motors with 1:3 planetary gears for torque. The steering is done on 8 wheels with linear actuators.

It features some lights (interior and exterior) and it will have some retractable guns that shoot via power functions IR control.

The biggest challenge was to build a suspension that was strong enough to support the weight (I expect 40kg). I tested a few and ended up with 5 independent solid axles with 5 links - 4 longitudinal and one cross link.

Wow! it looks great so far - but maybe that's mainly because of the size? I like the wheels!

Whoa. That is absolutely amazing. Every little detail so far is amazing, and those wheels are probably my favorite part. This is the first A6 Juggernaut I've seen that has accurate sized wheels. I cant wait to see the finished product.

Impressive to say the least. Makes Lego's stock model look like a VW Beatle.

The scale of this project is beyond imagination. Putting all the power functions and detais in will make it all come together nicely. It's almost big enough to ride on, if your not too heavy.

It should be about right. On Jedipedia it says, the Juggernaut is 49m long. In Minifigscale that is about 1.1m. Depending on what you see as minifigscale.

The weight is an issue. So far it is driving well. It needs a lot of power thou. The 10 XL motors are driven by 5 big batteryboxes. With just 3 boxes there is not enough juice. But it is not ment to climb slopes anyway. I just want to make it moveable by itself. I'll post a driving video soon.

You've got my interest !!

After building my version of a CTT , I realised it was to small ( go figure , it barely fits in my car ) , and started planning a slightly bigger one . I see a lot of ideas and I think I can learn a thing or 2 of your model .

There a lot of numbers on the internet about the size of the "Juggernaught" (or CTT for short ) and in my personal opinion, I think it's still a bit small , but don't let me spoil the fun !!

Hi Saint.

You got some very nice detail on your CTT. Hope you dont mind, if I steal some ideas. :)

Regarding the size, I guess everyone has his own ideas. I found some shots from the clone wars series where it actually looks much smaller. I also found some drawings where it is much bigger. I finally tried to stick to screenshots from ROTS. I figured it matches up pretty nicely with the measurements in Jedipedia.

I have admit, I played with the idea of building my own at one time. The reason I didn't was the wheels. I couldn't figure out a way to build them and Lego doesn't make wheels big enough for the model I wanted to build.

This is what I came up with:

Each wheels would have been 300 pieces, times that by 10 wheels..........

But you solution is so simple and looks great at the same time.

I can not wait to see this finished!!

Hi,

Yes, the Wheels are a big issue. Sadly, they were not as simple to build as I had hoped, or as it looks. I gave it quite a bit of a thought. I wanted the whole thing moving, but since the load will be massive, I soon abandoned the idea of a driveshaft and decided to put the motors in the hub. The roof bricks are just right for that. Its a tight fit, but you can pit an XL motor, a planetary gear and a sort of ball bearing in there.

With all that technic on the inside the part count is also at 300. Boring to build... 10 times...

Hey there,

Here's a little update on the progress:

The cabin is coming together. The remote controlled canons under the cockpits are working and shooting. The side rocket launchers are also extendable by remote and working.

In the rear portion of the cabin is an extendable crane. There are two power functions to controll the crane: one to extend it out of the cabin and open the door and the other one to operate the winch. Still missing the hinges for the door, but it tested well.

There are now 8 pairs of LEDs. one in the cockpit, one in the sickbay, one in the radar room, two in the crew cabin, one in the crane-room and two pairs for the headlights. one pair for the rear cockpit is missing - and so is the rear cockpit. Working on the radar room behind the cockpit right now.

Bad news is that steering and the suspension are to weak. The suspension does a lot of torque steering (is that the right term?) You switch into drive and the wheels go to the side. You switch into reverse and the wheels turn to the other side. I need something more rigid. I guess, the cabin will be done before the chassis.

By the way.... I couldn't find any reference to how the Troopers enter and exit the tank. There is a staircase in the rear cabin that is labeled as "staircase to deployment hatch" in the technical drawing, which seems odd, since the hatch would be 30 feet above ground level. Does anyone have a picture of the hatch or an idea how that should work? Doesn't make a lot of sense to have them climb down a ladder...

I think a lot of confusion over the length is due to the fact that some material showing the Juggernaut is actually showing the smaller though near identical A5 model which was only 22m long compared to the larger A6 which was indeed 49m long

Hello,

I am waiting for some Bricklink orders, so I thought, I use the time and post a few pics of the progress.

Here is the overall view of the current status. The rough shape is done. Still quite a way to go. Lots of holes, most details are still missing. The chassis needs a big rework-

The command hatch on top of the cockpit:

The rear cabin. Just the rough shape for now. But the proportions are right, I think.

The main electronics compartment. 6 receivers, 6 battery boxes. In the rear cabin will be another 2 receivers and one batterybox.

The WIP of the radar room. Left and right in the rear wall are the entries to the exit hatches on the roof. Still quite a lot to do.

The storage room. Its dark in there. Only some LEDs. my camera is to weak for this. In there is the IR/C crane.

The Rocket launchers. The rails have to much friction, so the movement is not very smooth. Maybe I put a drop of grease on them... (click on the pic for the video)

I hope you like it. Any critic and feedback is welcome.

I got some issues with ageing bricks. Some are really yellowed. the surface is really patchy. I try to make the best out of it and try tom make it look weathered....

I still wonder how the clones would exit the tank. A ladder, a long ramp? Any suggestions?
