The Joker1 Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 (edited) Hello everyone and welcome to my review of this fantastic lego set. As I am a bit cut for time at the moment this is just a figure review but I will do the rest of the set later. To start off with Here is a picture of our fantastic trio of Minifigures that come in the set. 0101010101010101001010101010110# 011 by Joker 789, on Flickr To kick us off Here is my personal favorite figure of the marvel line Iron Man. 0101010101010101001010101010110# 012 by Joker 789, on Flickr And with his helmet up (happy face) 0101010101010101001010101010110# 014 by Joker 789, on Flickr And here is a darker shot with his angry face. (sorry about loki in the background ) I personally dont like his angry face it makes his moustache go too far up his face. 0101010101010101001010101010110# 017 by Joker 789, on Flickr And his beutiful back printing. 0101010101010101001010101010110# 018 by Joker 789, on Flickr Now let us move on to Hawkeye. Here is a front facing shot of him. (note all the great details on his body and legs) 0101010101010101001010101010110# 020 by Joker 789, on Flickr More great printing on the back I really like the bag of arrows printed on. 0101010101010101001010101010110# 022 by Joker 789, on Flickr This image of his alternate head makes him look rather like the newest Draco Malfoy dont you think? 0101010101010101001010101010110# 023 by Joker 789, on Flickr Here is a side shot showing off the fantastic new bow peice. 0101010101010101001010101010110# 024 by Joker 789, on Flickr And now we move onto the final figure in this great set Loki (sorry about the poor first pic) No backprinting or double sided head on hime but heres the front 0101010101010101001010101010110# 025 by Joker 789, on Flickr For those of you unsure yes the staff is just the old PQ staff and one of the old ninjago weapons put together. 0101010101010101001010101010110# 027 by Joker 789, on Flickr And to finish of the figure section of the review heres some pictures of the fantastic helmet Loki wears. 0101010101010101001010101010110# 029 by Joker 789, on Flickr 0101010101010101001010101010110# 030 by Joker 789, on Flickr My conclusion Iron man is fantastic and just as he should be the only things i dislike are his angry head and the fact his mask is slightly oversized so I give him a 8.5/10 Hawkeye is nothing special though he has great printing and a nice crossbow so he gets 8/10 And loki who is perfect with a great helmet and a nice cape looks great from the front but it would be nice to see some backprinting. However I am very dissapointed at the reuse of the Lex Louther head. so i can only give him a 7/10 I hope you have enjoyed this section of the review I will be back very soon with the rest. Edit Hi everybody as promised i am back with the rest of the review. The Jeep is the main part of this set so I have taken a fair amount of pictures includeing some comparison shots. (note the missing peice ) To start off with here are some shots of it at different angles. Lego Marvel 002 by Joker 789, on Flickr Lego Marvel 003 by Joker 789, on Flickr It is certanly a nice truck with lots of muscle on it. However biulding it was not so nice it is simply tedious with loads of pages adding just one brick it is soooo frustrating Lego Marvel 001 by Joker 789, on Flickr Now as we all know LEGO have attemptd to give us more play features in these marvel sets. In this particular set the play feature is being able to catapult loki into the air. Unfortunately this has failed quite badly. Lego Marvel 004 by Joker 789, on Flickr Lego Marvel 005 by Joker 789, on Flickr All it does is make loki tilt a bit and just look awkward. And the other problem i have found with this set is the doors dont open when the missiles are down. Lego Marvel 006 by Joker 789, on Flickr So lets see how it compares to legos recent trucks and Jeeps It is clearly the longest and widest of the three but is it worth the £10 more than the city set? Lego Marvel 007 by Joker 789, on Flickr Lego Marvel 008 by Joker 789, on Flickr In my opinion it is the best of the three simply beceuse of its bulkiness and imposing looks. One thing I found strange about this set is the fact that Hawkeye clips his crossbow on the side of the Jeep it certanly isnt film accurate and just looks strange. Now to finish off I know some people are wondering why loki nhas to get hawkeye to drive the truck well here is your awnser. Lego Marvel 011 by Joker 789, on Flickr Lego Marvel 012 by Joker 789, on Flickr So to conclude the reveiw I think this set is fantastic simply beceuse of the price and the great figures. I don like the tedious instructions or the stickers but i can get over them. I give this set. 10/10 For price as it is simply a steal. 8/10 for figures as all three are brilliant but its a shame they all come in other sets alwell. 6/10 for biuld as it is slow and fairly boring. 7/10 for parts as their is nothing really unusual but their is a nice mix. 7/10 for playability as it is fun to drice about and to have Iron Man chase it but the only play feature doesnt work. so overall i give it a 38/50 It is a great set at a great price and i would certany recommend it to anyone. it truely is brilliant. The Joker1 Posted April 4, 2012 Author Posted April 4, 2012 (edited) Arg why do people keep calling it a crossbow? Sorry I was just using the name I have called it by. If you let me know the correct name for it I will change it. Edited April 4, 2012 by The Joker1 Quote
deskp Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 (edited) Sorry I was just using the name I have called it by. If you let me know the correct name for it I will change it. Pretty sure it's just a bow or bow and arrow, of the modern kind. And btw, the staff isn't the POP dagger of time, its ninjago weapon I can't remember the name of atm. Anyways, nice seeing more images of the minifigs! Edited April 4, 2012 by deskp Quote

BasOne Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 (edited) I don't like the Ironman figure, sure it's nice to have a face and a flip up visor, but his head is just to cartoonishly large. Just look at that. And it would be easy to remedy, 2 solutions i found on the net that TLC should have used. Bigger body/extra armour by PEDRO-79 Or A painted head. Gryphon Ink Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 I don't like the Ironman figure, sure it's nice to have a face and a flip up visor, but his head is just to cartoonishly large. I totally agree. His head is as big as his torso! I know minifigs aren't exactly anatomically correct or even roughly proportionate, but this just looks silly. It's such a gimmick, too. Iron Man has no more reason to have a lift-away faceplate than any other hero. Batman and Catwoman both revealed their identities multiple times in the comics and the movies, but neither one of their minifigs has this kind of silliness. The Batman minifig is made in such a way that you really CAN'T pose him with his cowl off. Loki's helmet horns are also oversized, although not quite as bad. Quote

danim Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 or why not put a modified space marine armour on him of course you would need to paint it but I think it works quite well Quote

M'Kyuun Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 Thanks for the review of these figs, Joker1. I have to agree that "Old Shellhead's" helmet is just a tad too large...it just doesn't look right. I wonder if TLG could have used the regular helmet and made an Iron Man face mask that could attach to the existing pivot points, similar to the various Knights' masks. At least it would look somewhat proportional. Normally I'm all in favor of TLG's making these various accessories very detailed; in this case, it stands out too much. There are examples of better fitting fan-made Iron Man helmets on the net, which only makes the official version look that much more out of place. Looking forward to the rest of the review. Quote
Oky Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 Or why not put a modified space marine armour on him? Uhm, because Iron Man doesn't have a giant collar, bulky shoulder pads, and a jetpack. Perhaps one of his suits does, but not his regular one. I think he's fine as he is. Quote
Piranha Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 Thanks for the review. It is a pretty decent set, although some S.H.I.E.L.D Agents or Troopers would have been nicer than a repeat Hawkeye. That is assuming they could be thrown in as random figs. I wonder what the Cosmic Cube is anyway (?). I myself think the helmet for Iron Man looks fine. Overall I would rate this set at 7/10. Quote

I think he's fine as he is. That is why I said it would have to be modified such as the collar being removed, then the rear would be smootheed down to just have a plain back. Then remove the single stud on the front and cut a small triangle out from it for Stark's chest Plate then paint it. Also I do not think the shoulder pads are to big for Iron Man as every photo I have seen from the Avengers movie they do look quite large http://www.superrobotmayhem.com/comic-book-movies/avengers/iron-man-mark-7/ Quote

(the rest of the review is all ready and will be posted tonight when I get my camera back from repair) Edited April 5, 2012 by The Joker1 Quote
deskp Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 Obviusly (imo) the hockey player mold is better than space marine mold for adding to iron man. Must say I think he looks great as is! Quote
hjmediastudios Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 Personally, i used to hate Iron Man's helmet, but now that I'm seeing better pictures of it, he's sort of growing on me. Th head is large, but I think that fits with the Lego aesthetic. Quote
The Joker1 Posted April 5, 2012 Author Posted April 5, 2012 (edited) Just to let you all know the review is now finished. Could a MOD please edit the title to say it is done. Edited April 5, 2012 by The Joker1 Quote
just2good Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 Nice review, 'The Joker1'! Every time I read a review of this set, I just want it more. Why can't the Marvel sets just come to Florida retailers already! Quote

I am supprised they are not over there in Florida yet I thought your part of the globe got them quicker than here in the England. Quote
TheLegoDr Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 Thanks for the review. I can't wait to pick this set up. I really like the first modded Iron Man that BasOne showed. The armor is sleek enough to work! TLG are you taking notes? Anyway, the new giant helmet is growing on me. I think in the trailer they show Loki without this helmet during this scene, so they could have included hair, but I like getting multiples of this gold helmet. Quote
Gryphon Ink Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 What? Why wouldnt Ironman have a lift up faceplate...he does in the movie, so why wouldn't he here? Because (in my opinion) it makes his head too big. Minifig design shouldn't be compromised in an effort to capture a nonessential play feature. I understand that there are plenty of people who think he looks fine, and I'm totally okay with that. I personally think it looks silly and out of place in the superhero lineup. Quote
