The last two larger castles released by Lego included Vladek's Dark Castle (8877) released in 2005, and the Royal King's Castle (10176) released in 2006

Both castles were the same price ($100 in the U.S). Which castle do you like better? Share your thoughts.

8877. Because I own it. It's great fun to build and looks very cool on a high shelf. There's also lots of things inside, and it can be either a wall or a squarish castle.

I don't own the other, but I still think I'd prefer VDF. I enjoy these little set contest polls, keep them coming. *sweet*

I voted for Kings Royal Castle. It's a kit that really seems to be bringing the old castle back to life, since it has tons of great details, minifigs, and weapons, and overall looks just like what it should look like: a castle. Not to mentions great pieces like black stone castle walls and blue corner pieces abound. ;-)

I really like Vladek's Dark Fortress as well, but since I don't have either of the kits, my opinion was based on what I've seen in rewiews and picturs, plus looking at the boxes and instructions. ;-)

10176 has good figs... plus the two large swords and large helmet on the 8877 look too *wacko* and 10176 has a better overall shape. thought, i admit, i have neither ;-)

this seems like a strange poll, what is the motive Brickster ??? trying to decide between the two to purchase ???

I voted for Vladek's Castle.

It's really evil, with good armory, and many details. My son and I, had a lot of fun, both building and playing with it.

I allways thought that 10177 vas a bad re-release.

If you make a such, release the original (and further more, they made it (pardon my french) f....... BLEY!!!).

Although I wish Vladek's Dark Fortress came with a baseplate of some degree to make it more stable, I'd still rank it higher, although I'm biased because I only have one of them. I do think the KK2.3 armor in the Royal King's Castle looks out of place, though, and the mountainous baseplate makes it less structurally realistic than Vladek's ... Plus, staging a battle is a bit hard with only one faction in the set.

Unless there are traitors.

No, actually I own Vladek's Fortress and plan to buy 10176. Since both sets are around the same size and price, I was curious as to what people prefer, newer KK style castles, or older Classic style. I like Legend sets (although 10176 is a modified design). I like to create "face-offs between sets". Generally, I own sets that I feature in polls (at least most of the time).

i can't believe the dark fortress is winning !!!

I think it's because of the overall dark/black look of the fortress. I had a feeling it would be more popular than the King's Castle.

but i thought AFOL didn't like the "jellys" ??? i guess we are rating the castle, not the set here.

Would someone help me getting 10176?? :'-(

I voted this because, even if I don't have official but have the MOC one, it's great, excellent, and Vladek's Dark Fortress is also a really great step up for KK line, so functional, so fun but so kid-ish, and even 100176 it's also very kid-ish, it's more a classic one.

I voted for the 8877 Vladek's fortress because it looks better IMO. The 10176, the revival of a legend *wacko* ! This is not a CC for me, but a new Morcia castle! We find too many pieces from too many different universes (lion symbol, KK helmet, wizard like in the old good time, a dog!) that give it an unfinished look, even if we find some nice touches like the armory office and the chamber with the squeleton.

The Vladek's fortress have a bette look, more finished, even if I'm not found of those big swords and helmet. And it gives the impression to have a real story, with a well done universe.

I just want to add that I have none of them...

i agree, it's no legend, but that doesn't mean it's not better ;-)

it has taken the lead !!!

Even thought I don't have Vladeks Castle, I still think it looks cooler than the Royal Castle. I have the Roylae Castle, and even though it is cool and fun, the playability is not there. It is not part of a theme, so there are no oher figures to play with. It is more for display that playing.

Well, it appears that this was a pretty close poll, but the King's Castle seems to have taken the win. Both sets are definately the better castles that we've seen in the past few years.

I agree, in the past few years both sets are the better castles :)

I have chosen 10176 for two reasons.

First, it reminds me a bit the classic sets.

Second, I don’t like the 8877 multi-colored soldiers… they remind me some sort of power-rangers with big swords :-/
