A new version of LDD (4.2.5) was released today, January 18th. I just downloaded it. As expected, the main difference to the previous version (4.1.8) is the removal of DbM and LEGO Universe. The DbM and Universe palettes have been replaced by a LDD palette and the Extended Mode palette. This means that there is no longer any need to manually activate Extended Mode - it's there out of the box.

There are no new features compared to the previous version. On the other hand, a huge amount of new bricks have been added, along with new decorations and several brick bug fixes. I got a mail from Martin over at the LDD team who has compiled a "What's new" list specially for us hardcore LDD users - thanks for that Martin - and here are some stats for 4.2.5 (brickset version 604):

New bricks:

2507, 3482, 3711, 3960, 4474, 4740, 6573, 10201, 11055, 47330, 47998, 53445, 53551, 54654, 55704, 56630, 56908, 57999, 58118, 60803, 60902, 62537, 64804, 72039, 72454, 72475, 74698, 74968, 76766, 76768, 85557, 85558, 85959, 85974, 87585, 87794, 87805, 87808, 87812, 87814, 87841, 89201, 90634, 91176, 92088, 92092, 92230, 92231, 92259, 92279, 92402, 92709, 92712, 92906, 92912, 93140, 93274, 93587, 93590, 93591, 93593, 93594, 93595, 93597, 93598, 93604, 93606, 94148, 94161, 95052, 95053, 95054, 95109, 95198, 95199, 95200, 95202, 95203, 95204, 95227, 95228, 95229, 95292, 95319, 95343, 95344, 95347, 95350, 95351, 95674, 95820, 96858, 96859, 96874, 96904, 96905, 96906, 96907, 96910, 97492, 97895, 97927, 98011, 98072, 98085, 98087, 98089, 98100, 98128, 98129, 98130, 98132, 98133, 98134, 98135, 98136, 98137, 98138, 98139, 98141, 98143, 98147, 98153, 98263, 98279, 98280, 98281, 98282, 98283, 98284, 98285, 98286, 98287, 98288, 98313, 98342, 98347, 98365, 98366, 98367, 98370, 98371, 98372, 98373, 98376, 98377, 98378, 98379, 98381, 98383, 98384, 98385, 98386, 98496, 98549, 98562, 98563, 98564, 98566, 98567, 98568, 98569, 98570, 98571, 98573, 98574, 98575, 98585, 98608, 98721, 98722, 98723, 98725, 98726, 98729, 99061, 99207, 99253, 99780, 99784, 99809, 99930, 601948

Personally, I think it's great to see all the work that is going on with LDD behind the scenes at TLG. With this amount of new bricks and bug fixes, there seems no doubt that TLG is supporting LDD all the way.

Thanks for this detailed report.

I add a link to the recent brick requests. Click.

Very happy about the introduction on some pieces (2507 will allow me to post a set I've built some time ago), but unfortunately the great part of pieces I desired is missing.

Among those, I hoped in the return of the panel 4737 (available in LDD3), the introduction of the hinge plate 3149c01 and the introduction of a great number of old raised baseplates.

What about the addition of a greater number of decorations?

Thanks for posting the link. A super quick cross-check shows that many of the bricks we asked for have been added.

That the panel 4737 is not there I understand is quite annoying. I've been told it is in the TLG system database, it just for some reason doesn't will not go into LDD DB.lif file. From what I understand it's beging investigated, but unfortunately with a low priority.

Regarding decorations, I guess we have to find out out by the old click-and-watch method

Would it be an idea to mark on the topic that Calaber posted above (The requsted parts topic)with a mark beside it to indicate weather it has been added or not with images of the parts to tell new/users in advance?

Just got it working after an initial fail to open LXF's (a warning told me to reinstall - after closing the program and reopening it, it worked OK).

Initial observations: I am very glad that the RC Train wheel is back  ! Be aware: it has a different number now (57999 vice former 55423). This will not help the less experienced and forces users to amend all their LXFs with this wheel in it. :hmpf_bad:

Also the much missed chainlink 3711 is back. Now start checking if it works OK.....

Finally, I sincerely agree with Superkalle to thank Martin from TLG on providing him with a What-is-new-List. Thanks Superkalle, for sharing!

Fantastic, having a good old play with it now! I've got a whole bunch of official sets not uploaded which can be better finished off with some of these parts. It's great to see TLG supporting LDD beyond DbM and let's hope that relationship continues for a good long time to come.

I'm very pleased to see TLG has come with a new version of LDD :classic:

However, do we know if any parts has been deleted since the previous version?

The new LDD.LEGO.com is very nice and shiny. I love how the "Get Inspired" block has a LEGO Nyancat as an example.

Downloading the new patch now. Can't wait to start building!

No parts deleted.

One has been replaced though: 74695 is replaced by 60483. Any LXF that has 74695 in it, will automatically be replaced with 60483

I added the new bricks in LDD Manager (a new version is due soon), and managed to generate the following LXF. For some reason it only has 179 bricks, when it should be 183.

I also noticed the 54654 Plane End in the file, and as far as I know it was in 4.1.8 too. But it does now have the possibility to multicolor it. Besides that a lot of new nice bricks. Like this: 99207. Haven't seen that before.

Also - check out the new train wheels: 85557 and 85558. Sweet!

Download LXF below.

oh YAAY! Finally I can stop having to click "no" do not update.

My pieces are back! From the bottom of my heart, thank you TLG for supporting LDD so so well.

On a side note, Sjuip mentioned that you have to append old LXFs to get the train wheel to load. Are there any other pieces that have changed numbers that will cause this problem? And also is there a tutorial somewhere on how to go about appending an LXF (legal?). I feel a little embarrassed and out of the loop for asking. I've had a micro LDD-dark age.

And here is a LXF file with all the fixed bugs.

If you see any of these that you reported it'd be intresting to know :classic:

Also, if you see any fixes that will now enable you to update an official set, please do so. Calabar has to fill in on the procedures for this, but I guess updating your post the Official Sets topic is a good start.

EDIT: @Aliewar9. I don't know about the thing Sjuip mentioned. He has to explain I guess :classic:

Thanks Superkalle.

Damn... I saw pieces 98285 and 98286, and I thought are good for replacing the missing 3149c01.

Unfortunately the assembly is very different, it is 3 plates hight instead than 2.

Yeah, I heard that the reason it is 3 high, is because it can then use a standard Technic pin, and then designers can easily chose to make it with or without friction depending on pin used. So I guess we pay for that one plate extra height with increased versatility.

Well strange how they make certain parts in certain colors in LDD-mode. We could only hope they would bring out such a pieces in those colors some day. It is too slow on my laptop b.t.w. (Macbook Pro, Core 2 Duo, 4 Gb internal mem).

For the rest, I enjoy all those new parts!
