Introducing Bricksterdam

Recommended Posts

indexed.gif Layout

Recently i have put all my modular buildings together and made twee streets with it. I made pictures of them and i would like to share these with you.

The city is called Bricksterdam and will the two full blocks. Each blok will be about 5 modulars long (2 corner buildings and 3 large buildings between them, of 6 small ones). The total will be 32 modulars.

It is still WIP and not all building shown are ready. The still need some modifications, or extra parts, but i wanted to share it with you on this forum.

lego_112.jpg

In the front you see the city tram. I believe i saw it on Brickshelf and wished to include it in my town. I had to modify it, because the original was 8 studs wide and i wished it to be 6 wide. When it was finished i was very pleased with it.

lego_027.jpg

The tram tracks are a part of the square in front of a railway station. It will be a modular rebuild of the old Metro Station. Witch collors i will use on the station is not yet decided. The train in the station is already finished (exept 1 wagon, with is almost ready). It will be Ben Beneke's beautiful Bavarian S3/6 with 3 Orient Express carriges.

lego_154.jpg

The street in front of the station will be Station Street (not very original but convinient) I wil use the old light gray road base plates for it.

The first side street (witch will be eventualy the middle one) will be Jamie Berard Avenue, in honour of the inventer of the Lego Modulars. On one side of the street there will be the official Lego Modulars (CC, GG, FB, GE and very soon PS)

lego_115.jpg

The other side will be made of non official lego modulars.

lego_114.jpg

The corner house is a Candy Shop. It is my adaptation of Jasper Joppe Geers beautiful and inspiring Elladora's Sweet Shop. Thanks Jasper. It it not finished, the roof still needs work. :oh:

lego_002.jpg

Next to it is a Flower Shop. It was the first modular i tried th build. I have seen it on Flicker and loved it very much. Because of the collors i tried to rebuild it as closely to the original as i could, but later on i began the use my own imagination. I learned a lot of building skills with this one. The result is very pleasing. It needs just a few more stones and wil be finished very shortly i hope.

lego_018.jpg

Next to the flower shop are two small buildings (Pet Shop style). It is my own modular rebuild of the Lego City Corner. I have introduced this one in a earlier posting. They were the first building i made from scratch and i am very pleased with the result. The first on is the Pizza shop and the other the bycicle repair shop.

lego_136_resized.jpg

Next is a Brown Cafe. Again it's a building i've seen on Flicker. I believe it from the same builder as the yellow flower shop. This was the second building i tried to recreate and made more ajustments to it than the first. This one need some more interior work.

lego_082.jpg

Then there will be a corner building. I have just started with this one. I am using the brick i already have and buy on Brickshelf the others. But bricks can be exspencive and are sometimes very hard to find. I think everybody here will have his own exspirience with that. Try to find one seller with all the bricks you need!! Imposible.

The corner building will be a Sushi Bar. It has a little bit of Ninjago tast to it. It's in a very early stage, but here it is ( i am not very happy with the Palm trees and replaced them with green Bushes).

lego_1_035.jpg

An other project i am working on is Sonicstarlights Medevil Market Village Pub. Also one of the beautiful Buildings seen on this forum. I loved it so much, i had to inculde it in my town. This also need al lot of work, but it's getting along. Thanks Sonicstarlight. You to have inspired me to began building again.

lego_013.jpg

There is one more (small 16 studs) building that is onder construction. It is a Ice Cream Parlor. The foto's i had made were not fit for publication en wil be made public soon. You can see it in the town, it is next to the Sweet Shop on Station Street.

I hope you liked the tour. I wil update this topic as i progress with my building.

P.S.

More pictures can bee seen on my Brickshelf account.

Your Bricksterdam looks excellent. I really love your yellow building (the flower shop), it is really beautiful.

I also love the corner building you have done.

If you click on the picture in your brickshelf album, to the page with the image only (and no brickshelf stuff on the page), it should work. (It will have a .jpg ending)

So for your yellow building, if you post the address within the image tags... for example: [img*]http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/ger5664/Flowershop/lego_018.jpg[/img] (delete the asterisk)and hopefully your image will post.

The only problem will be the size (you need someone smarter than me to help with that).

I must say, i'm flabbergasted! Well done so far on the Sweet Shop!

It is the first well executed copy i've seen from the original,

If i'm right you've done some interior as well?

The other buildings look familiar to me as well,

some remind me of Marcos Bessa's work... I could be wrong here..

And, i'm not Jesse... :) Jasper Joppe it is...

Cheers!

JJ

Some very nice work here - in particular your café stands out to me. And the tram is very well made. Good job!

I changed your name, sorry about that. Should have done my research better.

And Yes, i believe some of Marcos Bessa's creations were my source off inspiration. I believe the Brown Cafe and Flower Shop are his.

Thanks for the complement and keep inspiring guys like me.

Yes i have made an interieur in my sweet shop. just take a look:

If you upload them to Photobucket you can set it so they all upload as a more manageable size, I always do 640x480. Then you can just copy and paste the image code from Photobucket.

I love that tram BTW. That SNOT front end is great, and the controls behind it. It looks like the front of my Seagrave fire truck.

Some really great buildings there! Your pictures are killing my internets though, I recommend resizing them otherwise I suspect that the hand of Mod will be coming down on you soon...

Whenever I've been to Amsterdam I've always thought that the houses there, with their characteristic steps and gables, would make brilliant modulat projects - you've done a great job in capturing some of the spirit of the city here - such a shame it is so hard to depict canals unless you have a lot of bricks to raise everything else up!

We have some nice tutorials to aid you in the resizing process. Links are in my signature.

Please hurry, as we don't want pages to load for decades. Especially people with slower connections or mobile devices have trouble with images of this size.

Already thanks!

Hi

i have to agree with Mr Benn, anyway if this is Amstedam, Bricksterdam or whatever a Nice Dutch city, water is missing. I have benn worked in Leiden and Amsterdam as well and canals and bridges would be the first i am going to build.

Anyway, the yellow house tops a lot, very detailed and tasteful.

My city is a more international kind of town. You can see the typical North-Amarican Firebrigade and Grand Emporium and the more German oriented Green Grocer. My Candy Shop could easely been seen somewhere in Switserland and the Brown Cafe in France. As you can see Bricksterdam is a Cosmopolytan city. As i write this, i am worken on a Sushi Bar, with will be as Japanese as posible. A Medevil Market Pub wil be German or Austrian.

As i build on i wil try to find even more typical house from other countries. I have seen a MOC by a Spanish builder en loved it. That one is on my wanted list.

Here is an update on Bricksterdam.

I have been working on Station Street. The Tramtracks have been replaced and gravel placed between the tracks. Trees have been added and some fancy streetlanterns. There is a stage on wich a band is playing. It still needs some work, but there is progress.

lego_305_bricksterdam_020.jpg

Disco Dude has been listening to the band for some time, but is now waiting for the tram to the nearest Disco to dance the night away.

lego_312_bricksterdam_026.jpg

The Sushi restaurant is also progressing. The first floor is almost finished and madam Butterfly is tending to her costumers.

Very nice work 'TDG'. Your modular city is very elegant. The buildings are great and I love the trolley. What are the current dimensions? Keep up the fine work default_classic.gif

After i introduced to you my MOC and MOD Modulars it is time to Update my topic om Bricksterdam. I made new foto's and would like to do someting diferent this time. I would like to take you on a stroll through my town. I hope you like to come along with me.

Bricksterdam has three streets at this moment, Station Straat, J.Berard Avenue and Rathausstrasse (more are planned). Bricksterdam is an international town, is has buildings from all over the world and therefor street names from all over the world.

Lets start in Rathaustrasse. The first building we pas is Medevil Market Pub, a pub, with a Gentlemansclub on the first and second floor.

opbouw_bricksterdam_052.jpg

Next to this is the Sushi Bar, a Sushi restaurant, a Judo dojo, and Uncle Festers Wax museum.

opbouw_bricksterdam_022.jpg

The two next to each other.

opbouw_bricksterdam_080.jpg

On the other side of J.Berard Avenue is the Cafe Corner, with a Hotel on the first en second floor.

opbouw_bricksterdam_007.jpg

All three together.

Looking from the other side.

Rathausstrasse wil be extended in both directions. Next to the Medevil Market Pub wil be build a Butchershop and an other building from Sonicstarlights three buildings. Next to the CC will be placed the Town Hall and, if money allows it, Market Street (With an extra floor on top of the market part as seen in the city made by CasterTroy)

The Butchershop is well under way en looks at this moment like this.

opbouw_bricksterdam_468.jpg

Lets turn the corner and stroll down J. Berard Avenue. Next to the Sushi Bar we find a Brown Cafe.

I hope you enjoyed strolling along with me through my town. As time passes more buildings wil be included. A Forth Road Baseplate for Station Straat is already Completed and include a Fruitstand next to the Bandstand. The Road baseplate that will be the crossing of J.Berard Avenue and Rathausstrasse is ready to. As soon as some more buildings are completed (Town Hall, etc.) is will do an other update. Very nice, seeing everything put together. Could not wait for this. :) Everything is very colourful but still both realistic and LEGOish :classic:

Are you planning for brickbuilt streets or do you want to leave it like that?
