Quarryman Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 Created for Round 3 of the MocOlympics currently taking place on MOCpages.com, in which me and my opponent were tasked with building something that fit the quote "I am your father!" And after some frustrating days trying to come up with something funny for this category I ended up turning to mythology, and clearly the one mythological person with the most interesting children is Loki, father of Fenrir the wolf, Hel queen of the realm of the same name (the viking version of Hell), and the humongous Midgard serpent who could curl around the entire world and bite his own tail. So I decided to build the Midgard serpent, or Jörmungandr as he's also called. The bottom of his jaw is a bit of homage to TLG's model of the same creature, the serpent head from 7018 . The full set of photos on Flickr. And some closing words, this became one of those "anticlimax MOCs", I'm sure you've all had them, you start out with something you feel is a great idea, and it's looking pretty good for most of the time, until it all falls flat in the end and you're really unhappy when it's finally posted. If this hadn't been a contest entry I don't think I would have posted it in its current state. And in case anyone's wondering, I didn't make it to Round 4, as Etzel put it: "beaten by bible-fanatic child abuser" Quote
Etzel Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 And in case anyone's wondering, I didn't make it to Round 4, as Etzel put it: "beaten by bible-fanatic child abuser" It was an outrageous decision by the judges! I will begin with praising the crown, I'm sure a lot of trial and error went before the final outcome I think you chose a great theme for your MOC, Nordic mythology is the coolest! But something I've wondered since I first saw this MOC is how does Loki look up close? Quote
Quarryman Posted October 22, 2011 Author Posted October 22, 2011 But something I've wondered since I first saw this MOC is how does Loki look up close? I'll see if I have some pictures of him too once I get home tonight. Or I'll take a couple of new shots of him. Quote
Cecilie Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 It was an outrageous decision by the judges! I gotta say I do agree with that . Your contestant had some pretty looking builds that clearly hypnotized the judges, but his ideas were really no good. I really liked your serpent, and I think you could have won it with just a few improvements on the environment around it (especially the water could have used some more work ). And your idea of using Norse mythology was awesome . Better luck next year , unless I decide to enter next year and you become my opponent . Quote

And your idea of using Norse mythology was awesome . Absolutely, the water and the cliff were way too simplistic and poorly designed. That's the main part of the anticlimax I experienced when finished with this MOC actually. Better luck next year , unless I decide to enter next year and you become my opponent . In that case I'll just bribe your husband to make sure you don't have time to build, or failing that, make sure that your builds have unforeseen "accidents" Quote

LandShark Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 We don't see nearly enough Viking MOCs, let along ones this amazing. Jörmungandr is great, very clever use of parts. The cliffside looks really nice, too. Great work. Quote
Wout Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 He looks very good and also a bit: "Wut? You're my father?" Quote
