timslegos Posted August 6, 2011 Posted August 6, 2011 (edited) Hello, I got my 8043 in the mail the other day and i was super excited . I built the excavator while "doing summer homework" haha, but it was mostly building. After building the set, I decided that it needed some modifications. For the body, I filled in the holes, and made it look more realistic. Next, for the functions, i changed the placement of the bracket that connects the boom to the LA's. That way the boom can actually dig below grade. Another change was in the swing of the arm. The arm extended farther out than necessary so i changed the attachment of the LA bracket so that the arm comes closer to the body of the excavator. Also, i modified the last part of the arm so that the bucket has a better range of movement and also the ability to interchange attachments easier. Finally, i build a few attachments ; including a ripper attachment, a compacter attachment, and a regular bucket. More can be seen in my brickshelf gallery Hope you like it! tim Edited August 6, 2011 by timr Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted August 6, 2011 Posted August 6, 2011 (edited) The changes you made are great ,i have an idea for you if you have an micro motor and a spare small pf motor or 2 small pf motors and a receiver you could change the slew to one of the small pf motors made make that ditch bucket that you made into a tilting bucket or you could biuld one of these : Edited August 11, 2011 by Alasdair Ryan Quote
timslegos Posted August 7, 2011 Author Posted August 7, 2011 make that ditch bucket that you made into a tilting bucket or you could biuld one of these : Ya that is a great idea and i was actually thinking of doing that. i have actually made a tilting bucket before for a previous excavator but it was pneumatic. A problem i could for-see is that if a attachment needs power, there really isn't a way to add another U joint into the arm and run axles from the excavator body because there just inst enough room. tim Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 well you could use a micro motor on the attachment and mayby have a small pf mounted in the dipper. Quote
timslegos Posted August 7, 2011 Author Posted August 7, 2011 well you could use a micro motor on the attachment and mayby have a small pf mounted in the dipper. Unfortunately i do not have a micro motor nor do i have $30 to spend on buying one . I have also looked at mounting a pf medium in the arm and i don't think there is any room there either. tim Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 (edited) Well that a shame, if you are up to it you could redesign the whole upper section and a new arm. But you will need at least 1 receiver and 2 small pf motor,I just checked bricklink and there was a micromoter in the usa without the 2 side parts and the pulley for $20 for those in the uk you can pick one up for £10 (untested) bricklink mini motor prices Edited August 7, 2011 by Alasdair Ryan Quote
timslegos Posted August 7, 2011 Author Posted August 7, 2011 Hmmmm that is pretty cheap. maybe i will search around and see if i can find it cheaper. Do you have the set? tim Quote
