Brickdoctor Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 I always liked 5-wide vehicles, I loved the Army Men from Toy Story, and the frame I had sitting on my table with Legohaulic's Steering Technique was pure fun to play with. This mod of 7595 is only the logical result. The steering system did necessitate some changes to the Jeep. Notably the 3-wide wheel wells and raising up of the whole chassis a bit. The decision to go 5-wide with this vehicle was mostly personal preference, and I originally wasn't going to do it because I don't have a ton of green plates in odd-numbered dimensions. After I did a 4-wide prototype, however, the Jeep just looked too elongated. Making it a stud wider solved that. One of the benefits of going wider is that the Jeep will now comfortably seat multiple soldiers or (as pictured) a soldier and gear in/on the back. It still can't seat a second minifig in the front, though. Finished July 2011. Also on flickr. Thanks for looking; C&C welcome. Quote
sputnik16 Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 (edited) Amazing. I love the steering feature Edited July 5, 2011 by sputnik16 Quote
Hoboman Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 I think this Jeep turned out nice. It is fun to play with the existing items some times and see how to make changes. Well Done. Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 The steering mechanism is quite a significant mod on the TS Army Jeep, the 5-stud width is simply the icing to the cake. Very well done Doc! Quote
lightningtiger Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 Excellent 5 wide vehicle 'Brick Doctor' .....nice Jeep....or is that a Peep. Brick On ! Quote
Brickdoctor Posted July 8, 2011 Author Posted July 8, 2011 It is fun to play with the existing items some times and see how to make changes. Indeed. Though sometimes I get carried away with mods. I started to build this one in SNOT before remembering that my goal was to mod the set, and the set was a basic studs-up vehicle. The steering mechanism is quite a significant mod on the TS Army Jeep, the 5-stud width is simply the icing to the cake. Very well done Doc! Thanks. I do love this steering mechanism for military vehicles, because it's a lot of fun to drive around and the tilting doesn't seem irrealistic. Excellent 5 wide vehicle 'Brick Doctor' .....nice Jeep....or is that a Peep. [snip] Brick On ! Not sure. Though I don't really care what it's called if it isn't Star Wars. (because if it is, I'm a stickler for accuracy and canonicity) Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 Amazing suspension & steering system! I like this 5 studs format! Quote
brickmack Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 Awesome jeep Brickdoctor. I love the steering feature (Though it would be cooler if there was some way to make it work with the steering wheel at this scale). I think it might need some more tiling on the back, that part looks a bit rough. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted July 11, 2011 Author Posted July 11, 2011 I think it might need some more tiling on the back, that part looks a bit rough. Perhaps. This is a mod, not an MOC, so I tried to stay as close as possible to the official design. That and I needed to create space for the wheels to turn. The official set has 3-wide wheel wells for the front wheels, but the back wheel wells are only 2-wide, so that had to be changed. Quote
