Siercon and Coral Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 (edited) We’ve been anxious to share with you all our compound bow. It’s hard creating minifigure sized weapons, but we are particularly fond of how this one turned out. Hope you like it and feel free to make your own! We would love to see these catch on. The compound bow is made from six separate pieces and matches the size of the new elven bow produced by Lego. AND if you tweak it just right it can even FIRE the loaded arrows!! Here several Forestmen Sharpshooters ambush a scouting party sent by the tyrannical Lion Kingdom. We tried to show the different uses of the bow as well as a close up comparison. Minifigs can sling the bows across their backs, draw them back to fire, and more. Hope you all enjoy :D And like most everything we do we like making lots of them! :) I think its the Brikwars in us... Edited June 7, 2011 by Rufus Indexed Quote

Brickdoctor Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 This is just genius. I was concerned that such a design would appear too thick upon seeing the comparison betweeen the custom and the elven bows, but they look just right. Great work. Now I have to get some of those zipline handles so I can try this. Quote
CorneliusMurdock Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Very, very cool! Love the shot, too, of the knight with an arrow sticking out of the helmet. Those zip-line pieces will probably start disappearing off of Bricklink just because of people making these. How well does the thing actually shoot? Better or worse than flick-fire? Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Wow, ingenious indeed - to the truest sense of the word. Slightly thick for a minifig but the design and functionality more than compensates for the thickness. I'm curious to know what type of rubber band did you use? The standard one from the sets? Quote
Gabe Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 (edited) This is just so awesome, omg. I tried making a compound bow last year but this is way, way better than my effort. I'm going to have to build an archery range just so i can try out the firing mechanism on this baby! ps. Are you guys archers by any chance? I've never seen anyone else try to make a compound bow before, and it's such a realistic model that you've made. Edited June 7, 2011 by gabe Quote
Brig. Brick Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 great idea. remember that the compound bow is for long distance so, you made a pre-artillery units, great Quote
ziljin Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Absolutely amazing. I am jealous of your forestmen army. Quote
DaleDVM Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Great looking compound bow. I hope you don't mind me using it! Quote

Those zip-line pieces will probably start disappearing off of Bricklink just because of people making these. How well does the thing actually shoot? Better or worse than flick-fire? I'd have to say worse than flick-fire... I'd give the range maybe 2 feet, but I haven't tried super hard. :) Wow, ingenious indeed - to the truest sense of the word. We just used the classic Lego rubber band. http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=x88 This is just so awesome, omg. Yeah, we love archery! :) I prefer a longbow or re-curve and Coral prefers the compound :) Just wish we had more finances to put towards it! Thanks everyone for the comments, glad you like it and yes feel free to use it! Quote
