Dr Lucky Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 So, my next box came from Lego today. Look what I got: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/rdarbee/Battle/box.jpg It seems to have a lot of figures. Ten plus the skeleton: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/rdarbee/Battle/figs.jpg We've got a bunch of seige weapons here for the Rogue Knights: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/rdarbee/Battle/weapons.jpg Here's the Hero Knights' Wall: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/rdarbee/Battle/wall_01.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/rdarbee/Battle/wall_02.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/rdarbee/...le/wall_alt.jpg A battle scene: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/rdarbee/Battle/battle.jpg And a preview of what I might get to build tomorrow: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/rdarbee/Battle/arkham.jpg The Gallery: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=193640 So, the review. First off, I didn't apply the stickers. I usually don't put them on anything but Viking shields. Honestly, this set isn't that exciting. The wall kind of sucks. The side towers can reattach at different angles, and it has hinges, but there is no way to close it up to be a whole fortress. The seige weapons aren't that great either. The ladder tower is cool, and the weapon cart isn't bad. The ram and the catapult kind of suck though. Of course, that stuff isn't why we bought this set, is it? The figs, of course, are great. 10 guys in armor in a $40 set is wonderful. I wish we had gotten some better heads for the minifigs. On the box, there was a picture of a fig with a cool mustache head, but that isn't the head actually in the box... We get 2 x Vladek head, 3 x Rogue Knight (Oriental Adventures Bad Guy) Head, 2 x Young Jayko Head, 1 x Rascus Head, 1 x King Mathias Head, and 1 x Viking with Dark Grey Beard Head (I think that was also originally from an Oriental Adventures Bad Guy). Other than the heads, the figs are cool. The gold armor and pearl helmets are great. Dracus is also a superb figure. Overall, I give this a C as a set, but definately worth the money for the figs. Hopefully, tomorrow I'll get to do Arkham... Quote
gusmoore17 Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 I agree with you Dr Lucky, the set isn't that great but I find smart the way the <insert that tiresome argument> pieces were put together, at least the design is far better than for example the Morcia castle one. I also agree the figs are excellent and not only the KKII.3 wave uses OE face prints but also the Vikings feature ones. Pitty TLC hasn't designed a lot of them lately, but the ones that have been are great. Great minifigs, colors and carts. *sweet* Quote

The figs in this set are great, but I would have liked to have seen some feather plumes for those great pearlized bunny helmets. Thanks for the pics and the review. Will Quote
xwingyoda Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 Tks for the review Dr Lucky ;-) Like I was saying previously, the KK sets have much improved !! This is such a great army builder set !! 5 good guys MFs, 5 bad guys MFs, Siege weapons and a big wall structure !! I will get this for parts thats for sure !! (since the vast majority of my castle walls are all in grey, I need to build up my light bluish grey collection of those for future projects !!) *yoda* Quote
Berry Syedow Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 I'm a bit bummed about the orient faces. The set is pretty blah. Juniorization, bley, and bionicle are a deadly combination I tell ya. ;-) I'll wait till Toys 'r' Us has a two for one deal to get these. Nice review, though, Dr. Lucky. Quote
christopher110 Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 First off, I didn't apply the stickers. I usually don't put them on anything but Viking shields. I do the same thing as you. . . And yes, the minifigs are great . . . Quote
Warrior of the Jaguar Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 Ow yeah, I've just joined this site and it's ... it's ... ehm ... Anyway, I've never seen sites who have lots of spoilers on Lego other than one on Bionicle. I myself am a very loyal collector of the Lego sets you call 'History and Adventure sets' here, and I daresay that these new sets are a whole lot better than these we've been enduring the last few years. I mean, we're seeing a lot of old pieces back here and the new colours (blue and green, who has ever seen a night with colours of armor like that?) aren't over-exagerrated like they used to be. The set itself isn't quite the best, but isn't lame either. I guess I'll buy this one. Oh, I forgot ... i'm gonna buy all of them. KW Quote
Shakar Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 This looks like a good set. The fortress / wall looks very cool. The minifigs are nice, save for those heads. I agree, they could have been better. I'm so sick of Vladek's head. Lots of armour here! Definitely useful. The catapult and ram suck. I'd give this set 8./10. Just a thing if you don't mind: could you post a pic of the back of the box? Thanks. Shakar Quote
Sir Dillon Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 How come picture on the box and the final modle are different? Does it have intructions for the one on the box? Anyway, thanks for yet another review Dr. Lucky! :-) I like this set, and would like to get it, but I might not. The wall isn't designed great, it looks more like a bunch of pieces stuck together, but there are some nice pieces, like the corner tower pieces and the doors. The same thing with all the siege weapons. But like mentioned, the highlight of this set is definitely the amount of figures and weapons for the price. *y* Quote

On the package the wall is bent, but Dr. Lucky decided to take pics with it not bent, but for some reason Lego took the left tower and but it behind the other parts of the wall on the box art. I could tell it what was different, and I think I might actually like the one shown on the box more, even if it's not the 'real' version. Quote

The people at LEGO who arrange box art must have thought the set looked better with one tower not attached instead of the symmetrical layout. How a set appears on the box does affect sales. This is likely the reasoning behind the difference. Ben Quote
Sir Dillon Posted July 15, 2006 Posted July 15, 2006 Thanks Ben! Does anyone know if there are intructions for the set on the box, or if it's just for the picture? Quote
Dr Lucky Posted July 15, 2006 Author Posted July 15, 2006 You don't need instructions to do it as shown on the box. The different towers connect with technic pins, so you just move them around as you like. Quote
