Toastie Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 Hi Everyone, got my 10219 set yesterday, put it together. Nice, it is sincerely nice. The engine that is! But hey, we had some ideas before how to do this, right? The really nice thing is: TLC is taking on the challenge. Beautiful. I love the set, well I love the engine. Folks, what do you think about the containers along with the cars? They are outsmarting the engine, don't they? I mean the "flat" beds are almost 8-wide - the engine is - sort of - 6-wide. Man, what about the TTX cars? Those in Maersk blue and 4-wide containers - would have been some revival type of thing. No offense at all! But ... Whatever, the engine rocks  And the truck as well  The cars are as far as I am concerned. I am prepared ... Rock on, Thorsten Quote
brenden perkins Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 Personally, my trains have not arrived yet.. but, I think the containers look great. They're detailed and to scale. The containers that came with the ttx car were pretty small. Now, the well cars..they don't look too great but, if they looked any better we'd be paying more for the set. We can make decent looking well cars anyway. More then half the fun is building anyway. Quote
mrblue Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 totally agree! engine is let's say... wow! but for the two wagons I think that lego could have done something better, much better! the ttx set was "wonderful" compared to these. have a nice lego day mrBlue Quote
henryhotspurs Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 Yeah, okay the Maersk engine is incredible, the Maersk shipping containers are pretty cool too but I did like the BNSF TTX cars a bit better. The Maersk rail cars modelled are pretty accurate for what they are though. Remember, they aren't very complex structures in real life. Quote
Locutis Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 I just built the engine this afternoon, but I haven't built the wagons yet. I'm not as excited either for the wagons. I really want to motorize this train, but I don't really want the stuff to be inside the engine. Instead, I want to build some rolling stock cars that can hold cargo inside, and in one of them I will motorize and insert the battery. I want to then use what I learn and build one just like it (but in older style) for my Emerald Night train (I hate that large engine sticking out the back of the EN, but that's a whole other discussion thread). I do like the engine, but I question the build a lot. I don't understand a lot of their techniques. It's not like the modular buildings, where they use a technique for something, and I say "hey! I never would have thought of that, it's really cool", I'm just like "meh". The train looks fantastic, but I really didn't enjoy building it all that much. I think you could easily build an engine that looks identical to this on the outside using completely different techniques inside. Locutis Quote
AussieJimbo Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 I like the containers, they are a good size. The wagons look good but I wonder about the well-car config. Sure you can stack the containers but if you need a car that is long enough to carry them end to end anyway then you haven't really gained anything with the double deck configuration. I'm very happy with my elongated container wagons from the 7939 set/scratch built in a similar way but I still want a few of the Maersk ones (and of course the official version of the magnificent Maersk loco). :classic: Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 Hi Toastie, I've ordered my Maersk train set, but it's not yet arrived. I love the locomotive and the truck, but I agree with you about the rolling stock: they are a little bit poor compared to the technique of TTX double-cars. I think however that the size of this new containers is pretty cool, but now should be necessary a new overhead travelling crane to pick up them (the 4555 set is useless in this case ) Quote
