kevin1990 Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 (edited) Just wanted to build a set looking like 6054 Forestmen's Hideout. It turned out pretty horrorable. so please feel free to suggest anything. Pictures: Edited May 22, 2011 by Rufus Indexed! Quote
Captain Becker Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 Good work, it looks like an orginal LEGO set, wich it isnt. I like the way you used those 3 different colours and putted all together so nicely. And the fact at the whole thing opens up makes this MOC even better. Great work whit this kevin. XimenaPaulina Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 Just wanted to build a set looking like 6054 Forestmen's Hideout. It turned out pretty horrorable. so please feel free to suggest anything. Is that term honorable and horrible at the same time? Well, it certainly isn't the latter and I think this is a quite good build, it has that classic simplicity that the Forestmen subtheme had and the added opening functionality is a very neat playable feature. The only thing I'd suggest is to probably put more color and texture on the black wall/tree, and a few rock formations and shrubery details on the base will certainly improve this one. But overall, pretty nice work on this one kevin! Quote
Dazmundo Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 I'm sat looking at my Forestmens Hideout and trying to work out what yours is lacking as I really like the original and yours is not quite there. I think possibly it would benifit from a few more branches to break up the straight lines a bit. Other than that I'm not sure what to suggest, it is a shorter fatter version of the original which is, I assume, exactly what you were aiming for, maybe some green branches on the blue as I think possibly it is the blue that is dominating a bit. But I'm really not sure if that would work or just look odd. I like your Hut and it probably just needs a couple of minor tweaks to make it great I just don't know what they are D Quote
kevin1990 Posted March 10, 2011 Author Posted March 10, 2011 Thank you all for the kind words. it is a shorter fatter version of the original which is, I assume, exactly what you were aiming for, Yes Is the hideout in 6054 is in a tree, my goal was to get a little house infront of the tree going in to the tree, so I thinkg I should of made it a little higher. The branches were were really hard to place and still are very unstable. Btw Thanks KielDaMan for the rock Idea, I really like that and I think I will place a little rock looking feature on the back of the Hut since that is the plainest part of all! Quote
Big Cam Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 It may not be the prettiest hideout but I can relate to the swing open design, it really brings me back to the good old days of LEGO. I like the simplicity of it. Quote
Artifex Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 I really like your MOC. My 2 cents are: remember that the old Forestmen sets were sort of hidden, camouflaged, subtle... I think you should try and make the front door less obvious, maybe covering it, hiding half of it (or in other way making it smaller) or perhaps having a smaller entrance altogether. But youo are DEFINITELY in the right path. Throw up a couple of more Forestmen and I'd definitely buy your MOC if it were an official set ! Quote
SirSven7 Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 Your MOC is great, it looks like a offical forestmen set, I too would buy it. One idea for a minor improvement, would be to add an escape hatch in the back, or a ladder leading up to the top, or possily a fire place with food for cooking. But it looks really nice Quote
