Brickdoctor Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 "Error: Subject 328 is mutating." "Repeat: Error: Subject 328 is mutating." "Do not panic. The situation is under control." I finally built something sci-fi that I'm happy with! It's a 16x16 vignette that started as an experiment with multiple sets of those SNOTed arches around cylinders, and grew to this. So the story goes, this lab is owned by a futuristic human faction obsessed with cleanliness. They do everything in white, and to protect themselves they clone themselves and breed a certain male to mate with a certain female to create each and every 'perfect' couple. I envisioned this as taking place on a spaceship constantly traveling through the middle of nowhere to avoid 'contamination', so these people are all bred to take on certain tasks. The two engineers in Section 21B would be bred as a couple with exceptional engineering skills. Don't ask about kids, haven't thought that far yet. To protect themselves from sicknesses turning into epidemics, they've been experimenting with altering portions of the genetic code. I think someone made a mistake here... Here's a shot of the back: (inside of the lab) I wanted a really stark contrast, so I did this one in grey and bright yellow. Basically I decided the color scheme of this vig would be that the people like everything clean, but that cleanliness is a facade for the mechanical madness behind. I decided on five colors: White is 'normal', grey is mechanical, yellow is to call attention, blue is good, and red is bad. And then I tried to use only those colors. And one of the moving parts: Everything that should move does. On the top you can see the little 2-wide door. It retracts by one stud and then flips upwards. On the bottom are both pods retracted. When they are, those two ams flip down to supply the pods with whatever liquid is inside them and ensures the health of the occupant. Finished February 2011, more on flickr. C&C welcome, thanks for looking! Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 Very interesting build Doc, the overall SNOT build is impressive. Very clever push-button opening functionality too. Pretty neat work! Quote
Henchmen4Hire Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 Is the 2-wide door a service entrance for robots? I'd hate to have to keep squeezing through it if I were a human operator lol Quote

I'd hate to have to keep squeezing through it if I were a human operator lol A minifig can easily fit in sideways, but that robot would never fit through. Quote
Henchmen4Hire Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 Yeah, but who wants to enter doors sideways? People in tiny submarines I guess Quote
CMP Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 A very nice MOC. This is how I envisioned SPIII held their prisoners. Quote
Legostein Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 Hello! The cloning facility is really a great concept and designed well. The small hovering operating droid uses many unconventional connections, thus giving him a complex and agile look. Cheers, ~ Christopher Quote
Bricker Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 Beutiful MOC. I love the door function where I usually always like it when people take an ordinary thing and make it better. I dont quite understand the phone peice in the front of the robot but other than that it looks beuitiful. Good job Quote
Brickdoctor Posted February 7, 2011 Author Posted February 7, 2011 Yeah, but who wants to enter doors sideways? People in tiny submarines I guess I don't know. The piece fit. In-story, these people are obsessed with white cleanliness anyways, so not many people venture into the grey mechanical lab. A very nice MOC. This is how I envisioned SPIII held their prisoners. Huh? SP3 held their prisoners outside spaceships with MegaBlokin-huge targets for non-secured open buttons. My people are so much smarter. The cloning facility is really a great concept and designed well. The small hovering operating droid uses many unconventional connections, thus giving him a complex and agile look. Thanks. The robot is fully posable. I should take some pictures; he can do some really awesome poses. I dont quite understand the phone peice in the front of the robot but other than that it looks beuitiful. Good job See the blue glow at the bottoms? Those are his thrusters. I tried to stay away from Star Wars technology here, so he needs a source of propulsion to combat gravity, repulsorlifts are non-existant. Quote
Sirens-of-Titan Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 Very cool build Brickdoctor! I love how the pods fit perfectly in the wall and I assume sliding in and out is easy. Very comical and a job well done! PS sick base! Quote
prateek Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 Awesome SNOT! How convenient that those arches perfectly fit those curved pieces, eh? Very innovative design. Great job Quote
filospinato Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Nice! From the title, and recognizing the torso on the female engineer, I expected Admiral Akbar to pop his lovely, mutated head out of the growth cell! Quote
Brickdoctor Posted February 9, 2011 Author Posted February 9, 2011 PS sick base! Thanks. Those are standard for all my vigs now. Awesome SNOT! How convenient that those arches perfectly fit those curved pieces, eh? Very innovative design. Great job It's not a new technique. It was just a matter of fitting them properly and hiding all the attachments. From the title, and recognizing the torso on the female engineer, I expected Admiral Akbar to pop his lovely, mutated head out of the growth cell! Nah. Ackbar is a good SW alien. Quote
Tobbe Arnesson Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Nice! Sounds like a world a bunch of phone cleaners might create if they were expelled from normal society. Quote
CommanderFox Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 Very nice Doc! Loving the snot effect especially round the back. The way you did the mutation is cool, though im not sure about ahsoka's lekku. Keep it up! CF Quote
lightningtiger Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 Excellent MOC 'Brickdoctor', reminds me of the film 'Brave New World' from the early 1970's where children were the product of manufacture almost.....very dangerous I say ! Keep these COOL creations comming 'doc' and Brick On ! Quote
I Scream Clone Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 Lovely work mate Love how you have pointed out all the bells and whistles too, very inspiring. Oh did I mention, Frontpaged too! Quote
Section8 Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 that's a very good MOC, and the robot you made is very nice for its simplicity. But when I saw the first pic, the first thing I thought of was that you made an intergalactic laundromat... Quote
Aeturnus Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 Nice work.Love the stasis chambers.A very clever idea. Quote
Aethersprite Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 This is amazing! I like what you did with Ahsoka there. Anyway, was the droid supposed to be based off Cad Bane's little droid Todo? That was the first thing I thought when I saw it. The head and legs pull off the Todo look nicely. Quote

Nice. Anyway, was the droid supposed to be based off Cad Bane's little droid Todo? That was the first thing I thought when I saw it. The head and legs pull off the Todo look nicely. Nope. I just needed a security robot, and I had a blue brick with four studs and the sand blue arch lying around. Quote
simonjedi Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 He's totally rocking out on a small guitar, it's one of those 'once you see it..' things. Looks very smooth. i'm not a fan of using Ahsoka as the mutation, it doesn't really fit. (imo anyway) Quote
Masked Builder Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 Another nice MOC Brickdoctor! It's good to see you branching out from the usual Star Wars MOCs. Quote

She's definitely alien and here face compared to that of the classic smiley in the next tube over is just plain freaky. Quote
