Kikuichimonji Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 So about a month ago I posted my latest MOC, the Sphere. Ever since, I've been toying with the design as well as replacing the lightgrey with darkgrey. This is the final result. I don't think I've ever spend so much time (and money...) on tweaking a ship. I plain love the color scheme and the overall smoothness. New for this version are: The colorscheme (duh). Back greeblies (the original didn't had any since I originally intended for it to fly horizontally instead of both horizontally and vertically). 2 stripes across the engines which I just plain love. A new, brick-built front gun. Smooth panels on both sides of the cockpit. An orange stripe underneath the cockpit all the way up to the engines. I also removed quite some stuff, most notably the missiles and stuff. They just didn't fit in with the overall smoothness of the ship. Main problem was coming up with a way to take care of those "down-studs" that were very visible because the engine was 90 degrees compared to the body. Well, on to the pictures: Front shot: Back greeblies: Belly: Central spine holding this thing together: Engine belly. I used 1x4's instead of a 2x4 to keep up with the 'double line pattern' used at the top of the engine. I plain love these stripes. Well, that's it. Some more pictures in my gallery when moderated. Let me know what you think! Quote
xenologer Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 Definetly looks better than the old version, Removing the gun/missle pod stuff was a good choice. If you can get the cockpit glass in smoke instead of clear it might fit with the darker colors a little better... And with this, as well as the old version I do wonder... why it's called the 'Sphere'? It's not shaped like a ball... Im still not entirely sure what direction it flys in. The way the long engines are pointed, I'd guess that its like a rocket, where it launches straight up, and probably hover's using those... Maybe it's somthing like Fett's Slave1 ship... where it's supposed to flip? Quote
Starwars4J Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 I love this. It's great that you scaled back on the weapons, and the new color scheme fits beautifully. I hate to think how much exo-force you had to canibalize for this :-P I still say it's a really interesting design, and I like the fact that the ship has an actual "spine" holding it together. The greebles are nice, but the ones on the back are a little sparce, so either put a little more in, or remove it altogether. I think if you could find a way to hide the greebles a little more on the back it would have a better effect. What else can I say, it's a nice, smooth ship with a very interesting design. Great job! Kikuichimonji Posted June 8, 2006 Author Posted June 8, 2006 Xenologger: it can fly both horizontally (back engines) or vertically (belly engines). And I wanted a smoke cockpit, but since those are around 5$, I decided to just keep it like this. Could've grabbed one from a SW set for the pictures though. Starwars4J: It had just about the maximum amount of greeblies I could fit in. Without any real good idea what to put in there other then greeblies, they'll just stay there. And I only have the 2 small EF sets. I don't think I used a single EF piece though. Around 75% of this is Bricklinked items (must've cost me about 20$ I think...). Glad you liked it! Quote
SuvieD Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 They colors on this are better than the previous. It looks very sleek and much like something you would see in a scifi movie. I still feel very sorry for the cramped pilot though. MOC on! Quote
xwingyoda Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 Really nice space creation Kiku ;-) I think that dark grey fits the ship better !! I shall move this to our space forum ;-) *yoda* Quote
