hi,

i have made building instructions for my new tatra 8x8. i saw the pics from the unimog u 400 from lego, i thought: what a shame it isn't a real trialtruck, with its none balloon type tyres and stuff, it probably won't even be 4x4 like the 8297... so i made instructions for my truck, hoping to inspire some lego enthousiast for lego trucktrial.

these are free for usage, i only want that people don't go stealling my honour. if u post pictures and you say its your design, i will not have a friendly smile on my face, like i have now, giving you this. this truck has 7 predicessors.

i think these are the first instructions for an 8x8 trialtruck. correct me if i am wrong :)

the instructions only give you the chassis and axles, the cabin and the rest is up to you.

for those who would like to build one, here are some tips:

- first build the axles

- build 4 of each axle, front and rear.

- the front axles, who steer, have a right and a left side. so build with this in you mind.

- if the photo's are not enough at some point, you can always contact me in this topic

the functions:

- 8x8 drive

- 4x8 steering

- ability to control left and right tyres independently

- very flexy suspension

- because of independent control, a good turning radius.

- you can freely build the cab etc...mine has working flashlights

- you can stretch the frame in the midle, in front of the gearbox. now you can fit the gearbox in there. this way you have a lot of space to build a cool superstructure on it.

- gearbox has interchangeable gears, you can have 3 ratios : 1/6.25 , 1/12 , 1/20

rare parts:

4 u joints, a lot of bricks you easely find, it does use a lot of 1x2's with axle holes. preferable 12 8 axl's withstop. but you can also use normal 8 axles. there are also some 4 axl's with stop but in al cases u can alsouse a normal 4 axle or a 3 with stop. the only downside with normal axl's is the reliability wich is very very good with al the special parts, i have had no problems and i did drive it outside on dirt and snow.

power functions:

max: 2xl, 1m, 1 or 2 batteryboxes, 3 recievers and 2 remotes -> xl's work at 100 percent with 2batteryboxes, 90-95 with one (i think? am i right?)

min 2xl, 1m, 1 batteybox, 1 reciever and 1 remote (ability to control left and right independent doesn't work)

some lego technic kowledge is probably needed to build it trough instructions, i did my best.

kind regards Niels Van den Vreken

I have just seen your truck in some videos- it's great!!

The only thing that bothered me was the cab, it's out of scale!! Widen it just a little bit and it will be perfect! :classic:

that in the video's was the old one, i knew the cab was too big, so now i have a shorter but 2 stud wider cab, it does look a lot better :) you can see it in the frame folder.

i will post a vid of it, but the instructions shortend my time, so its for tommorow or so, or if another builder is faster than me :p

this truck is also lighter.. this one, with 1 battery box, 3 recievers... it comes at 2.34 kilo, this is with tyres and my cabine.. with a few tweaks i didn't put in the instructions, i have a small leap ahead :p i saw 4x4's who weigh more than this, so i am very pleases with the weight.

Nice 8x8, Niels! In regards to Brickshelf, it typically takes several days for a new folder to be moderated and become public. During the holidays, it may take even longer. That's why more and more people are using Flickr to post their Lego Technic MOCs -- no waiting and one can type a detailed description of each picture.

Awesome truck! And it is amazing how it can climb such a steep board!

Excellent!

DLuders, can you edit your post and make those images smaller, I cant load them properly...(slow net, currently)?

Very well. I just didn't know that this part (in the middle) existed. :classic:

ow, haha, its real :) those are there to extra hold the black beams in place, i think it could work without them, but insert the bleu pins under it, those keep the frame togheter..

so u are building it? if u are, please comment or mke a vid, i suck at making video's, i would love to see it outdoor :)

how are the instructions? axles?..

Sorry I'm not building your truck, I don't have the necessary shocks, or time. Actually I'm improving my own Tatra (

) right now. Have you seen it?

I took a look at your instructions and they look great, but I suggest you make a LDD file for your truck. I have made one for mine and, in my opinion, it's much more appealing that way.

It was my first serious LDD model making... and it's really easy! Try it :classic::thumbup:

i have seen your truck :) when i first saw the pics, i was thinking that i would brace those xl's more, but in the video they seem ok.

looks you also found a way of making heavy duty tatra axles :) i made about 4-6 versions before comming up with this latest design, i had 1 goal, 1 axle being able to carry the weight of the whole truck, and i succeeded :p

i know the ldd thingy is cool and practical, but i just can't work with it, i schould learn it, but i hate building in pixels, just give me the real deal :)

All I can say is :laugh: and that your axles don't just carry the truck!
