2011 LEGO Boardgames News & Discussion

Recommended Posts

The enemies are quite diverse, though, ranging from orcs to werewolves to the undead (and a ghost, even), not forgetting the giant spiders and bats. I don't think it will be that hard to implement the mummies from Ramses Pyramid or scorpions or snakes or pretty much anything you want into the game as well. There's definitely loads of potential in Heroica!

That's what I was saying pages ago ^^. But it's a good thing people catch up to a common idea. I already see entire Heroica-layouts swapped and traded (custom levels, so to speak) via LDD-files or other media! This could even become a new forum-build project once we get info on the gameplay! Anyone up for it? (This might even be a chance for me to get used to LDD, which I haven't used ever since its very first iteration years ago...)

Another thing: all those brick-built bigger monsters from previous games make very good epic encounters I'd say. And there's room for even bigger stuff still!

Be well all!

Cutty

What fantastic printing and ideas!

Such a pity that they didn't have these back during the fantasy era; the orcs in green and the Golems would have been my favorite faction! A lot of very useful pieces and nice colors.

Are those 2 shades of green in the Waldurk Forest set? They look like regular green and a lighter green.

I can't just imagine just having one Heroica Boardgame. But for most of use who like and (near) love them, would want have them (atleast) all (me included!) But when those who own them all in the (near) future, what about the dice, when you combined all the games? What do you guys think. Must you roll another die just for entering another part of the board? Or would the dice fuse into one? Or...?

They're regular green (officially 28 Dark Green) and bright green (officially 37 Bright Green). Bright green isn't a new color, but it's a rarer color used primarily for plants and some baseplates. Recent uses include the lids for the "My First LEGO Set" and "My First LEGO Duplo Set" boxes, which function as baseplates for building, as well as the head of the Witch from Minifigures Series 2.

The die for each of the games is the same. The game mechanic only uses one die for each player's turn. If you've got multiple games connected you'll nave extra dice, or each player cam have their own die.

Nice to know, but it could also include that you're able to trow more than one die at the same turn. As you can make your own rules, right? I just like to high (re)playability, potential and possibilities.

You can use any dice you want! Of course you can customise the Lego dice too.

Thanks Grog!

Does anyone notice the 4 trans blue axes in Waldurk? Especially the lightsaber-esque parts holding them up? :cry_happy:

I kinda like seeing the actual characters playing the game on the boxart, rather than the usual awesome-but-devastatingly-nonexistant ones. The yellow barbarian dude comes in all four sets, I see. Useful for table quizzes, I suppose.

Those parts have been in sets since last year. They're basically an updated version of this part, which they replaced. The official name for them is "Butt". (really, check PaB!)

I'm kind of surprised that the yellow barbarian microfig isn't in fact the female barbarian which we've seen in the upcoming LEGO Champion game. If that's the case in the final sets, then both of the female microfigs in that set are unique to it! Of course, I'm sure a lot of AFOLs will want that set anyway. It includes an abundance of microfigs, including an unprinted one in Warm Gold (BL's Pearl Gold), and 2x4 bricks in various colors like Light Purple (BL's Bright Pink) and Medium Lilac (BL's Dark Purple). It also seems, like Creationary, to be a game that could appeal to the whole family, with gameplay focused on creative challenges rather than just strategy and good rolls of the die.

Thanks for the big pictures, grogall! Still waiting for those folders to become public, though.

There's seemingly six type of heroes in Heroica:

Barbarian (yellow, featured in all four packs)

Cleric (dark tan, featured in Waldurk and Fortaan)

Knight (grey, exlusive to Fortaan)

Mage (red, featured in Draida, Nathuz and Fortaan)

Ranger (blue, exclusive to Waldurk)

Thief (black, exclusive to Nathuz)

Shame that none of them are female, but the Champions boardgame is a quick fix on that. The microfigs in Minotaur, Ramses Pyramid and NinjaGo also fit the Heroica world excellently.

Thanks Grogall for those new pictures. I've never been interested in games because they don't have minifigures, but they do seem like great parts packs. I wish they'd release a minifigure scale line in the Heroica theme. The minifigures would be brilliant and the sets would be great.

*Facepalm* Sorry, didn't notice the horizontal knob. I'm still holding my breath for that piece, though.

There's a cool illustrated poster for heroica in the new lego magazine.

also there should be a video here but it's not up yet.

also, LDD recreations:

(I'm shaky on the official layout of Waldurk and I may have the wrong one. there are high-res pics of it out of box like it looks here, but the box design itself has another - it's just a rearrangement though)

heroica.lxf

building it helps ya piece together the gameplay. kinda. also there's this template of sorts all the sets follow - so custom heroica boards can become a crazy new form of MOC. Tributes to other epic quests...

It looks like Draida Bay is the "Shave a Sheep/Wild Wool" of the Heroica games.

Not with all those lovely orcs it's not. One is even exclusive. Frankly, nothing can be equal to Shave a Sheep. Not even Shave a Sheep. That's actually worse than Shave a Sheep.

But yeah, aside from the microfigures, Draida does look the most underwhelming.

There are two exclusive orcs: Silver in Draida and Gold in Fortress (and it comes with new helmet!)

I already made an online ldd moc but it stinks due to lack of pieces and unknown gameplay ,

Also each comes with at least one exclusive micro, Ghost thing, leader golem, silver ork, and king ork

Most of the microfigs are exclusive to their gamepack, exluding the Barbarian, the Mage, the Cleric and the Orc Sailor.

Alright then. Sadly this is only barebones partial rules because the other boards have different heroes and some kinda additional weapons and riches (come to think of it, I'm sure it must just be collect the riches off the board and buy a weapon, which is then a failsafe against poor rolling), but nothing to guess on the shared basics I guess.

1

Actually, while playing it the first time against my 6 yr old goddaughter, I did realize that there's a good bit of ambiguity - finally concluded that move and battle happen in the same turn, so not

p1 move to monster

p2 turn

p1 single roll attack

p2 turn

but

p1 move to monster and attack to the death

p2 turn

p1 move to monster and attack once

if no damage is taken on hero, attack again/attack other adjacent monster, if actions do not apply, end turn. if damage is taken end turn

p2 turn

(the 'fighting chance' angle for p2 trying to fight same monster)

and I really only figured that because it talks about fighting every enemy you're next to in one turn. but the big thing I'm left with is: May I jump past the battle if the other player is locked in defeat (I have to assume yes) and how do I get next to the boss to fight him if that's where the other player is stalled? do I push the player aside? stand on his head? do I need to do the same for those other little battles?

that said it is of course a lego game and they encourage you to change it up all you want... it's just unprofessional that they wouldn't tackle these situations easily found on the first playthrough, make a game for little kids so confusing. I can imagine plenty of little frustrated kids over it.

Edit: the end your move and fight thing is obvious now. I was erroneously equating "move" with "turn". still wondering on the defeated player occupying the space - maybe you move them back to start to heal. fight to the death, move to start to heal. yeah, that's gotta be it...

Edit Edit: somebody tell me if I'm missing something that's right under my nose...

Thanks for posting those, SpiderSpaceman.

Looks simple enough that I might actually be able to get some regular people to play it with me but there's plenty of room for house rules, though, when I have gamer friends over.
