Catarino

Single Wheeled Exploring Platform

Recommended Posts

Hello there!

So here's my latest, done for a contest at my LUG.

The theme was single wheeled vehicles and I came up with this thing:

"Mobile Lab Platform Explorer - Used to explore the conditions of new planets to be colonized.

It is equiped with a lab with all sorts of equipment to determine the conditions of the planets.

It is able to accommodate 2 scientists for long periods of time."

Check the video as this one is Power Functions Controlled! ;)

So? What do you think? :classic:

Pretty neat

The body of it kinda reminds me of a boat with that blue bottom and white top ,whitch is a nice look for an exploring vehicle. How is it's balance though? It looks like it stands decently because it's bottom heavy but does it tip with a tap?

That's just awesome Catarino!

How did you do this wheel? The whole thing looks very robust and stable on the video.

@Black Rabbit

If you check the entire post there's a link to the video of this thing working with Power Functions ;)

It is pretty stable I think! :)

@Decale: The ring is done with bricks plates and tiles 1x2! Try it! You will see that it is quite soft when it gets big and then you just have to bend it until you get the ring :)

This made me laugh. It's like half a Haailfire Droid. Nice MOC.

Now that's AWESOME 'Catarino' while also being one of the most interesting designs I have seen in a while. :sweet:

In fact I've can not recall any sci-fi flick or tv series using anything like this, except in the original cartoon series of Speed Racer, but it was it as big as this.

I'm a conformist! 'Catarino' I'm a conformist! ! :sweet:

Think General Grievous wheel bike made 50 times bigger and heavily modified

I am truly out of words. Despite how simple the concept is, that itself is one of the most ingenious creations I have ever seen. It is almost Cyber Punk in nature, as I can see a Steam Punk artist with the same concept! I truly love the design of the wheel and it's function to transport the vehicle; I can see this mode of exploration being used (though not on coarse or rocky planet surfaces  ), like a possible breakthrough in transportation or in an Arthur C. Clarke novel.

Brilliant concept and creation, my friend

Clever! Now it just needs some kind of stabilizers so that the hull wouldn't rock like that when it moves.

Poor minifig, he must be horribly motion-sick!

@prateek: Almost did when I was shooting the videos!

Once again thank you so so much!

I'm totally overwhelmed with the feedback I'm getting with this MOC in such a short time.

Just Wow! :cry_happy:
