Carbohydrates Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 Here's what I've been working on lately! It's built to fit in with the official Western buildings such as Gold City Junction and the sheriff's office - 16x32 tan baseplate, open back, and an obligatory black fence piece. It still needs just a bit of finishing work, but I'm a bit impatient and I feel it's presentable now! Changes to be made: Smaller sign (3 tiles tall instead of 4), move the cactus so people don't have to walk through it to read the bulletin board. The three letter pieces on the little bulletin board would be these three pieces: 1 2 3 Not sure I'm thrilled with the firewood holder there, especially since the building doesn't have a fireplace. I'm also not positive I'm sold on this being a gun store. It works well enough, but feels a bit uninspired. It's too small to be a saloon, doesn't look right to be a livery or blacksmith, and there's already a sheriff's office, general store, and bank. Any thoughts on this? Quote
CMP Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 I your cactus technique. I think it's great! About the 2 walls on either side of the interior- do they have guns on them as well? If so, then cool. If not, you should. I think a gun store works fine, but if you're not sure about it, try a post office. Quote

Everyone builds saguaro cactus, so I wanted to try a different kind. The left wall has two more rifles behind a swinging barred door and the right wall has a cavalry sword and two knives. The main purpose of the shelves/racks is to hold up the side walls, so they (or something similar) have to be there. :) Edited June 22, 2010 by Carbohydrates Quote
Izy Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 I like your moc very much! Im only missing the water basket for the horse You dont have a post office yet, right? there you have it! Quote
lightningtiger Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 Excellent designing 'Carbohydrates' - the cactus and overall building are truely AWESOME ! Mind if I use the cactus idea for my country town ? Wait to 'Klaus-Dieter' see it eh ? Great work 'Carbohydrates' and I'm a conformist! ! Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 I love the colors and you've certainly created a nice design that captures the look of wood siding quite well. Great lanterns and a most interesting cactus bush design. Very nice! Quote
LuxorV Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 Neat MOC, Carbohydrates. It brings back good memories of the old Wild West sets (which I totally missed at the time ). I'd really like to see something like this by TLG again Quote
Artifex Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 I loved your design. I'm more of a Playmobil person when it comes to the Western theme, but I have to say your MOC looks just great. I'd have to go back and take a look at a couple of official Lego Western sets, but I'm pretty sure your design is better than most - if not all - Western sets TLG ever put out. Kudos to you. Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 That is an absolutely amazing Western MOCset, Carbohydrates! I really it! It looks absolutely realistic and includes a lot of great details and a nice interior! The most I like the architectual design and the cactus. The only things I miss are a horse, a cowboy, a salesman and a Western woman. Otherwise it's perfect! Very, very well done! I'm really looking forward to see more of these excellent Western MOCsets from you! I'd really like to see something like this by TLG again Totally agreement here, LuxorV! If only TLG released some Western sets like this one - whether they would be exclusive or not would imo not matter! Klaus-Dieter Quote

Great lanterns and a most interesting cactus bush design. Very nice! Thanks! It's funny, the hedgehog cactus was the very last thing I added to the MOC and it seems to be one of the most popular parts of it! Feel free to use it wherever! The only things I miss are a horse, a cowboy, a salesman and a Western woman. Otherwise it's perfect! Thank you! I don't really bother with minifigs when I'm designing this sort of thing, but when I build it (because I probably will), it'll look a lot more 'alive.' I've already got plans for figs - see that thread I made about 'em! Quote
Captain Blackmoor Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 A neat creation, I'm sure it would look splendid as well when built in real bricks! Your cactus technique is awesome indeed! The whole building is appealing to me, the colour, it's shape. I like it. Quote
Tycho McKorley Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Nice work. Is there any chance we'll see this in real brick form or in ray tracing? Quote
Norro Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 The cacti are lovely, and the building is also very well executed. I even like the colour scheme. Would be great to see this in real bricks. Perhaps this could become a telegraph office? Lawyer's? Doctor's? Thanks so much for sharing and God Bless, Nathan Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 (edited) Wow that's an amazing Western design 'Carbo'. Good job on this one! I simply love the overall build, the front view is trully-classic Western. The details (logs at the side, cacti, lamps) are very neat too. Edited June 25, 2010 by KielDaMan Quote
TheCrimsonTrooper Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 Nice work! And as somebody above said, I too like your cactus technique, it is simple and it looks nice. In fact I may have to borrow your idea if I ever do a western themed MOC. Quote
Carbohydrates Posted June 25, 2010 Author Posted June 25, 2010 (edited) Thank you everybody, I really do appreciate the positive feedback. I'll play with it some tonight and see how it would look as a post office or doctor's office. I actually really like the idea of a doctor's office! Also, I just fulfilled some childhood dreams by ordering a Gold City Junction and a Sheriff's Lock-Up off Bricklink, so perhaps we shall see how this looks in a proper Western town! edit: This little building has over 600 pieces, by the way. Won't be cheap to make. It has more than double the number of pieces of LEGO's official general store and bank combined. Edited June 25, 2010 by Carbohydrates Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 edit: This little building has over 600 pieces, by the way. Won't be cheap to make. It has more than double the number of pieces of LEGO's official general store and bank combined. That wouldn't matter, Carbohydrates! TLG could either release it together with one or two more buildings, one or two vehicles, some horses and some minifigs as an Exclusive (2000 bricks ~ 150 Euros/US Dollars) or they could simplify the design in the way that it still looks nearly like it looks now but would need less bricks (e. g. railings, windows). If only TLG wanted to ... Klaus-Dieter Quote
Legostein Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 Hello! It's amazing to see more western creations recently. And your green store is really a gain for the theme. My favourite details are also the little cacti being in bloom. Cheers, ~ Christopher Quote
