Capt.JohnPaul Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 Alright, KingoftheZempk and I have been talking about our ship we were making for the Americans as we have already modded the BBB and renamed it the HMS Thunderer. (is that bad luck??) Anyway, our order off of ebay for the hulls and cannons arrived yesterday, (our time) and we immedietely began building it. we just finished it about 45 minutes ago and would love to show you guys our new ship, the USS Revere, named after the American Patriot, Paul Revere. Here's what we started with: About halfway through the building stage: You can see how instead of using a steering wheel(as we don't own one) we decided to create one! We used string rigging for the first time, and we feel it's pretty good for our first. And the crew: We compared her to the HMS Thunderer, and she is about the same length. And the Brickshelf Folder when public We would like to thank Captain Green Hair for his string-rigging and How to Build a Frigate Tutorials. Comments and criticism is more than welcome!! Quote
General Redwater Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Nice job! The ship looks good, I would just change the stern a little bit, so that it looks less like a square. Good work. - General Redwater Quote
Capt.JohnPaul Posted June 6, 2010 Author Posted June 6, 2010 I guess we would have changed the stern and made a cabin but we had barely any pieces and with the string rigging, if we took apart the stern, the 2 masts would come crashing down. Anyways, here are some cool action shots! A little blury Sinking red coats! Blue coats are out for blood!! 1 last shot before the boarding! Board the HMS Thunderer I just noticed the crew looks like they've been infected by green zombie larva! BOOM (Sorry for the weird lighting) Thanks for the comments! Quote
Captain Genaro Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 It looks like a fine ship. First off, have you heard of Bricklink? It's a great website for finding cheap Lego, better than Ebay. Back to the ship. I think that the stern is a little blocky but that can be easily remidied. You have two masts on your ship but I think it seems a little small for two. If you would like to keep both of them, try spreading them out a bit so that there is more space between them. Finally, I would try to redo the bow. It is too vertical and does not slope forward. I really like the stearing wheel and the rigging is good for a first try. I know, it can be hard to work with the little string. Keep up the good work. Quote
Capt.JohnPaul Posted June 6, 2010 Author Posted June 6, 2010 (edited) Thank you for your kind words, but we can't move the masts farther a part because the string and we could only move it up like 1 stud. As for the bow, I know, that's what I said to KingoftheZempk, but actually, it grows on you and now to us it seems just fine. Do you think with the flag and the curve of the back wall on the poopdeck, and the colour of that wall,it looks like this? (except for it's size ) Oh, I have been on bricklink before but have not bought anything from the site. Edited June 6, 2010 by Capt.JohnPaul Quote
Captain Becker Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Where is that pic taken from? It is some kinda of game but what is the name of it? Could you say it if you know it, the ship what you are building looks good but it is a bit small i guess, otherly good job PS:What is wrong whit ur avatar pic? It looks kinda... weird Captain Becker Quote
KotZ Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 The pic is taken from Empire: Total War. And yeah, Capt.JohnPaul, what's wrong with your avatar? Anyway, I would like to thank everybody for their comments. We did run out of pieces for the Captain's Cabin so that's why it looks blocky and rectangular. But if we build another ship (which I'm sure we will... eventually, but not in he near future) we will account for what is needed for the CC. The Reason it is so small is because we got two old hull pieces, one old bow, and one old stern. And yes, we've heard of Bricklink, but to me, Bricklink looks very confusing. Maybe because I haven't studied it. From a builder's perspective, i had a very enjoyable time building the USS Revere with Capt.JohnPaul. I have always had great respect for you ship builders and MOCers here on EuroBricks, but now that I've built a ship, that respect is even greater because I've experienced it. I'm sure eventually I could make MOCs as great as you people, but I'll need more bricks!! Thank you again for your comments guys!!! Quote
Commodore Hornbricker Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 She looks like a fine ship for the Americans with great color scheme and rigging. Quote
Capt.JohnPaul Posted June 6, 2010 Author Posted June 6, 2010 I don't know what's wrong with my avatar. I didn't resize it. As for the video game, it's Empire Total War. And I think the game is having an effect on us, in the game it tells you what direction wind is going and you shoot at other ships, now that we have two ships, we decide what way the wind goes and we use a compass. We also use a laser pointer to tell exactly where the cannonball would go as we can't pull the ones below deck back. Thanks! Unless someone posts while writing this, would this be a double post? Anyways, thanks, the colour scheme is based of the USS Constitution, and 1 question I have on here is why do people use blue for french soldiers when they usually wore white? (It's in my American history book) Thanks for the comment! Quote
Zorro Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 It looks very nice and resembles the ship from your picture below quite strongly! The fighting is executed pretty well too but I think the flashes could be 'photoshopped' in better (but that has nothing to do with the MOC itself of course). Quote
Captain Green Hair Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 The ship looks quite nide, good proportions and definitely recognizable as an american ship! I think some headrails on the bow might add something to the whole for the next one. It seems like you guys are enjoying your ships, thanks for sharing! Quote
KotZ Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Thanks Commodore, Zorro, and CGH for your comments! The fighting is executed pretty well too but I think the flashes could be 'photoshopped' in better (but that has nothing to do with the MOC itself of course). Capt.JohnPaul used GIMP for the flashes, Zorro. I usually do things like that, but I've had a bit more experience. I didn't feel like doing any at the time, though. (Capt.JohnPAul was also in his room doing a "photo shoot" with the two ships so that's really why I couldn't do it.) I think some headrails on the bow might add something to the whole for the next one.It seems like you guys are enjoying your ships, thanks for sharing! Yes, we are enjoying our ships very much, Captain Green Hair! And I'm sorry, I'm not very good on ship terminology, but I've learned alot from here on CP, but headrails are the things going from the masthead to the tip of the bow? Like the very tip as in "Jack-and-Rose-standing-there-saying 'I fell like Im flying, Jack'" sort of thing?" The headrails as in the little tiny 1x2 and 1x3 plates that link together? Thanks again, guys!! Quote
Captain Genaro Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Do you think with the flag and the curve of the back wall on the poopdeck, and the colour of that wall,it looks like this? (except for it's size ) Well, it looks similar but the cabins side walls do have a curve to them in the picture while your's are more squared. Yeah, I agree, I also think the broadsides also kind of look likes this: (ship on the right) The only difference is the 2 gun decks. And here, other then the planks, does the top of our ship have the same kind of looks? And darn those internet people with writing on the pics! Our ship. Thanks again.
