[KEY TOPIC] Official LEGO Sets made in LDD

LUNAR LIMO 5984

had to account for missing launcher and for some reason the side panels had to be a stud off, and the Gatling gun wouldn't fit right. also had to modify the wings slightly.

And now for some more. From Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace:

4485 MINI Sebulba's Podracer and Anakin's Podracer

I know this is made to match the real sets. But if you just try to swap

the trans orange bar 4L into another trans colour like this for instance

you get a better "real" look at it.

That is what I did on my Minis. Looks way better

Variations of official sets are welcome, but as additional lxf file.

The main file should be correct and similar to the original model as much as possible.

Seeing as I spent my build time last night constructing the Limo for this thread and had nothing for todays Brick... I used the limo. Turned out visually pretty good. The gag feels rushed though.

I actually made the bar that colour first and then remembered that LEGO uses orange for its podracers. :sceptic:

Rather than create and upload an extra LXF file for just a single recolour, I'll let whoever downloads it unleash their own creativity.

I have made some other MODs along the way that you'll see shortly.

set 5983 Undercover cruiser.

With the more complex than normal construction of this set, I was surprised to see how few changes I needed to make. There was a piece for the wings that I had to replicate with other pieces on the cruiser, and there was a CD issue on the small bandit flier wings I had to compensate for, but otherwise it was pretty painless. And once I got the hang of it, transforming it back and forth from one form to the other got pretty easy. (If you're new to LDD, it hates complex alignments.)

Once again Randal, I'm giving you my utmost token of respect, which is this smiley:

:oh:

It's simply brilliant to illustrate movement like that. I've never seen it before!

It's time consuming, but easy. I'll show you how to do it in my "LDD screenshot improvement" thread.

Index updated.

Greetings! We reach 100 sets (and more!).

@Randal

You don't specify Bat Tumbler set number.

I suppose an incomplete version of set 7888. Am I right?

That is correct. I forgot to do the joker's truck. The pic I show for the undercover cruiser doesn't show the bad guy's speeder, but the LXF has it.

Of course. I'm actually building the sets a lot quicker than I'm posting them.

MINI Y-Wing Fighter (made with parts collected from four other MINI sets)

LXF File

For indexing purposes, could you list what four set numbers are used to make this? I think a great way for Superkalle to add this to the index would be to write (just making up four random set numbers for demonstration purposes) 8649+8589+7362+8134 MINI Y-Wing Fighter.

That's the notation LEGO often uses on the backs of boxes for combo models, or on the Power Miners website for combo model building instructions. And while this is not a typical combo model (since it uses only extra pieces packaged for this purpose alone), it still is the same in principle (set made from parts of four other sets).

Here's one of four TECHNIC models that can be built from the 8022 TECHNIC Starter Set -- an airplane. Taxiing the airplane's wheels on the ground turns the propeller. The 117-piece set from 1993 can also build a race car, a robot, and a tow truck. See the page-by-page building instruction scans at http://www.brickfactory.info/set/index.html if you want to build any or all of these models with spare parts that you already have on hand. :classic:

Modelling the airplane in LDD 3.1 wasn't too bad; the main challenge was to mesh the various gears and rotate the canopy into alignment. Due to a lack of TECHNIC parts selection within LDD 3.1 "LEGO Universe Mode", I had to substitute 32013 for 3651 TECHNIC Connectors, and the smallest-available wheels that had a TECHNIC axle hole instead of the proper 3482c02 wheels.

Sure. Sorry about that. :classic:

The MINI TIE Bomber is made from extra pieces in 4484, 4485, 4486 and 4487.

The MINI Y-Wing Fighter is made from extra pieces in 4488, 4489, 4490 and 4491.

I couldn't put the treasure chest inside the plane (or one of the diamonds in the chest!). Stickers and printed parts are missing.

Some Atlantis sets. I don't know why I hadn't done some of these before. They're very fun and look cool. For some reason, LU mode doesn't have the Atlantis Helmet, so I had to make do with modifying another one to look like it had tanks.

In order of appearance, from left to right, top to bottom:

30042 Mini Sub

8072 Sea Jet

20013 Neptune Microsub

8079 Shadow Snapper

8057 Wreck Raider

8060 Typhoon Turbo Sub

not much modification on this one. Just the launcher and there was some CD issues with the top of the nose

I've always been a fan of the undersea exploration stuff, but this Atlantis stuff has some really nice lines. I might even like it more than SPIII.

About 75% of the way through 3723 Minifig Sculpture. Not particularly difficult to do, but the layered building instructions are trickier to follow in LDD than I'd imagined. May have to try some smaller ones next, as my main laptop is off to the menders and LDD is a bit of a squeeze on a netbook! Definitely getting better at using LDD though, I'd recommend trying some official sets to anyone wanting to get used to it.
