My entry for the Eastern Medieval Life category in CCCVII. The scene is depicting a medieval Orthodox church being visited by Rus warriors. It took me a while to find the appropriate techniques to achieve what i had in mind, the result really satisfies me:

Very nice architectural details, and a good color selection. I like the way you created the crosses and the extra details like the stain glass window in the back/side (from your FlickR image). Great job on this. Front-paged!

Being Russian Orthodox myself, this warms my LEGO filled heart :sweet:

I like how you've put the little graveyard alongside the Church (common placement in the old days! ) and how you paid attention to creating the slanted lower crosspieces. Great job on the domes, too...

While I'm not sure if it's relevant to the particular church scene...the horse is quite magnificent, making me think of the Peter the Great monument in St. Petersburg.

Great work all in all!

Being one of those "russians" I think i have to add my two cents here...

- the building itself captures the typical Church, as long as the cementry

- in most cases the sphere-shaped roofs are not black, however the color used in the MOC brings more atmosphere - i don't have any objections

- the fence shows that the church is poor - may be this church is located in the village etc.

- i don't think i've ever seen any monuments located so close to the church - i'll double check :)

Many thanks for the MOC! It really looks very russian!

i loosely based the church on Church of the Intercession on the Nerl, which has black roofs and white walls and the church from Call of Duty-Modern Warfare (the cherbobyl mission). your comments are most appreciated.

Amazing! It's always great to see medieval MOCs from outside of Western Europe.

Your domes are fantastic, as is the horse, great use of the minifig leg. I love the reserved colour palette too, and love how the church mosaics provide some vibrant colours, the turntable bases work really well here. Speaking of which, the use of a turntable base as a cross for a tombstone is ingenious, I've never seen that before, great work. I love the silver crosses too, although they're the Western crosses as opposed to the Russian Orthodox crosses. It may look a little messy, but have you tried adding some light grey hands on either side of the cross?

Stunning work Artizan, and good luck for the contest. :classic:

Wow, pretty good shapes achieved in MOC being sized so small!

Just wondering how did you connect black plates creating that oval roof above southern gate? It tickles my eye a bit, although I like how you handled murals, simple but effective.

Cemetery's just brilliant, dissimilarity and disorder of it's crosses is so graveyardish.

I like the idea of melting snow, haven't see that before!

As for the horse, I'm speechless, just keep up the good work!

Greetings from Serbia!

Wow, the landscaping work you've done is really impressive. There are many interesting and unusual techniques on display here.
