the enigma that is badger Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 Hot on the heels of the recently-added Trans Packs, Will has now also added 4 great new Chrome Packs to the BrickArms line-up: Modern, Scifi, Demolition, and Blade Packs! All BrickArms chrome accessories are produced via electroplating where the chrome is electromagnetically bonded to the part. It's the highest quality process of chroming there is, and these chrome parts won't chip or flake! Each pack is $16 and is ready for order today! These are limited edition packs, and when they're gone, there's no guarantee they'll be available again. Quote
CommanderFox Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 (edited) CHROMIE!!!!!!! No chiping???! Will what else do you have installed for us!? That is Amazingly beautiful! It will definitly help in future MOCs and contests! Thanks for showing badger CommanderFox Edited December 2, 2009 by CommanderFox Quote
Topsy Cret Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 Now THIS is neat. I very much like the idea of no chipping. I think I might get the blade pack just to replace LEGO's daggers. Quote
knuclear200x Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 s-s-s-sixteen dollars?! how DO they DO it?! Quote
Carbohydrates Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 I got a bag of these when they were available at Brickcon, and they're definitely right about the 'no chipping.' They're incredibly industrious. Quote
the enigma that is badger Posted December 2, 2009 Author Posted December 2, 2009 s-s-s-sixteen dollars?! how DO they DO it?! If you mean to imply the price point is high, electroplating is a *very* expensive process, and the pricing of these packs does reflect that. However, I would note that the price per accessory of each of the packs is approximately $2, only slightly higher than the standard ABS accessories available on the BrickArms site. As such, for the quality of the chrome accessories you're getting in these packs, it's an exceptionally good value they're definitely right about the 'no chipping.' They're incredibly industrious. That's from the electroplating! It's expensive, but the quality is truly breathtaking! Quote
PMJ Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 WOW! That is amazing! More chrome than I've ever seen from Lego this year! Now that I think about it, mmm, chrome! Quote
Omicron Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 MMMM Chrome Purchased these at Brickfair, and they are super nice. -Omi Quote
Grimmy Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 (edited) Plastic can be electroplated? That's something new to me. Learn something every day. I've had metal car parts electroplated for a custom car I had and it's much better then chrome dipping which chips. But I'm curious as to how plastic can be electroplated since plastic is not a conductive material. The swords looks especially awesome and having a nice chrome hand gun would be great too! I've read the website before and I'm impressed. Edited December 3, 2009 by Grimmy Quote

the enigma that is badger Posted December 3, 2009 Author Posted December 3, 2009 But I'm curious as to how plastic can be electroplated since plastic is not a conductive material. The solution is to make it conductive! The plastic that's used to produce the BrickArms chrome items is ABS with small particles of nickle suspended in the plastic. The nickle component makes the plastic conductive enough for the electroplating process to work. Quote
Grimmy Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Nice picture Carbohydrates! It really brings out how good it looks to see it in use. Isn't that minifig holding it with his hand upside down though? lol I've still yet to figure out which side is supposed to be up but I always thought it felt more right with the curved part on the bottom but usually when I get minifgs they have the curved part on top. The solution is to make it conductive! The plastic that's used to produce the BrickArms chrome items is ABS with small particles of nickle suspended in the plastic. The nickle component makes the plastic conductive enough for the electroplating process to work. Ahhh I see. I was scratching my head for a bit and thinking him, I wonder if they could mix metal into the plastic. Nickle! I see now. Thanks for info, I'm always curious of how things are made. Quote
ILikePi Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 I love them all (heck, I'm a sucker for all chrome parts)! Unfortunately I won't be buying these as I need to conserve my LEGO budget for the new 2010 things (collectible minifigs!), but I always like to see new products from our favorite custom LEGO weapons maker! Rayman Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Argh! I can't believe I ordered the Blades and Sci-Fi pack from toywiz a few weeks ago would have saved a fortune on international shipping ($50 for both packs : \) Anyway I am glad that Will has decided to make BA in special colours more widely avaliable. I can also vouch for the durability of the chrome finish. They're TOUGH, and the pieces make a very satisfying metallic "tink" when dropped onto a surface. They're the next best thing to steel parts. Isn't that minifig holding it with his hand upside down though? Usually I orient the hands the other way, but I couldn't get this pose that way! I wanted the revolver pointed straight up for the pic.
