Legostein Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 (edited) Hello dear community! Sometimes when you only build mini spacecraft you feel the need of building something different. So I'd like to take a closer look at one of the most beautiful castle sets of all times! It was originally released 23 years ago in the year 1986, and had a revival 7 years ago in 2002 within the “Legends” line of popular sets. If you haven’t guessed it yet, we’re talking about the “Black Falcon’s Fortress”. Its shape is more elegant than that of a standard fortress, having 45° edged towers and a chateau-like main building. When you enjoy building small – like me for example – headlight bricks and 1x1 clip tiles seem to be obvious choices for building micro castles. Fortunately the Black Falcon’s Fortress’ shape provides some more challenges. The roof construction of the yellow half-timbering building is very angled and needed the new 1x1x2/3 and 1x2x2/3 slopes. The main gate is an old pirate ship window frame, as all conventional arch bricks would have been too wide. It’s a nice trick when you’re in need of an 1x2 arch. For the edged towers an almost forgotten piece, the 2x2x3 octagonal brick, was nice find. I also tried to imitate the original background of the set. Shown above is a rendering image. It is together with more views of the castle, as well as instructions, available on BrickShelf as soon as having been moderated: Mini 6074 Black Falcon's Fortress on BrickShelf That’s it for now. Thanks for stepping by! ~ Christopher Edited October 24, 2009 by Legostein Quote

Legostein Posted October 18, 2009 Author Posted October 18, 2009 (edited) Hello! Thank you for your reply! You don't like it? Then tell me. You like it? Tell me, too! But come on, I told everyone in the original post that the full gallery has yet to be moderated. During the week-end this takes usually longer, as also the BrickShelf admins deserve some week-end. That's why you embed deeplink images in your post. They always show up. Regards, ~ Christopher Edited October 18, 2009 by Legostein Quote
Wout Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 That looks great. I like it very much. @ Castle fan: Sometimes you just have to wait a day for new pics on Brickshelf are updated. Quote
Sir Dillon Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 Nice build Legostein! The octagonal pieces for the towers was a good choice, and the window frame as a gate is quite clever. While it is hard to tell with only one angle, it looks to me like the castle is too small compared to the towers. You can see in this image of the official set (from dj2005) that the bottom of the roof is about level with the top of the towers. In comparison your model seems out of proportion. ... Castle Fan, if you don't have anything to say, don't post. Quote
Legostein Posted October 18, 2009 Author Posted October 18, 2009 Thank you Sirs! I raised the walls by a plate, making the towers less tall. Proportions are really tricky on this one. Thanks for your input! Cheers, ~ Christopher Quote
Batbrick Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 Haha, it's adorable! I espeically love how you've made the black section, as well as the flag Batbrick Away! Quote
Milan Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 Little too late, but I just have to praise this great MOC. I really like your work, man. It looks so nice, and despite its size, very detailed in some way. You really deserve MOC expert tag! Quote
Sir Dillon Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 Nice updates! The height change is subtle but makes a nice difference, and the variation to the walls looks good. The addition of a tree and base completes the model well. Quote
Legostein Posted October 28, 2009 Author Posted October 28, 2009 Good morning! Thank you again for the comments, and thank you for the constructive criticism. That's exactly what I appreciate. A motivation to improve it. Such comments not only improve the creation itself, but also your building skills as well. Thanks and see you around! ~ Christopher Quote
starwarsfanatic Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 Amazing work. You should try making some other classic castle sets if you haven't already. Keep up the good work and keep posting. Jolly good. Quote
