Minifig Lecturer Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 Hi all, I decided to post some pics of my first castle in a long long time. I mainly focus on town stuff but after speaking to my friend's 8 year old kid I wanted to show him that Lego castle's can look cool (not just Playmobil, as he believes).. The castle was never finished, but the front was more or less done. It is a rush job and Im sure people can spot it. I even messed up the portcullis, forgot to leave grooves. Well that's what can happen if you don't build a castle in about 15 years however I was happy with the front (esp the brown thingy, as last time I made a castle I didnt have one brown piece), and Keep (kinda), although the inside yards needed some work, maybe some houses, barns/stables etc but I realised my horses were in my parents house so... However I must say it was a pleasure to be building castle again as I felt freer to place bricks any old way without thinking ;) Quote
Big Cam Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 I absolutely love it. Such old pieces, reminds me of my childhood. I only see pieces that are fairly simple and true to the old knights/castle series. My hat's off to you. How long did it take you? Quote
Commodore Hornbricker Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 I think it looks great. Certainly WAY better than anything Playmobile has! I hope you finish it! Quote
Minifig Lecturer Posted September 2, 2009 Author Posted September 2, 2009 How long did it take you? Thanks alot Big Cam. Yes, as you can see alot of the pieces look old, kinda yellowy, but I was thinking that it added to the overall look of a higgledy-piggeldy castle feel so I was happy using those pieces. It took about 3 hours but of course was never finished. Quote

I would have died to make a Castle like that when I was 7. Quote
ziljin Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 I like the castle and the high amount of peasant minifigs. I wish they made peasant impulse sets/minfig packs. Medieval Market Village is too expensive just for the peasants/villagers. Quote
Basiliscus Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 Good work. It has a nostalgic feel that is difficult to capture, but you've done well on that front. Nice minifig placement. I really like the SNOT work for the hoardings. Hope to see more castles from you! Quote
Sir Dillon Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 Well done! There are a few rough areas, such as where the rocks meet the castle walls, but they can probably be excused to the speed with which you built this, let alone the time since your last castle. Were you able to change boy's mind about LEGO castles? I hope we see more castle themed creations from you in the future. Quote
brickzone Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 It's a nice model for something built quickly - whatever about individual patchy bits, the overall effect is good and it looks like a great backdrop for castle play or sieges and such. Incidentally I'm very envious of the Cypress trees! Quote
JeffD984 Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 This is great! The castle has a certain spontaneity about it that gives off a classic yet unique feel! Well done! Quote
Captain Blackmoor Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 I like that castle! Built with simple bricks, it reminds me of my early days. It may use some refining but so far the castle looks great to me. Quote
