Etzel Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 Hi there! A while ago I posted my version of the pirate set 6242 Soldier's Fort that I'd turned into the medieval times. That MOC got lot of positive comments so I decided to try the same thing with another set, the Volcano Base from the Agents theme. Before I'd seen the picture of the upcoming Troll's Mountain Fortress I thought that that set might look a little like this MOC actually. A lot of brown pieces and lava coming down on the sides. But I'm not disappointed at the real set that we are going to get, it looks really nice :) Anyway, enough talking, lets bring on those pictures! More pictures can be found on my Brickshelf (when moderated) or Flickr Thank you for watching, I hope you liked it It you have opinions or comments please post them, I would like to hear what you think of my MOC. RangerBob Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 looks cool. I especially like the idea with the lorry Quote
mania3 Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 Wow that is pretty neat. It's amazing how well the troll concept meshes with the general structure of that Agents base. Quote
Guss Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 ahah excellent^^ I love how you "transformed" it, that's very cool ! Quote
Sandy Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 Another fun idea with a great execution! Only the hinge-pieces look a little odd, since they leave such a wide gap in between the different sections (does the original Volcano Base have that type of hinges as well?). Also, just three trolls seems awfully few for a troll base, but I guess you went with the minifig count of the original. Nicely done, in any case! Quote
Sir Dillon Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 Nice modifications! This looks like it would fit well with the rest of the theme. My main suggestion would be to make the doors more defined, either by by changing the pattern or the colours. Right now they blend into the mountain a little too much for my liking. Quote
Raven Brickroft Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 It's how I imagined the Troll's fortress would be since they used these kind of "theme" / construction on the Giant Chess Set. The huge doors would really look better if it were a little more detailed. Something that would make them look more daunting. Quote
Clone OPatra Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 Very nice transformation, and I especially like the detail of the Giant Troll standing ready to fire the catapult. One odd thing that caught my eye though, how do plants survive right next to lava? Not that it matters, after all, this is fantasy! Quote
WhiteFang Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 Etzel, I love it! Seriously, I have the same thoughts when I saw this set released but never managed to get it eventually. I must admit that you have done well by transforming the modern looking elements to medieval looking one with the addition of the brown parts. By the way, did the orignal Volcano Base comes with a dungeon or jail? I noticed there was one in here, and find it to be a good detail along with the rest of the set up and its defenses by using the troll to control the catapult. Great job! Quote
Lordofdragonss Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 Looks awesome! Lego should sell sets like this! Quote
Asuka Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 A great idea and a great MOC too, the volcano scenery and the orcs fit together very well! That little ride of horror´s simply hilarious, although it would be even a little more frightful if the tracks would not be blocked... Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 Very nice Etzel! This creation looks like a lot of fun. Sort of a Dwarf Mine + Agents Volcano Base + Indiana Jones Temple of Doom all rolled into one. I really like the way you designed the track scafelling (for lack of a better name). Having that nice slope makes for a lot of action. This is the kind of creation that you can't help to play with. Great job! Quote
Dwarfinator Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 That actually looks like a real set! Hm... I like the king's throne... Quote
Batbrick Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 Wonderful creation Etzel! As a Castle and Agents fan, I heartily approve of this awesome reimagining! I love how the overall look of the base is maintained, yet made to look like a Troll's "Temple of Doom" like TheBrickster said. The monorail-turned-mining cart is probably my favourite part, a very clever design there, and I love how it is just going to flip the princess straight into the lava! The front, changed to have orc swords and a catapult is very cool, but I think there needs to be more detail on the doors, like shields or tusks or something. The little forts to each side are my other favorite bits, I especially the one at the mining cart, with the stacks of 1x1 brown cylinders. Good place ot stick the flag too. The back is brilliant too, a great improvement over the rather empty interior of the original. My favourite bits are the jail cell with weapons stash, and the King's throne with weapons. Nice Giant troll placing too. Overall one of the more awesome mocs I've ever seen, keep up the great work! Batbrick Away! Quote
The Who Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 The throne there seems a tad out of place, but otherwise, a great MOC/MOD indeed. Quote
I Scream Clone Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 Awesome rendition of the Agents base! I love the train tracks, as well as the ramparts where the orcs are observing everything. I agree with Sir Dillon on the doors blending in a little too much, but otherwise, great work! Quote
UsernameMDM Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 I was actually hoping the real set would look like this. Quote
captaincreek Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 This is a very nice Moc, well done on this one. Quote
