Hinckley Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 For those of you who have been following the secret competition, here's the latest installment. The remaining contestants were asked to create a new theme and build a set from it in the $30 USD price range. The theme they created is 21st Century Pirates. Which one is your favorite? 1. A communiqué from the Pirate Spokseman! The Pirates have seized a valuable cargo ship and its crew, and now it’s time for the owners to pay a ransom or the crew is going to get it! Arriving on the assault raft, the Pirates use the Pirate Outpost as a filming area, taping their message to broadcast with their powerful digital transmitter. If the Pirates’ demands aren’t met, the crew of the captured ship may find themselves food for the local sharks! • Includes Pirate Spokesman, Pirate Cameraman, and two other Pirate minifigures! • Also includes Hostage minifigure! • Chase down prizes with the assault raft. • Pirate Outpost has a machine gun tower, communications dish, control cabin and plenty of weapons! _________________________________ 2. Oil-Rig Outpost The evil pirates have made their lair on an abandoned oilrig. Plenty of weapons and flick-fire missles keep the heroic navy at bay. Can the pirates' hostage escape on the raft or will he succumb to Stockholm syndrome? Includes three pirates, one hostage with reversable head. _________________________________ 3. Brush with the Navy Will the Pirates get away with their booty? The pirates just plundered a cruise ship and they struck gold! But on their way back they run into a patrolling Naval ship...HMAS Perth! Can they avoid the 5 inch shells and get back to their base without being followed? Includes Captain Louis Rago™ and 2 pirate minifigures! HMAS Perth measures 26 cm long! There are no stupid shooting features in this set! Each pirate has their own high speed RHIB! Includes a Gold Brick and Pink treasure box! The ship feature two RADARs including the legendary SPS-52C! _________________________________ 4. Speedboat assault! Attack luxury yachts in the fast speedboat, steal their riches or blow them out of the water with the bazooka! Pieces: 297 Year: 2008 Age: 16+ Retail price: 29,99$ Baseplate not included.
furious Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 I like 1 and 3 but I voted for 1 since I feel it is a better photograph. I can see more of what is going on. I feel 3 is missing some detail like more navy men.
WhiteFang Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 This competiton is getting so much exciting. The 21st century theme pirates, reflect modern days' piracy. In this way, we can't use old school cannon ball and sails to conquer the high sea. Well, I must said that all 4 entries has modelled well, and have placed much efforts to make it look realistic and exciting. Great job everyone! After thinking for awhile, my vote goes to the 1st entry. First of all, this creation is similar to those pirates, hiding in those islands, placing their base of operations in this small village. The color contrast of the wooden facade, plus modern technologies such as radar, rifles and speedboats are some key items which are supposed to be present for a hit and run formation planning in its base. The pending execution for the hostage, is well implemented.
Guss Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 it seems that everyone love the first entry ^^ I simply love it, so I voted for it !
Lt. Col. Thok Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 I disagree! Entry four is well built, and has some interesting pieces. Therefore, it has my vote.
VBBN Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Strange, I'm running a similar contest at BH... Anywho, I'm going for the last one. Seems like something I would buy.
Hinckley Posted November 6, 2008 Author Posted November 6, 2008 Strange, I'm running a similar contest at BH... Why is it strange? This one has been running since May...
Stealth Hunter Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Entry 4 for the win. There is nothing better than blowing up yachts with a bazooka.
VBBN Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Why is it strange? This one has been running since May... I had never heard of this contest until now, and it's just a coincidence that we are running such similar competitions. Looking great so far guys! The more I look, the more I like entry 3. A nice military boat indeed.
Hinckley Posted November 6, 2008 Author Posted November 6, 2008 I had never heard of this contest until now, and it's just a coincidence that we are running such similar competitions. Are you running a secret elimination competition? Or a new LEGO theme competition? Or a 21st Century Pirates competition?
BlueBard Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 I voted for the fourth one. Those two boats are so nice!
VBBN Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 (edited) Are you running a secret elimination competition? Or a new LEGO theme competition? Or a 21st Century Pirates competition? The middle one. Different rules, but a similar concept. I voted for the fourth one. Those two boats are so nice! Yes! And the small black/red boat looks like the boat that was in the indy movie. Remember? The brown ones, that Indy sends through the two cargo carrier ships. Very nice and realistic. Edited November 6, 2008 by ~VBBN~
Hinckley Posted November 6, 2008 Author Posted November 6, 2008 The middle one. Phew, we finally figured it out! I will check it out. Thanks for the link...
hewkii9 Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 I voted for entry 1 - I love brown log bricks, and it's the most detailed of them IMO. I disagree! Entry four is well built, and has some interesting pieces. Therefore, it has my vote. Did you build it, by any chance?
Omega 8 Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 The Pirate Speedboat in the 4th "set" in NICE!
samthelegoman1 Posted November 9, 2008 Posted November 9, 2008 I like the speed boat chase one. I would love a luxurious yacht in a set!
