New 3d Print Prototypes

Recommended Posts

I've got some examples from the 3d print shop for some shako designs.

Here are some results:

The prints are not in fine print modus, they are only to verify the principle design. They have fit immedeatly, and so far they are ok.

The following designs are available and will be uploaded soon:

- French shako (smaller then in the picture, a plumb on top, ...)

- Hussar (more expanded, maybe without plume)

- Ulan

- Dragoon

- Austrian Grenadier

It looks good, but the pictures are way to small to judge correctly. They do look a litle like some tiseu, but that could be the light or small picture.

The folder seems to be public now:

Yes you are right, the surface looks a little bit crumped, but that should be improved with a finer printing granularity.

If not, some improvement can be done with sand paper.

At least I can show the possibilities which can be reached with the current status of 3d print:

- the items fit to the minifig head

- the borders with 1 mm are sufficent

- the 3d creation process can be done with open source means (k3d) - stl export has been written by me

- there's a public print shop available

- everybody can buy from this shop

- best case price can be seen with the french style shako after loading up the improved design

- nearly all sort of items can be created with this procedure

- it's a good an inexpensive mean for fast 3d prototyping even without cnc tools

Drawbacks:

- it seems that some final handling is needed (sand paper or some varnish)

- the price is maybe a little to big for mass buys, let's see the final calculation

Your prototypes look very good.

I love the shakos, especcialy the ones for the hussars.

The current prices, stated in your other thread, are too high for me to use for all units, since I live in Belgium were we can find the originals really cheap.

With massproduction the prices might (or not) change. I will keep a close eye on your threads.

However, I might order some for my cavalry if they come available, for my officers or smaller units, that is.

Your molds are fantastic, I must admit that.

The shop has adapted it's price (as I hope correctly) and now the price is given as 3,18, which seems attractive to me now.

Please beware this objet isn't verified yet. There are 2 further waiting for the printing OK (dragoon, hussar). Then I will buy the first charge and present the results.

Now all Hats have become printable and are ordered.

Currently we have:

- French Shako

- Ulan Shako

- Dragoon helmet

- Grenadier Shako (Austrian)

- Hussar Kolpack

Here's a link to the missing Dragoon Shako Model:

http://shop.rapidobject.com/shop/de/products/view/428

The prices for Ulan and Dragoon seems now acceptable, but for the others not, so I've opened a 2nd printing resource for the french model, which can be seen here:

http://www.shapeways.com/model/8103/french_shako.html

(Other material, white, better price, acceptable for mass ordering)

Also here a order is pending. With some luck I can present the results next week.
