Alldarker Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 At firest glance it looks good, but you cut the tracks!!! How could you? Quote
Aaron Morse Posted October 2, 2008 Author Posted October 2, 2008 With a utility knife ;-) Actually its the first time I've ever modified lego before. My youngest boy actually asked me if I was ok after I had completed the deed. In fact I felt as if I had broken the law or something. I waited 20 minutes but the Lego Commandos never came to assassinate me. It was purely a case of "these tracks were too small and these tracks were too big, but this knife is just the right size!" At firest glance it looks good, but you cut the tracks!!! How could you? Quote
Zorro Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 Looks very good to me, including the tracks. Keep up the good work. Quote
Silent Help Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 I know how you feel about those treads... Very good looking from the front. It's nice to see a good looking tank that you can see some studs on. (Not all done with SNOT.) The main gun and around the drivers looks very clean and pretty, which contrasts nicely to the plain sides. If you happen to not like the tank feel free to send it to a good home like mine. Quote
Captain Green Hair Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 Nice, the shape looks really accurate! I'd never cut those tracks, they are simply too expensive :/ I also think 13 wide is a bit much for this tank, 10 would be max if it were minifig scale, but that's personal i guess. You can deeplink images in your post, a tutorial on how to do so is in the tutorial index. (link in my sig) Keep up the good work! Quote
Aaron Morse Posted October 2, 2008 Author Posted October 2, 2008 (edited) I took your advice and deeplinked the images. and here's a pic of the two earlier StuG III models in convoy with some other Indiana Jones German vehicles. Edited October 2, 2008 by Aaron Morse Quote
Guss Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 ahah ! nice ! but they're leaving no tracks in the mud :P Quote

I started out at 3wide for each track and 5 for the main body, but the body looked to small compared to the tracks. Even after the tracks went under the scalpel, it still looked not quite wide enough. Here's a pic of a real stug for comparison. ahah ! nice ! but they're leaving no tracks in the mud :P It looks like mud but its actually cement that's drained away from a new construction mixed into a dried river bed, meaning it looks like mud but its hard as a rock, so I get a nice pic and get to keep the lego (and my shoes) clean. Well, minifig scale is roughly 1:39, if a fig was to be 1.70 meters tall. The real Stug 3 is 295m wide, so 295 / 39 = 7,6 centimeters, divided by 0,8cm (stud) = about 9,5 - 10 studs. But scale is something personal in Lego IMO, i just like to keep it in the 1:39 scale so i can transport 'm on trains and such. Point is, if you think it looks good, it does Quote

(or does that give problem with the wheels?) The frontal armour on next to the gun is too low though. TT Quote
Captain Green Hair Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 But for your Tiger you'll need seperate tracks beside the main tracks ;)TT No i won't Quote
Captain Zuloo Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 I like this - Alot. And I think it's because of the plates on the side. It reminds me of armour plating. Good MOC. I really like it - very detailed. Quote
Tanotrooper Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 No i won't Well, the German trains that carried the Tiger I(I) needed a larger train to transport it and therefore needed an extra rails (about half the size as the main rails) next to it in order to get the train rolling No such problems with the Panzer (1-4) Models though (I don't know exactly for the Panther though) TT Quote

Aaron Morse Posted October 16, 2008 Author Posted October 16, 2008 All i know they had extra wide transport cars, nothing about extra rails though...any link or info on that? I know with the King Tiger they had to remove the road tracks and put on special tracks in order that a passing train on the next train track over wouldn't scrape the passing train...way too wide! Also here's a new pic of my StuGs with some camo and some infantry hitching a ride Quote
Captain Green Hair Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 That camo looks great Aron, that's an idea worth stea...err lending! Quote
Guss Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 niceee , you soon will have a camouflaged tank army :P what happened to the poor tank at the left ? ^^ Quote
Rijkvv Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 I'm not a big fan of LEGO-cutting. However, a really nice MOC! And I think it has the right dimensions. Great job! Quote

They could transport all of their tanks by rail, except the (infamous) Elephant tanks. They were just wayyy too large and heavy, they tried it once and they needed one locomotive for every 1 or two Elephants...says one of my Third Reich books... Thomas B. Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 How could you modify parts? Where do you live? Tell me now! I am reporting you to TLG! Oh, I modify parts too, so you did nothing wrong. I really like the design of the MOC. Good job. Quote
Aaron Morse Posted October 19, 2008 Author Posted October 19, 2008 I knew the Lego Enforcers would catch up to me sooner or later... good thing Ive got a fairly decent sized army to protect my person ;-) How could you modify parts? Where do you live? Tell me now! I am reporting you to TLG! Oh, I modify parts too, so you did nothing wrong. I really like the design of the MOC. Good job. Quote
