SirNadroj Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 (edited) Hey! I may have mentioned this, but I'm not sure. My lego workshoppe got flooded (AKA my basement), so the whole thing is being torn up and re-done. So at the end of this project, I'll end up with some nice new furniture and shelves to work on. Unfortunately, I'm away from my LEGO. :-( It's been about a week now, and if you know me, you'll know that's WAY to long for me to go without building something. ;-) So I made this vignette, loosely based on a poem that struck my fancy. Here's the poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow: A Psalm of Life: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Psalm_of_Life Again, this is only looesly based on the poem. I was really inspired by only one stanza to make this vig: "Lives of great men all remind us We can make our lives sublime, And, departing, leave behind us Footprints on the sands of time;" So ture, indeed. But what this particular vig represents, since it's really only based on this stanza, is to live life to the fullest and make your positive mark on the world, because life's too short. And death surrounds us, but that should not be what we live to do. To die. Does that make sense? ;-) Any-whoo, this vignette may have individual interpetations, and I hope to make some more vigs based on poems, songs, etc in the future! :-) (The vig is supposed to be multi-level. The top level is the ground, where the skeletons are is supposed to be underground.) More photos can be found on my flicr, of course! http://www.flickr.com/photos/sirnadroj/ Thanks ~ looking foward to your feedback! :-) Edited May 5, 2008 by imperialshadows Quote
Scouty Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 Very interesting creation, Sir Jordan! Some things I like about it: -The roots of the tree look neat (or rather dirty ;-) ) and realistic. -The footprints was done in an unexpected, yet great way. -Presuming this would be in the desert, the tree looks geographically correct. Great overall! One complaint though, your photos are very over contrasted, and may result in a loss of detail. Is this on purpose? Edit: Oh, forgot to mention: I hope all goes well with basement *sweet* Quote
iamded Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 Very cool, SirNadroj! I love the use of minifig legs and peg-legs as the tree roots. This is over-all a very interesting vig! I hope you get back in full swing soon, I wish you all the best! *y* ~Peace Quote
casewindu Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 Another great vig Sir Nadroj, I really like the footprints in the sand and the roots from the bottom of the tree, really clever! ;-) Quote
SirNadroj Posted February 27, 2008 Author Posted February 27, 2008 Thanks for the feedback! Glad you like it. I'm hopefully gonna start another little vig with what I have available to me tonight, based on the Third Impression of Karn Evil 9 (song by Emerson, Lake and Palmer [one of my favorite bands of all time. ;-) ]) But that's if everything goes accordingly. X-D One complaint though, your photos are very over contrasted, and may result in a loss of detail. Is this on purpose?Edit: Oh, forgot to mention: I hope all goes well with basement *sweet* Yeah, sometimes I go crazy with the contrast. I just like the look of the bright colours against a white background. I get that suggestion all the time, and I always forget when I clean up ma' photos. :-$ Oh, thanks! :-) Quote

That's horrible... has any lego been damaged? From what I recall, the pics you posted of your lair were really cool. Hope it all turns out well. ;-) As for the MOC: It's great, but not quite as good as your others- I've seen you make better trees, this one seems a bit square, but if you're been away from your lego, you must have been a bit handicapped. As for the parrot- X-O did you add a clip to the bottom? I might have to try that... Will Quote

I had to break a lot of my sets and MOCs in order to store them in buckets. I salvaged a lot of MOCs though. My old workshoppe was nice, but very, very disorganized. I'll be a little more neat this time around. ;-) The tree may seem a little square due to the fact it's only 2 x 2 studs wide. I tried to use lots of little peices for the tree itself ~ ewok legs, piraka spines, legs, etc. I didn't have a black clip on hand, so I used a regular minifigure hand. I looks 100 times better than a clip, but is 100 times less stable. X-D Thanks! Edited February 28, 2008 by SirNadroj Quote
ExoBuilder Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 Flooded? That's horrible X-O I hope everything gets better. This is a great scene, The footprints are ingenious! *y* The roots of the tree look great, you did a good job on those *y* The one thing I don't like is the fig, I do not like the Tan and Flesh combination. Other then that, it's great! *y* *sweet* Quote
MicVash Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 I've never seen something like that footprint idea before and so that was very very clever and it looks really great. Your whole vig is quite clever actually. I like how even though death is stowed away beneath the earth, it still manages to linger out from the ground and creep about as seen from the gnarled tree with a black bird perched on it and the single skull settled in the sand. SirNadroj Posted February 28, 2008 Author Posted February 28, 2008 Thanks! *sweet* The one thing I don't like is the fig, I do not like the Tan and Flesh combination. Yeah, I agree. But I really wanted to use the Henry Jones Sr. head, so I didn't have much of a choice. ;-) I like how even though death is stowed away beneath the earth, it still manages to linger out from the ground and creep about as seen from the gnarled tree with a black bird perched on it and the single skull settled in the sand. Thanks! I'm glad someone interpeted that! :-D Quote

I like the technique with the bird's claws. I might have to "borrow" that idea... *y* Quote
Lt. Col. Thok Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 A very nice (but somewhat depressing) vig, Sir N! Quote
