Epic Technic Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 (edited) Time to unveil my latest creation, the crawler crane. Years ago I saw a nat. geo. documentary on a station in the south pole. During the construction of it, there was a crawler crane with a three section boom. Fast forward to April 2015, I built a three section boom for a crawler crane but due to having too many projects, it was never finished. When I saw the crane competition I realized that this was the perfect opportunity to make a crawler crane. M_longer Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 Boom:extension: -1 XL motor Raising/lowering: -1 L motor Why you have used XL motor for extending the boom? Quote
Epic Technic Posted November 1, 2015 Author Posted November 1, 2015 Why you have used XL motor for extending the boom? Many gears = Friction = more torque needed Quote
M_longer Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 Many gears = Friction = more torque needed How many? Quote
Epic Technic Posted November 1, 2015 Author Posted November 1, 2015 How many? 8 normal gears plus one worm gear. It was the only way to make it this compact. Quote
M_longer Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 8 normal gears plus one worm gear. It was the only way to make it this compact. I think that 8 gears would allow to make reduction and use M motor for that function. Quote
Epic Technic Posted November 1, 2015 Author Posted November 1, 2015 I think that 8 gears would allow to make reduction and use M motor for that function. Well I really needed to use my m motor for the superstructure rotation due to size constraints. Quote
