nerdsforprez Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 Yea, I also fear that we won't get the second half of 2015 sets, like the MB Arocs until much later than everyone else as well. It really puts us at a disadvantage compared to others for those interested in improving/modding a set. I am sure there are certain folk that perhaps get things earlier but not us mere mortals........

The only issue with eBay or Bricklink you don't obtain VIP points which really do help especially during double points months. Not to mention the RPM boxes lego stores keep in their storage rooms worth an additional 500 points at the time of purchase.

Rail Co Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 USA seems to not be getting a lot more sets than other places recently and I am not sure why. For example the new 60098 Heavy Haul Train was available to every other country but the U.S. and maybe Canada and there is no information on if it will be released maybe they are loosing money on certain items or they aren't making enough off them. I do hope that we get the MB Arocs because I really like this set and since it is a Flagship and licensed set I presume we will. -RailCo
Blakbird Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 Nobody can answer this "why" question. Every response is therefore just pure speculation. I'd also be very interested in the answer, but we're not going to find it on Eurobricks. The answer has to be buried in the marketing department, and no one can understand those guys. Decades ago, not only was the release schedule different but even the sets available and the set numbers varied by country. At least at this point we all get them eventually.

My local store uses that term. Basically larger sets that have a damaged box are considered RPM which means they offer additional points at time of purchase. For example when I bought the UCS x-wing I paid 199.99 USD and received 200 VIP points plus 500 RPM points. I always go to the check out counter asking if they have any damaged boxes in the back for this very reason. Generally they only offer this bonus for expensive damaged boxes. LEGO is an international company and each country can make the descision whether to market a set locally or not. Most of the time they do not say no but it does happen like 8258 wasn't sold in Canada.

Maybe the marketing guys need to 'understand' this. Might as well wait until December when everyone is looking for gift ideas. Perhaps not on a relative scale (although I don't have any numbers to prove this) but b/c of the shear population in the US the absolute sale numbers are still larger than many European or other countries. Law of large numbers states...... perhaps there are only 1% of humans out there with schizophrenia but in a world population of billions of people that still leaves tens of millions of people out there that are bat- s@#$ crazy

Corvette3 Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 Technic is definitely not popular in Western Australia, many stores have very small if any Technic sections often consisting of the few smaller releases, and its up to bigger toy stores (none of which are near me) to carry the larger ones, and even they get very few. this one large department store called BIG W has a very large toy section, but only got 3 42030s and i bought the last on they had, last october.

I don't have access to LEGO internal sales number by theme and country but you can get a feel of where Technic is relative to other themes just by attending any North American AFOL conventions. Or look at your LUG and survey what percentage of members are Technic gearheads. Granted that's looking more at TFOL and AFOL popularity of the theme and may not reflect of the parents/relatives/friends buying Technic for children. I think you can hang around a Kmart or Target to see what themes fly off the shelves and what stay put, assuming you don't get kicked out for loitering.
