Bob De Quatre Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 Returning to the OCS Axle after my flight test of the XB-15 (that went surprisingly well), Like all pilots I headed to the debrief coffee room. There the coffee machine informed me that Dr Long was really pissed that I skipped our meeting and even more that I got out on the XB-15. Yes, Octan coffee machine are programmed to talk about gossips while making our favorite beverage. I was mentally preparing for what has to come when Danielle barged in the room. "Erm... Hi Danielle... I mean Dr Long." "Bob... I hope you enjoyed your flight?" "It went well, nothing very interesting, just shooting at harmless things like trees, rocks, or Kawashita's spies." "We have to talk." "But we are talking!" "Don't play dumb with me! I already know you are... Anyway, I need you to pilot something for me, since you're our best pilot. Or at least the best I have at hand." "Ok... So where's that new spaceship?" "Look over there." Danielle points at one corner of the hangar. "You want me to pilot that thing? You are aware that I'm a pilot, not a driver? You really weren't paying attention during the "Choose your job" conference back at the university..." "Of course not. So, now that you agreed, let's get prepared to go." "And you're coming with me?" "This is an experiment and I'm a scientist. And you always liked when the two of us experimented thing at the university..." "Do you remember the chemistry lab incident? That was quite unpleasant! Anyway what is this thing? I can see it has wheels, so I guess it's some sort of car." "Yes, it's a vehicle designed to keep our explorers safe when wandering on unknown planets. There have been lots of reports mentioning fearsome creatures, like the one you encountered on Xerilian." "I still have nightmares about that giant mantis..." "No, not that one. I'm talking of the little black insects that looks like scorpions." "Oh, so that's what this vehicle is supposed to keep our explorer safe from... It could work." "Of course it will work, I designed it!" "Yeah... Well... Let's name it!.. The Cockroach will do!" "I prefer EX-37-45, but if that makes you happy, the Cockroach it is..." We prepared for an exploration on Freegate, where the OCS Axle dropped us. I had not enough time to get familiar with the controls, but it's just a land vehicle so it must be easy to pilot. "Are you sure you got the size of these scorpions right? I think you overdid it..." "Yes, it's perfect. Those pesky insects won't bother us!" "You bet..." "Look, I found a nice specimen! Let's film it thoroughly, get as much data as we can before pulverising it!" "Yes, let's do that..." Danielle manipulated the scorpion for some times, getting samples and filming it in various spectrums, and then destoyed it with the pulverizer attached to one of the Cockroach arms. "The area seems safe now. Could you deploy the cargo hold, we'll get on ground." I pushed a few buttons, hoping for hitting the correct ones. Judging by the pneumatic sounds, I guess I was correct. "Well, now that we're all set up, I'll go take a look at the surroundings." "..." As Danielle was completely absorbed in her scientific thing, I took the rover and got away from the Cockroach. Commander Turtle Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 Nice work Bob! Good to see you've had the time to build a little bigger. Quote
narbilu Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 Excellent! Love the multi part, with the additional cart and the seperate storages Quote
Jody Meyer Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 This is a very creative build, and with lots of great features, excellent build, great little story as well. Quote
NuckElBerg Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 Great build Bob! I love that it both feels like a complete build with and without the attachments in the back. Great integration! Quote
LucasLaughing Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 Wow, awesome vehicle! I love how many details you've fit onto it... the angled front legs look great and I really like the bubble cockpits too. Great work! Quote
mccoyed Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 Another slam dunk vehicle, Bob. I love that it's similar in theme to the Landship, being sort of a mobile base as well as an all-terrain land vehicle. It's got such great design and details, I dunno how you do it! Quote
Kodan Black Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 Great huge vehicle! Feels very Hollywood. I like how you can look at any part and there are fantastic little details. Quote
Bob De Quatre Posted July 6, 2015 Author Posted July 6, 2015 Thanks everyone! I guess that for a rushed 2 days build it turned out not that bad Another slam dunk vehicle, Bob. I love that it's similar in theme to the Landship, being sort of a mobile base as well as an all-terrain land vehicle. It's got such great design and details, I dunno how you do it! Yes they have the same purpose. And in my initial plan, I wanted the cockroach to have a landing pad at the back, for small ships to land Quote
Mike S Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 Awesome build but I think it would look even better in Mantis colors.... Perhaps Octan stole this design from Mantis? Quote
Kai NRG Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 A fantastic vehicle Bob, the shape is perfect! Really like the double cockpit up front and the lowering platform around back is an ingenious addition! The little rover with padded seat is pretty funny! Quote
msx80 Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 wow, that's some super moc. I like the wheel assemblies, the front arms, che composed canopy. All great. And you rushed it?? :) Quote
Garmadon Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 Awesome vehicle Bob, the front cockpit is particularly good and the unfolding back is excellent as well! I do agree that it looks a bit like overdo just to stay safe from the scorpions though! Quote
aeralure Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 (edited) Wow that's amazing Bob! I'm not even sure where to start. So many cool little details! I like the rear lowered ramp and removable canisters, the rear wheel set assembly with the arch pieces, and... more! The overall look is really unique too. Great job! And you rushed it?? :) Yep, rushed... Started friday night, Saturday I didn't had much time but spent all my free time building, finished Sunday morning, took the pictures, wrote the story and that's it Oh and some time to choose the good color for Dr Long's gloves Awesome vehicle Bob, the front cockpit is particularly good and the unfolding back is excellent as well! I do agree that it looks a bit like overdo just to stay safe from the scorpions though! Scorpions are not a threat to take lightly! Edited July 6, 2015 by Bob De Quatre Quote
pombe Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 It's so clean and elegant that it's easy for one to forget how large this build actually is. There's so many wonderful techniques and usage of very difficult to use bricks in this vehicle that really make it outstanding. I also now firmly believe that you cannot make a vehicle that does not have some sort of storage capacity. Quote
LittleJohn Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 Stupendous work, Bob! The tires look excellent and I love the angled cockpit Quote

I like my Octan builds to be able to get some samples or carry some quantities of fuel And yes it's big, I'll need some more shelves space Stupendous work, Bob! The tires look excellent and I love the angled cockpit Thanks LittleJohn. Those are old tires, I have them since more than 20 years ago Quote

Yours is very sculptural and insectoid, while mine is meant to look strong and utilitarian. I'd love to see them next to each other. Also, good to see the Crimson Pilgrim again. One of my favourite MOCs. Edited July 6, 2015 by Commander Turtle Quote
NuckElBerg Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 Also, good to see the Crimson Pilgrim again. One of my favourite MOCs. Oh yes, I really, really love that one, such a beautiful ship (especially since I'm a huge KotOR/SW:TOR fan as well ). I don't think I commended you in the original thread (since I wasn't a member then), so let me praise you here instead! Quote
David FNJ Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 Wow, that design is amazing! Love the front wheels, and the two large cylinders in the back are fantastic. Masterful! Quote
mrcp6d Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Wowzers. For me, the best thing is the bubble canopy in the nose--real-life functional, I love it. Oh, and those jet engines--total win there. And I love the play functions--way too cool how well that lift is integrated. Overall, I'm blown away. Quote
Bob De Quatre Posted July 7, 2015 Author Posted July 7, 2015 Thanks David and mrcp6d I'd love to see them next to each other. Or one over the other, since the landship could almost fit under the Cockroach Also, good to see the Crimson Pilgrim again. One of my favourite MOCs. Thanks. I do'nt pay much attention to it, since I see it everyday Oh yes, I really, really love that one, such a beautiful ship (especially since I'm a huge KotOR/SW:TOR fan as well ).
