SavaTheAggie Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 As I mention on in my PowerPoint presentation linked to in the Brickworld thread, and mentioned by Benn, ME Models is offering a new plastic rail color - silver plastic rail. Think of it like LEGO pearl silver. (I have some and gave some away at Brickworld) But there is also nothing stopping ME from making blue rails, should there be a market for it. Just sayin'. --Tony Quote
legoman666 Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 They sent me a piece when they fulfilled my backing order. Looks great, but in order to use it I'd have to redo my entire layout. Quote
Boettner Builds Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 That looks REALLY good!!! The silver on the dark brown, about as real rail (look) you can get with all ABS :) Quote
Rail Co Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 Honestly the Blue rails would need to have enough of the AFOL market to be produced because not many people like the blue because it is unrealistic, personally I would buy a few pieces but I wouldn't build my layout with them. The rails do look really good and it may even be possible to use some model rail paint/market to paint the rails on the sides to look rusty. The look great but personally I would like the Metal rails first... -RailCo Quote
southerntrainfan Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 (edited) I also received a sample of one section - single length from ME with my last order of double straights. I agree…this silver rail really is nice looking!! (The pic shows the silver/brown ME design in the middle & one blue-gray ME double length. Their blue-gray matches color to the Lego blue-gray single & curve sections.) I just started building trains last winter, but I want to change my layout over to the silver/brown since I only have so much right now (from my City 60052 Lego set). I emailed ME and asked if it is available for sale because I didn't see it listed. They replied and said it will be posted soon, but they delay for release is because they want to take care of all the kickstarter backers first. Edited June 27, 2015 by southerntrainfan Quote
LeifSpangberg Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 Very nice looking. What a pitty they can't be used to carry 9V... Quote

Younge Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Too bad they don't make their rails in the standard Lego gauge. If they did I would be all over these quicker than Gerard Depardieu all over a chocolate croissant!!! Quote

They just come in different radii and lengths than official Lego track. Quote
Duq Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Too bad they don't make their rails in the standard Lego gauge. The rail profile is close to the old 4.5V/12V rails and visibly different than the 9V/PF rails. The gauge, the distance between the rails, is the same as all normal Lego track. Quote
garethjellis Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 (edited) Has any one had problems with the ME rails warping slightly? I have r88's and if you lay the rail upside down on a flat surface you can see a gap in the center where the rail is not flat. We noticed this at our second to last show with some R72's doing the same. Also one of our members also has the same issue with the long straights. I am interested if any one else is experiencing this. Edited June 29, 2015 by garethjellis Quote

I am interested if any one else is experiencing this. I've only noticed it on the 88. The 104 is fine, as is the 72. Thinking about gluing the pieces down, or hitting them with a heat gun to bend them back flat. Quote

Yeah, the Lego radii is what I meant. I don't have a lot of space for my layout so the ME larger radii really don't work for me. :( Quote

Duq Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 No, they don't. Lego track has a radius of 40 studs. ME Models make R56, R72, R88 and R104. Quote
