shmails Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 SpelunkingG08a by Jonathan Gilbert, on Flickr[/img] ---------- Start Log ---------- Another planet, another desperate search for my goal with little to show for it. This planet looked like it had dried up years ago and nothing lives here anymore. Then, I come over a dune in my buggy and almost fall into a huge hole in the sand. I pulled out my rappelling rope and decided this might be a bit of fun on a boring mission, and look at what I found! Those eggheads were right, the biomass life is overwhelming, it just happens to be hidden underground! --------- End Log --------- SpelunkingG08c by Jonathan Gilbert, on Flickr[/img] SpelunkingG08d by Jonathan Gilbert, on Flickr[/img] more larger photos here:https://www.flickr.c...157653075889606 I had a vision when I read the planet description, and just went for it. Enjoy! Quote
Garmadon Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 Fantastic build, the rock-work is superb and wonderful job on the plants and foliage as well! The desert and vehicle on top look pretty sweet as well! Quote
LittleJohn Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 Amazing build! the rockwork is incredible and I love the different plants Quote
narbilu Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 Absolutely fabulous... Size, technique its got it all Makes me want to resize my build tonight Quote
WickNole Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 All hail Octan CEO! The rock technique is very effective yet quite simple. After I realized it's just SNOT all the way up to the "surface" part -- just WOW! Quote
Dannylonglegs Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 All hail Octan CEO! The rock technique is very effective yet quite simple. After I realized it's just SNOT all the way up to the "surface" part -- just WOW! Yeah, I had a similar idea, but I don't even have that many gray slopes! Excellent build, mate! The gradated slopes works perfectly! I absolutely love everything about this! And the size is just phenomenal Wow! ~Insectoid Aristocrat Quote
Kai NRG Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 This is just beautiful! Love the concept and great work on the execution. That rock is some seriously impressive stuff and the lush vegetation below is great! Really liking the contrast with the sand too! Quote
Jody Meyer Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 Super stunning rock work and the layer effect is awesome, I wish I had this much talent....love the drop effect as well. Brick on. Quote
NuckElBerg Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 Haha, okay, I give up. You executed it way better than me. ;) Beautiful build! Quote
rodiziorobs Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 Wow. Just wow. That is really impressive (even if it is Octan ) Quote
Graham Gidman Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 Yup, that's jaw-dropping and probably the best Andromeda's Gates build yet... Quote
shmails Posted June 3, 2015 Author Posted June 3, 2015 Thanks so much everyone! This was a lot of fun for me, most of the visions I have for building fall short in the end, but this one came pretty close. Glad you all enjoyed it as well! Quote
Zepher Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 What an absolutely stunning build! There's so many good things to take in - the concept is genius and a lot of fun, and the build works to bring it to life. The hole in the desert looks fantastic, and the rock formations are extremely well done, a real sense of the space and I love the way you've got the two layers. Even the way the rock face first recedes, and then surges back forward is a great touch. My two notes: maybe a little wavering in the rock layers - I know they occasionally form in perfectly straight lines, but just a little bit wavier might be better. Also, the ceiling of the rock area is flat - I think a few stalagmites (not many, just a few) might make it more dynamic and in line with the rest of the build. But like I said up top, the build is stunning, and I aspire towards things like this. Damn you, Octan! (Even love the little dune buggy build!) EDIT: And I love the story of your character so far! His excitement over his discoveries along with his reluctance/defeat right before he finds them is fun. Quote
Niloc Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 My first reaction was: "Woooah". I could really feel the depth of this hole and the life that inhabits it. It was grandeur. And if it's not some incredible SNOT work! It's dizzying... Is it built sideway? (as if, if you tilt your head on the right, the stud goes from bottom to top in one direction?). It's hard to figure out. Where did you start? Quote
mccoyed Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Love the great build, of course, but the accompanying narration was funny and cool too. What a great idea for an Explorer build, though. Top marks. Quote
Dardanel Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Amazing :D Where did you get such a long "rope"? : ) Quote
Space Terrapin Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Oh yes. This looks like fun... and a fantastic build. If you don't get the first 6 pointer of the game, I'll eat my breakfast! Quote
Dannylonglegs Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 No need to eat breakfast *shudders*, but Big Sal has already scored the first 6 with his gorgeously furnished Laboratory! That said, I totally agree on your score suggestion. This is a work of art. ~Insectoid Aristocrat Quote
